In over 30 years, I have 'done' five true black horses. None of them had any white on them (I'd not heard that one about letting the devil out). They were all absolute b*st*rds; so much so, I will never willingly have anything to do with another black horse!

I'd agree with this - always thought Ru was classed as brown because of his light bits:
Only one of ours is a non fading black (one of the colts may be too), the rest do get brown highlights during the summer but they are genetically black
