Blair Castle Horse Trials

I’m going too. Been every year since 2010 and camped most of them, had a stand of my own once too - a friend of mine from pony club and I still go together every year and it’s how we stay in touch. Fantastic memories of Blair (to the point we looked at getting married there!), and heart broken it’s over.

Really, really hoping someone takes it over. There will be a big gap in the Scottish calendar not just from an eventing perspective but for showing, showjumping, equine product sales, and general country show perspectives too. And a lot of jobs and local economy loss too.

I hear the entries are absolutely enormous, 300 + in either 80or 90 ht( can’t remember!) not including Championships….the 80cm novice wh, which you can do direct entry to was closed early… forecast not too great.
Am still sad I can’t get there ( oh has gone fishing leaving me with his 8 gundogs)….but we’ve got some great memories, even some rosettes and sashes!

I'm going for the first time! Friday, my friend is competing. Any hints would be hugely appreciated 😊
If you're planning to go for dinner in Perth then Victoria's is great but you need to book a table so do that soon. There's also a really good Italian on the main road I've forgotten they name of. They also need a table booking if you're going to get in.

Other than that, you'll love it, it's hard not to with the amazing competition and incredible scenery.

If it's going to be wet (which it looks like it will) take plenty of spare layers.

How early do people reckon we should get there to beat the traffic? I remember it being awful on the Saturday last year… was thinking going thus, Fri, sat this year

Depends what area you’re coming from. I’m about just under 2 hours away. I normally leave around 7:30/7:45 and I get there for just before 10. It’s usually fine until you hit the last few miles when you come off the A9.

Same when you come back, I try and leave just before offical closing to get a run and out on the A9. You normally find though that it starts backing up just before Perth, that’s probably the worst part on the way home.

Does anyone know what the traffic will be like tomorrow morning? I am going to head up early to walk cross country before my dressage but a few people have said to leave even earlier due to traffic.... I thought it wouldn't have been too bad as Blair doesn't officially start till Thursday, anyone got any idea?

Weds won’t be as bad as later in the week, but I’d give yourself plenty of time if you’re competing as there’s nothing worse than running late.

Top tip, I always take the Pitlochry exit just north of the town with the sign for Faskelly Wood, and then take the back road through Killiecrankie. Means you don’t have the queue for the right hand turn off the A9 at Blair (it’s a left hand exit) and you have priority over the traffic exiting the A9 at the Blair exit as you’re on the main road. Means the only traffic you hit is in Blair Atholl itself.

Were staying in Pitlochry so that’s good to hear.

The instructions for competitors are that you should go up to Bruar and head back to the event from that end so turning off at Pitlochry won't work if you're competing. They try to keep the lorries etc from going through Blair Atholl village.

We arrived this afternoon, it's been a little showery but not too bad. However, the forecast tomorrow isn't good sadly.

Perfect thank you, heading up the now. Dry currently will see how long that lasts.
Good luck if you’re competing!

Is it not on the website? The timetable is usually posted
I've got a timetable, but no running order of the competitors, but it doesn't matter I was just wanting to plan my day a bit around my friend.

Popping the following in a browser brings the timetable up in case its helpful for anyone:
