I'm amazed Scotland haven't banned fireworks just to be different from England yet to be honest.

Heard a few bangs round here but very distant. Horses not bothered. We'll see what tonight brings but I think any near neighbours would have told us if they were having a display. I think.

Mine were fine until last year when our neighbours at the top of the hill had fireworks for the first time.

We had no warning and I'd put the ponies in the paddock nearest their house as it was usually the furthest away away from the fireworks.

The noise was horrific, the ponies were in a terrible state and we had no choice but to risk injuries to ourselves by getting them out of there.

They were very traumatised and I doubt they'll ever be OK with fireworks again sadly.

Spent another 2 hours outside with ponies last night, but at least comforted myself with the thought that it probably be the last until New Years Eve.

Nope.

The neighbours mentioned above have built a bonfire this morning. If the fireworks are anything like the ones they had last year im going to have extremely distressed and frightened ponies.

Actually feel like crying.

I saw a very upsetting post on fb about a poor horse who got a piece of firework in his eye from people setting them off next door to his field. He has had to have it removed ?

We’ve had fireworks here every night from about 5pm. I agree that sale to the general public should be banned.

THIS is why fireworks should be banned from being sold to the public, too many stupid, selfish people out there. So pleassed Mare was calm and not bothered by it but imagine if she had been?

On one of my facebook groups I am in, posted by the owner of the mare

UPDATE! THE SAME PEOPLE SHOT A FIREWORK AT A WOMAN IN WEST KINGSDOWN, POLICE HAVE BEEN CALLED TO CONNECT INCIDENTS
Hi everyone, a
203c.png
HUGE WARNING
203c.png

Today at 2:30pm ish we had a firework shot out of a car at a horse we were driving on Green Street Green, Darenth/Longfield near Dartford, just before the roundabout by the Co Op. We were driving towards the Co Op from Trolling Down Hill.
Two adult men in a dark grey/black Mini Cooper overtook us, then pulled up in front and shot a Star Striker firework towards my friend's mare's head. We were on foot training thankfully so I was able to pull her up as soon as we saw it, so it exploded a few feet away from her.
We were SO lucky, this was the mare's 3rd time out on the roads, this could have been the end of her driving career and possibly her life, all for a bit of fun!
Police are aware and have video footage of the car, so charges will be pressed.

It's so bad this year. Just so many fireworks and all at different times. Again this evening. Our animals seem to have got used to it now. We put OH big spot light on the last 2 nights with lots of haynets around. The light seemed to take the edge of the flashes, but the angs just echoed round the harbour and off the hills. It's gone for nights now. We're exhausted.
I can't remember it ever been like this. When we were kids we had a Bonfire in the back field (away from the animals) with a few Catherine wheels and sparklers. We all had a wonderful time eating jacket potato, treacle toffee and toffee apples.

I've just got back from my two - the neighbours had a short but very loud display that ended with a rocket fired right over my field. How one of them didn't break a leg I have no idea, they were absolutely frantic, and the Welsh was soaked with sweat poor boy. I couldn't even bring them in as my stables are right next to where they were letting them off. I stayed for ages after as the old girl was panting quite a bit and I was quite worried she was going to colic. I'm wrung out, I was so worried about them both.

I had a bit of a debate with someone in our village FB group about fireworks. She has dogs and says hers are not afraid because she spends the other 51 weeks of the year working on desensitising them in preparation for fireworks - she firmly believes that it is on animal owners to prepare their pets. I asked if I should go and make banging noises in the horse field and the chicken coop everyday for 51 weeks of the year and she said something like "yes, you absolutely should, for the welfare of your animals". Erm, what?

I understand that fireworks bring joy to some people but if they would at least limit them to 5th November and NYE and only as organised public displays, it would bring so much relief to both domesticated animals as well as wildlife and people could at least prepare. They have been going on and off for weeks here now and at least the last 4 nights in a row, it is utter madness. Not to mention the littering! One of hens was very distraught because the remnants of a rocket landed in their run!

having animals that can cope with random noises is definitely useful, so in theory I don't object to that concept. it's useful if they don't lose their marbles over a bird scarer, or a noisy vehicle, or stuff like that. but to suggest you should subject all animals to a week + of random fireworks every year is nuts.

i would definitely support reducing it to one night a year. I would also prefer if only organised displays (hopefully well publicised so animal owners could prepare) could buy the noisy ones, if they *had* to stay and the big rockets. the little boxes we used to have in the garden at home only had small fizzy things that were unlikely to cause much distress to anything except the lawn

I'm lucky that both the dog and the horse don't care, noodle used to get freaked out and run and hide in the downstairs toilet when we first got her but I think the fact that Ash was so unbothered helped her get over it, now she just lifts her head at an extra load one to show her displeasure at being woken up. I've just collected the Norwegian buhund (sp??) that I walk and he has a huge patch of fur missing that he ripped out due to being so stressed by them ?

Well in a year that I have seen more stuff than ever on social media about how bad fireworks are and how they should be banned I can honestly say I've never known them so bad, they have been going on for 6 hours and at midnight it was like a war zone. We got noodle 7 years ago and she was afraid of fireworks but she's been fine for the last 5 years (actually sleeps through most of it), but this year I've had to get out of bed to sit with her as she hid in the downstairs toilet dribbling and shaking at the noise at midnight. God only knows what the animals or veterans who struggle normally have been put through!

I left Caterham in Surrey as one of the reasons was anti social behaviour including involving fireworks. It literally was like the Blitz and scared my elderly Mother who lived through the real thing., I also lost poultry due to the noise all hours of the night and day.Customers lost horses too to being so traumatised their horses smashed through fences and were killed. 2 of my dogs were beside themselves with fear. Now here in rural Wales and 6 miles from the nearest town I can honestly say I never heard one last night but I did go to bed before midnight as I have work today so I may have missed them. If I had done that back up in Caterham they would have woken me up.
I feel so sorry for all the animals out there, wild and domesticated that are scared.

Well they started at 4pm yesterday round here and it was continuous and from 10 pm onwards it was a war zone . I opted for sleeping downstairs on a futon next to dog crate where Ripley was in hiding. I’ve just taken her out side now - she managed to cross her legs for 17 hours . Worst NYE ever although I was half expecting it to be.

I agree it was really loud last night! I have a horse on boxrest and went out just after midnight and he wasn’t a happy boy bless him. I stayed until they died down. Up until then there had been a good few but they weren’t too close luckily, but after midnight it really did sound like a war zone! Was also spooky because it was really foggy and I could only just see some of the light from them!

Last night was the worst I have ever known, I'm sure. Random fireworks from about 3.00pm, just about consistent from 6.00-10.00pm, then some kind of apocalypse from 11.45 to 12.45, with fireworks being set off in the middle of the road, the pavements and the large veterinary practice car park (not by the staff I hasten to add!!). I am sure there will be more tonight and over the weekend.

I am so lucky, my little terrier just barks continually at them in absolute fury, but is easily distracted by food. I so so feel for all those people and animals who find them a problem and have no idea why they are on sale to the general public in this day and age. I'm amazed there are not more fires with the wretched things landing just about anywhere.

I honestly thought that moving to the countryside meant that I wouldn't have to deal with the trauma of fireworks any more.

First year I was here it was very quiet but every year since has got worse and worse

Last night was horrific. One of my immediate neighbours (who frankly should know better) set off a couple of massive rockets just before midnight which woke the whole house up. The noise was ridiculous! Then we had fireworks going off all round us for 45 minutes.

Ponies are OK. A few skid marks in the field but they are OK thank God.

I feel sorry for the sheep farmers. All the fields round here are full of ewes in lamb. Last year one of them posted on the local FB page pleading with people not to set off fireworks near his land as he'd had a few ewes abort their lambs the previous year.

Nobody could fail to be aware of the distress, injury and death caused by fireworks but there is a growing number of selfish, self centred people who think only of themselves.

The Christmas fireworks round here began in earnest when. as I knew they would, idiots substituted the jingle of bells at 6 o'clock on Christmas Eve with fireworks. Christmas Day they started at teatime and I don't think there has been a day without them.

Last night was horrendous. Starting late afternoon and continuing until 2.20 this morning.

We must be very lucky indeed. I heard a few bangs when I got the ponies in at 6 pm but nothing after that. We can usually see and hear displays around and about but not too close also just the odd bang from a neighbour presumably for their children. I do hope all your animals are safe and sound.

Started here about 17.45 with random bangs. We would just get the dogs settled when another would go off. Ended up at midnight with two TV's going to maximise noise in the house and still didn't manage to block them out. Finally went to bed at 12.40. Then today I found two still inflated balloons in my field with a note attached requesting to know location they ended up. Had there been a breeze those would have been drifting round the field terrifying both ponies and pregnant sheep. Really not impressed. Will be emailing the idiot who sent them off later. Pictures before and after I burst them, had to take a penknife to them, they do not burst easily. At least if they had done some harm I had a contact, email address with a name.IMG1182A.jpgIMG1184A.jpg

What really angers me are all the hypocrites that put so much passion and energy into bringing about, and encouraging the continuation of, the ban on fox hunting because they're so anti animal cruelty and distress, yet they're happy to participate in in these bleeding world war shows that cause distress, injury and death on a far vaster scale and don't even serve a purpose.

Fireworks were OK when they were about being pretty, now they're all about how much noise they can make. I wish they would get banned.

Please tell me you have all done something more proactive that post on here about it.

There is a postponed parliamentary debate due sometime so the effort to send an email (easy to do) to your MP would be well worth it.
I always ask for a noise restriction - I don’t think they will ban them but quieter ones for private use would be a very good outcome.

We were lucky to have a few hours peace in between the fireworks and the new years day shoot going on next door ? (I just really hope this is instead of the normal shoot tomorrow, not as well as!)

There is a link somewhere to log all firework incidents - it’s only way to get evidence of constant and random use of them throughout year . I’ll try and find it and post link

Christmas Day was bad, last night was a lot worse - I was by a sub-zero stable with my horse who was spinning and crapping at a rate of knots.
Have emailed my MP. I used to be a real fireworks fan, but they are way too loud now. Combine that with people round here who want to put on a professional display in their gardens and that's a lot of bangs and screams.

The replies I receive from my MP never convince me that he has a good grasp of the issue. He will receive further correspondence from me very shortly.

I wrote to my MP and MP from nearby town (who was previously a councillor here), to encourage them to attend the debate on 2 November. I received a reply from both in October, they had clearly used the same template and it was the same old rubbish. Neither attended the debate.

Early 2021 though I don't know the date.
