Blue & White, Black & Blue, Red & a Bit of Green: Shelford Pony Squishing Report

Congratulations on the win :)

Very sad to read your other news, here's to a short clean fight. Chemo affects everyone differently - someone I work with is having it atm, he feels well enough to come into work while he is actually receiving his dose! He hasn't lost any hair - but he did lose some weight.

Thanks dd. Everyone seems to be different so let's hope I'm like your colleague.:)

Fantastic report as ever, topped off with a lovely red ribbon to boot.
I hope you stomp all over the BC in the same fine style that you've demonstrared alreay with lifes other bumps in road.

Wowee - very happy for you and B&W pony's entourage, excellent result. The cancer news is pants (and then some) but Rosie can vouch for the super-effectiveness of HHO vibes and the ether will be buzzing with them during your treatment :)
eta: Not sure you can ride at PNRF as you've completed at too high a level in the past 5 years :( Frodo's rider has same problem (not that he's qualified anyway)

I'm hoping HHO vibes will be listed as a valid complementary therapy for my conventional treatment.;)

I don't know anything about PNRFs as I was greedily planning Novice runs for him for next season.:D

Fantastic report, such good fun to read! Well done on the win!!! You look quite nice on him in that photo, I wouldn't have thought there was any pony squishing going on at all!

Best, best wishes and loads of vibes for a super quick recovery.

Thanks for the good wishes. I think Ralph has grown - or I've shrunk - as others commented on me not looking like I'd borrowed him from a 12yo child.

Well done on your pony squishing! The smile says it all.

Very sorry to hear about your other news, here's to a quick remission and easy recovery

That's why I bought the photo, a reminder of such good times.:D

I'll drink to your sentiments on the other thing, or am I only allowed carrot and spinach smoothies now?

Well done at Shelford, thats a fantastic achievement for his first BE, I'd think the judge had added it up wrong if I ended up with a dressage score like that!

Hope everything goes smoothly with your treatment, my Mum's just coming out of treatment for it and it really hasn't been half as bad as we might have imagined. She's kept working and doing all her normal things all the way through the treatment.

:D I didn't check and assumed their calculators were working ok.

That's good to hear that your mum is coping well.:) I think it could be easy to be all doom and gloom about it and let it take over your life.

That's a great result for Ralph :) So sorry to hear your other news though :(
As other's have said, with the combination of your strength of character and modern medicine you'll have it kicked into touch in no time. I'd like to think Jup will go a bit easier on you in the coming months, but perhaps I shouldn't hold my breath? ;) xx

Hi stranger! Wasn't he a clever pony? ;) I'd hope Jup might cut me some slack but you know what he's like.

I seem to have had a fair few bumps in the road lately but that must be because I've had it easy up until then.:p

Well done B&W pony, what a little star (obviously sucessfully with added bit of green!!!) to gain a bit of red!

What a fab report, but i am sorry to hear your news, but to be honest, the cancer seriously has its work cut out picking on someone as strong as you >;-p

I really hope all goes well for you, the HHO support team will be out in force ;-)) xxx

Thanks SW, whoever said nice things come in small parcels was spot on.:)

I hope I'm as strong as you all think I am, and the support is much appreciated.

Fab report! Sounds like such a dudey little pony :D As for the other all I can say is I wish you all the best, no doubt you'll put up quite a fight :)

I remember reading a series of columns years ago written by Ruth Picardie when she was suffering from terminal cancer. They were very gritty, very astute and very, very funny. Her main bone of contention was that she was on a huge dose of steroids and ended up getting fat - she was gutted as she was 'looking forward' to finally having an opportunity to be stick thin and felt she had been robbed of this! I don't recount it very well, but it had me in stitches.

Hmmmmm, thanks for the positivity and sensitivity of this post. Oh well, I'd rather be fat than dead.

I'd like to clone him, just in a more practical colour.

Thanks, I'm a bit overwhelmed at the thought of it all but it'll just be a project for a year, something to get over and done with so life can get back to normal.

I always enjoy your reports so much-no wonder your horses go so well for you, they seem to have a fab time with you.
As for the other,my husband went through a series of cancer ops and treatment including heavy chemo. He was given a 5% chance.Well,he is still here 8 years later and has been disease free for the last 6 years. He is now discharged from hospital and you would never know he has ever been ill.But goodness does it make you reassess your life and appreciate things you have taken for granted.
Best of luck and my thoughts and paryers are with you.

Aw, thanks Elizabeth - sometimes it feels as if they have more fun with me than I have with them, but overall we're probably quits.

That's fantastic that your husband is well now after so much ****. I couldn't agree more about reassessing your life etc. I know it's early days and a lot of this is hollow as I'm barely into it yet, but I'm sure it will change my perspective massively.

So, I take my soujourn in the sunshine post Aston and this is what you have for me - some fabby prize winning ponies :D - and some less satisfactory news...?! :(

Top work with the ponies, and on the other stuff - I've been the "groom" in this situation before, so feel free to pester with any support team Qs. Hang in there, look after yourself, and you'll be fine. Honest. Promise.

Oh, and to make you laugh I will youtube my Aston XC vid as soon as poss - between you & my sis the commentary is genuinely hilarious :D

A medicinal glass of wine is heading your way X

Fantastic report & fantastic result. A day to treasure!

Cancer news is pants. You sound like such a positive person that I'm sure you'll cope with the treatment & come out the other side smiling.

It will be tough at times - I know from experience but 6 yrs on it is now just an unpleasant memory although the body bears the scars.

It is a strange thing to go though as you generally feel fine before the treatment & what will make you better usually makes you feel rotten for a while.

I can say now with hindsight & a good outcome that there were some positive things that came out of it. An appreciation of all that we have, friends, family, horses etc & living much more in the moment being some of them.

You are at the start of a difficult journey but you will have lots of support to get through it.

One thing I learnt was to allow friends & family to help - it is easy to say "I'm fine" when they ask but somedays you might not be. My advice would be to say when you're having a tough day & to accept help. True friends want to do something/anything to help & to accept that help eases things for you & makes them feel they are supporting you. You don't have to be brave all the time!

All the best & lots of healing vibes xx

It's probably my fault for famously saying "there's never a dull moment in Baydale Land".;) Thanks for the offer of help, I'll pop Jup in the post tomorrow.:D

Look forward to your Aston vids, wine (or probably champers) will be forthcoming once I scrub and get some girly clothes on.....ah, long lunches, just the ticket.:)

Thanks for taking the time to post, juliap. It becomes apparent that it's more common than we think. I'm not too proud to ask for help and people are used to me being grumpy, so they'll hardly notice the difference. I'm generally not that brave anyway, just very good at pretending I am.
