Michen, have you thought of setting up a go fund me? There are clearly a lot of people invested in you and Boggle and if even half the people on this thread gave a small something it could keep Bog stocked in treats!

I know people are not keen to do this if they don't NEED to...but you've had such a crap time of it I know I for one would happily give a small donation to your ice-cream fund and Bogs treats

I think this is it loosely. So I reckon if I can give the sulcrafate with a feed, the barn can do that and I’m just there three times a day for the rest. If vet says no to giving it with feed (I think it’s better not to, but ok) that will be tricky. So my day would look like get there for 6am, faff with him for a couple of hours to do the 8am meds. Then go work from coffee shop maybe until 12pm, then go home for 6 hours until 6pm.

I think. F*** it’s overwhelming. But I’ll figure it out!!

6am- Gastroguard and all once a day/3 times a day drugs ex sulcrafate

8am- sulcrafate

12pm- 3 times a day drugs ex sulcrafate

3pm- sulcrafate (with barn hard feeding?)

6pm- 3 times a day drugs ex sulcrafate

8pm- night check feed- sulcrafate?

That’s so kind and appreciated but just not something I’d do. If you guys are even thinking you’d like to donate then please do so in Bogs honor to a horse charity ❤️❤️

The bills suck I won’t lie but I have the means to pay them. As much as I’m against people go funding me for their animal bills I think for the first time I understand it. Because if I DIDN'T have the way to fund these huge bills, I would probably do it out of sheer desperation.

Thank god I at least am not having to make any financial decisions re Bog and can do this, I am very grateful for that!

He is SO lucky to have you!!

Anyone who had a horse like Boggle would be doing exactly the same.

I’ve said it so many times but he is just not normal. One of the ICU nurses explained it well yesterday, she said he’s the kind of horse you just want to look at forever a) because his face is beautiful and b) because of the way he interacts with and sees the world- so different

Could he have a weekly injection of omeprazole instead of the daily paste? You can do them yourself IM and it would mean you wouldn't need a 6am start.

That’s such a good suggestion I’ll ask!!

To be honest though I reckon two hours of faffing in the morning is about right, I’ll want to walk him and graze him etc. And those things are defo best done early am!

That is a lot of drugs. I am presuming he is also on box rest? Could they do the omeprazole as an injection as then they only need to do it once a week.

Yeah I’m going to ask. But I reckon I’ll want to be there at 6am anyway.

In fact I don’t think I’ve slept past 4am since this happened so my body clock is pretty ready for it!

I've been following this for such a long time but not been on a device that's logged in to reply. I don't have any technical advice, but Michen - you're amazing, Bog is so lucky to have you <3 I'm keeping everything crossed for you both x

You need a MAR chart for those drugs. Ping me your email via PM and I'll zap one over so you can add all the meds and timings and tick off when done. If you print out a few and put in a slippy outside his stable, the barn staff can tick off so you all know where you are.

Thanks guys. Can’t tell you how much relief I get from bouncing ideas off in this thread and all your comments. Somehow it’s easier than talking to people about it in “real life”.

Kinda wondering how long I can stay in this state of anxiety and stress for 🤷‍♀️🙈. Then I look at what’s going on in the news and tell myself to get a grip!

Idk, I live my life in a permanent state of some level of anxiety and stress 🤣

You'll handle it until you can't. Basically. If you can throttle back and read your warning signs, that's better, but sometimes you do have to just power through something until the end, that can be the reality of it.

Ultimately though, do make sure that you take care of yourself. Even in small ways. Then, at the end of these grueling 2 weeks of meds, really treat yourself in some way.

All else fails, sample Colorado's local herbs 😂

But for real, be mindful of how you cope and take some moments to breathe if you can 💜

dunno if its been said but f he was ok at night, then it came on in the night, could he have got cast, rolled up the wall twisted his neck somehow i am wondering, hoping it is a go away thing.

as for money i am sending the money fairy your way, in my thoughts

and i look around and think, how do others cope with what they are living through, i am sure empathy is soothing even it it is not a cure for stress, at least we are not alone !

Ok- loved the barn. Very rustic and ranchy and absolutely not the fancy show barn we are currently at but it would be so much better for him at the moment. Owner is great, so understanding about everything. I have no doubt the care would be top notch (and also have heard good things).

Stable wise there’s the option for a huge big indoor stable in the heated barn. This to me is his best immediate option as it doesn’t have a run, and I’m not sure I’d want him rolling in a run with metal fencing close either side at the moment.

Then there’s a row of what they call sheds (which is what you see in the photo on their website). These all have runs and it’s all open and airy so not heated but, he’s not in the mountains and a closed heated barn post pneumonia probably isn’t great either. Unlike his current barn it’s drenched in sunlight so much warmer all round. And they are kind of in a barn, it’s just like one side is totally cut open if that makes sense.

Turnout isn’t perfect in that they rotate a couple of days in a dry lot/pen like what he has now, a couple of days in a decent size paddock and a couple of days in a huge field. But all fence lines horses can socialize over and he’s got friend options too. The fence lines are metal pipe fencing but with the below bit missing a pipe which is great because I hate that fencing if horses are being silly and kicking out between incase they get a leg stuck (though the runs/shed rows there is that risk).

The whole place was very calm and quiet. No indoor. No steep hills for him to get anywhere. It’s mostly retired horses and just all felt really relaxed.

I think, assuming he improves the next couple of weeks, it’s the perfect place for him at the moment (albeit not me).

Worst part is the drive and also lack of signal which will be tricky with work but I’ll make it work for him.

I have another place to see tomorrow but it’s even further and I think the current flexibility with this place where he can have a normal stable that’s huge, then potentially move to one with a run when he’s more steady, is pretty unbeatable.

Big fenced outdoor arena where they can have a play too.
