Oh gosh, I just had the call from accounting to say we are at 10k. New estimate to get him better, if we can, is 15-20k.

My UK Amex card is saying a hard no to any payment today so I’ll need to ring them about that 🙈

Jesus wept I don't suppose it makes a lot of difference if that's dollars or you've translated that into pounds for us. We can club together to send you a food parcel , Michen, we won't let you starve if you run out of money!

Maybe something to think about, do you know anyone in Kentucky? Or Massachusetts or New York? I don’t have faith in the vets here but I know you want eyes on boggle. Rood and riddle, tufts, or Cornell are options

Ok.. vet called.

Firstly, she absolutely loves Boggle and said he has totally captured her, so Bog is doing what Bog does best and ensuring he has the admiration of everyone around him 🤣 she was so nice about him and said how much she loved his personality multiple times. So that was nice to hear.

His GI is working nicely. He’s hungry and eating.

His lungs aren’t too fluidy. They are arguably slightly worse but it’s marginal.

His viral panels have all come back negative.

Their best guess at the moment is that it is actually pneumonia all along, and just took a while to present.

His feet are still cold.

So whilst the antibiotics don’t seem to be working YET she said in reality it’s been less than 24 hours and it’s hard to remember that sometimes.

I know people out east but also in Colorado. There are great vets in Colorado. Boggle is at a private vet hospital, but one of the best university equine vet hospitals in the country is about two hours up the road. I don’t have any experience with Littleton since we sent everything to CSU (equidistant from Boulder and no Denver traffic faff), however, it’s the sort of place where vets should be just as good.

Sending Bog to MA or NY is probably also not an option.

Haha, that’s very kind!! Dollars but not a huge difference. But what are credit cards for eh.

Needed to lose a bit of weight anyway ;)

Come on, Boggle!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Are you sleeping and earing?? Hugs!

Yeah I’m actually kinda ok, I’m very worried and kind of numb still but this to me is far better than a colic, or subsequent surgery etc. I feel happy that he’s in good hands (a vet from Lexington actually!).

I did consider taking him to CSU but it was a much longer drive and I was already in a state when I was towing him. And much further for me to visit. I have heard it’s a bit cheaper there, but in the grand scheme of things I don’t think it makes that much difference when your bill is inevitably going to be so high anyway.

I don’t have faith in the west coast. Probably me be snobby and you’re right about travel. Just me being me if I was in Michen’s situation I’d be weighing the benefits of getting my horse to the best.

Over the past 10 years, I haven’t been wowed by the vets out west.

I’m not sure that transporting a horse that’s attached to a drip full of tons of drugs and is stood in ice boots 24/7 ANYWHERE is a sensible option at the moment, let alone the respiratory distress of keeping his head tied etc.

But I do appreciate your comments thank you ❤️

Possible a really stupid question….but is there anything to stop him being turned out whilst continuing the antibiotics? Would save money, and you’d think the grazing position would benefit pneumonia?

I will repeat, probably silly and I’m not disagreeing with your vet, just wondering.

I feel so sorry for you both with all of this going on 💕

Probably not but I feel your pain and honestly it’s my worst nightmare being out here. ❤️. I’m pulling for boggle!

I have driven from CO to MA. Twice. It’s 2000 miles. Tbh, not remotely an option.

CO isn’t the west coast, either! Do we look like bloody Californians?

(maybe feeling a bit offended that anyone would think the vet care in my home state, where CSU is one of the best vet schools in the country, is so inferior to Mass or New York that it’s worth the internet bandwidth to suggest sending a very sick horse on an IV drip 2000 miles to Tufts)

He’s hooked up to all sorts of meds, on one of those spinning things. With a machine to dispense it at the right time etc.

He’s eating hay from the floor so same thing re drainage I guess. X

Michen, you're doing great and have Bog right where you need him, with a larger and very reputable hospital (CSU) somewhat nearby if absolutely necessary. I know folks are trying to be helpful with moving suggestions, but honestly, sometimes that just adds more doubt and stress.

Just keep doing what you're doing and we'll all keep sending good vibes to you and Bog. 😊

Shots fiiiiired 🤣🤣

Somewhat off topic but....As someone who grew up in New England and went to school just down the road from Cornell, I don't understand the obsession with either hospital. Dozens of other hospitals/institutions belong in the same conversation when it comes to their ability to treat horses, and based on the opinions of my Lexington vet friends, CSU is certainly one of them.

It’s been 30 years since I was there, but CSU is/was one of the best veterinary facilities anywhere, and Ft Collins one of the best research places.

FWIW the horse I brought back to Ireland from the States (I bred him in Colorado) on the opposite journey developed pneumonia and recovered, so try not to despair.

Now feeling dumb for not taking him there 🙈 but Littleton we’re the attending emergency vet, and they have their own (very well recommended) hospital.

It’s also a two hour drive from his barn and I was not in a great state when deciding to take him in.

I wonder if you know the vet who’s looking after him now, she’s from Lexington.

Also laughing because I see a growing number of bumper stickers here that say “get your California out of my Colorado” 🤣🤣

I also grew up (somewhat) in New England. How do we not all know each other 🤣 interesting that we (myself, you, and CI) all passed through there at one point. I was primarily in MA/NH and popped into upstate NY here and there.

To be fair, I've spent half of my life in the USA and half in Europe, so there's that.

You're not dumb! Don't feel dumb! I think he is just fine where he is, and your reasoning for going there (where he is now) is quite sound! Shh. Don't make me drive over there, I have a long weekend 🤣

Again not really relevant as it was a generation ago, but my local vet practice was Littleton.

That’s a bloody great idea. You drive over, I’ll bugger off diving (my flight leaves in 14 hours- can you get here in time?) and when I return you can hand me back a shiny recovered Boggle 🤣
