Huge hugs for you
Oh gosh, I just had the call from accounting to say we are at 10k. New estimate to get him better, if we can, is 15-20k.
My UK Amex card is saying a hard no to any payment today so I’ll need to ring them about that
Maybe something to think about, do you know anyone in Kentucky? Or Massachusetts or New York? I don’t have faith in the vets here but I know you want eyes on boggle. Rood and riddle, tufts, or Cornell are optionsJesus wept I don't suppose it makes a lot of difference if that's dollars or you've translated that into pounds for us. We can club together to send you a food parcel , Michen, we won't let you starve if you run out of money!

Come on, Boggle!!!
Are you sleeping and earing?? Hugs!
I don’t have faith in the west coast. Probably me be snobby and you’re right about travel. Just me being me if I was in Michen’s situation I’d be weighing the benefits of getting my horse to the best.I know people out east but also in Colorado. There are great vets in Colorado. Boggle is at a private vet hospital, but one of the best university equine vet hospitals in the country is about two hours up the road. I don’t have any experience with Littleton since we sent everything to CSU (equidistant from Boulder and no Denver traffic faff), however, it’s the sort of place where vets should be just as good.
Sending Bog to MA or NY is probably also not an option.

Probably not but I feel your pain and honestly it’s my worst nightmare being out here. . I’m pulling for boggle!I’m not sure that transporting a horse that’s attached to a drip full of tons of drugs and is stood in ice boots 24/7 ANYWHERE is a sensible option at the moment, let alone the respiratory distress of keeping his head tied etc.
But I do appreciate your comments thank you
Do we look like bloody Californians?
Well since I’m in California . Like I said it’s a bias I own.I have driven from CO to MA. Twice. It’s 2000 miles. Tbh, not remotely an option.
CO isn’t the west coast, either! Do we look like bloody Californians?
(maybe feeling a bit offended that anyone would think the vet care in my home state, where CSU is one of the best vet schools in the country, is so inferior to Mass or New York that it’s worth the internet bandwidth to suggest sending a very sick horse on an IV drip 2000 miles to Tufts)
Possible a really stupid question….but is there anything to stop him being turned out whilst continuing the antibiotics? Would save money, and you’d think the grazing position would benefit pneumonia?
I will repeat, probably silly and I’m not disagreeing with your vet, just wondering.
I feel so sorry for you both with all of this going on

Somewhat off topic but....As someone who grew up in New England and went to school just down the road from Cornell, I don't understand the obsession with either hospital. Dozens of other hospitals/institutions belong in the same conversation when it comes to their ability to treat horses, and based on the opinions of my Lexington vet friends, CSU is certainly one of them.

Now feeling dumb for not taking him there but Littleton we’re the attending emergency vet, and they have their own (very well recommended) hospital.
It’s also a two hour drive from his barn and I was not in a great state when deciding to take him in.
Again not really relevant as it was a generation ago, but my local vet practice was Littleton. Now feeling dumb for not taking him there but Littleton we’re the attending emergency vet, and they have their own (very well recommended) hospital.

You're not dumb! Don't feel dumb! I think he is just fine where he is, and your reasoning for going there (where he is now) is quite sound! Shh. Don't make me drive over there, I have a long weekend
That’s a bloody great idea. You drive over, I’ll bugger off diving (my flight leaves in 14 hours- can you get here in time?) and when I return you can hand me back a shiny recovered Boggle
