Boggle- USA bound!

Don't tempt me. I'm really missing Atlas' mini friend, such a character. Couldn't really catch him, a total rascal. I was offered to take him with me and so tempted but he's just not suitable for a boarding situation as hard to catch etc and that just doesn't work in a busy set up!

If/when we get some land, I'll hopefully get him back :)

That black and white is GORGEOUS!

Or, and hear me out here... get him small black and white miniature horse?

Such great news, Atlas is 99% sound! A couple of slightly off steps on a hard circle that he trotted out quick, on the fore that wasn’t even the most problematic.

I will continue with stall and run rest but get him moving now and hopefully some trot work so that he’s strengthened up before turnout. Probably another 3/4 weeks or so all being well. Thrilled he came so sound so quick from proper rest, I hope that means that whatever it is isn’t too serious and the vet was really pleased.

I guess I’ll have to run alongside him and do his trot work in hand because I’m sure as heck not riding a barely broken horse that’s not been turned out or ever trotted under saddle to do it 🤣

Awaiting his blood results and then we will be on our way to California if those are good. Better late than never!

Pretty rural but our nearest town 10/15 mins away is Fairfax in Marin County. North of SF across the bridge and it's very beautiful, lots of redwoods!
Beautiful area. Best friend lived in Tiburon then Novato for 30 years; now in France.
Point Reyes Cabalin store is really cool for horse stuff and the riding around there is excellent if you're missing the saddle.

I will definitely go check that out, thank you!! It really is beautiful. I'm not sure it equals Colorado in that sense, but it's a different kind of beauty.

Don’t forget we need lots of pictures when you are there , it’s nice to see Atlas and Pepper but I love the scenery pics, it’s so spacious compared with the UK
yes, it is so easy to just see the horrible bits of America that is shown in the news and forget that there are many, many lovely areas, and lovely Americans!

There will be plenty of photos I promise! We are also hoping to add a springer spaniel puppy to the mix early next year, fingers crossed (and thank you to Druid for the intro to a great breeder!). Though I really want a wire haired daschund but my OH is not keen :D Wildlife wise, I think the same ish as Colorado bar moose, not sure on the elk.

The landscape is very different, if you look up Marin County that's where we are heading. Everything from dramatic coastline and beaches to redwood forests to soft grassy open hills.

I'm so excited to have a house again! We've been living out of suitcases for 7 weeks now. Can't wait to unpack and have some normality and routine again and a slower pace of life.

There truly are. I know it sounds like the worst place on earth to live from the news and I do have to bury my head in the sand about it a lot of the time but the people I am surrounded by couldn't be further from what you read about. And of course, California is an extremely liberal state.

Great bloods so we left! We have arrived at our first stop just south of Salt Lake City. 10 hour drive with stops! Tomorrow we will stop in Reno Nevada and Sunday we get to California. He travelled great and drank a lot on arrival!

Atlas will miss Dusty. Here is the scenery at our Utah stop!

Thank you!! Don’t be fooled by his adorable face. He has a lot of opinions and attitude 🤣

But he’s generally being very tolerant and good natured about everything and it’s a lot to ask a horse that’s been on near total stall rest to then spend 10 hours in a trailer for two days plus another 5 today. But we are nearly there!

Here he is arrived in Fernly Nevada. We found a great Italian in the middle of nowhere where for pizza and wine with Pepper and my OH (who’s been driving behind with car and dog!). The scenery was so crazy… driving across the desert of Nevada.

It’s 6am here and today is the final push. Atlas is currently squeaking and bucking around his pen so he seems on board with some more adventures 🤣

Yesss sorry! Will do a full update with pics.

In the mean time, why do I have the only horse who sees this as a challenge. Tilt his thick head to one side to get it through the bars in order to access things. Including his neighbor.

Literally no other horses in a 60 horse barn are doing this. 🙈🙈🙈

Yes! We are basically living in a tree house.

I don’t have any decent photos but here’s a few. And of course we aren’t really unpacked properly yet so everything’s a bit sparse!

The barn Atlas is at is 4 mins away and not fancy and "show barn" like, it's very well run and down to earth and I like it because he has an airy open stall situation as you can see plus I am paying double board- ouch- to also have spot for him in the 24 hour “pasture” (dry lot in a herd) as otherwise it’s a small limited time turnout type situation for the stall/run horses. I didn’t want him out 24/7 as they are fed hay at certain times rather than free fed which would correlate a lot with when I’d be taking him out to do things with and I didn’t want him to be consistently missing meals. I’ve been watching the herd and they all seem very chilled and I haven’t seen any hay bickering which is great. He will go out there once he’s done a bit more walk and trot to prove his soundness.

These are the redwoods around here.

Very pretty!
