Burghley thread

Is it just me or did anyone else think there were more “stallions” competing this year?
I did wonder if their gender had been wrongly given by the FEI….
It happened to me one year I was acting as stable manager at an International event and was concerned how I was going to manage the stabling plan given how many stallions were entered….rang riders to be told no it’s a gelding! Wiped brow with relief….

it jumped very well for any horse still with a ping in them, the time was moderately hard to get. Et Hop du Matz had a moment halfway through the triple which could have been a stop but ended up being just two down.

Oh rats, is the morning jumping session not up yet? Was just about to settle down and watch it.

ETA rewound the live coverage to about - 2 hrs 9 mins and the start of the morning SJ is there 🙂

ETA2 morning SJ is now up as a separate standalone listing lasting about 35 minutes.

Selina’s horse was head bobbing in the early trot work in the dressage 😬, I commented on it at the time.

Carl was in the commentary box at the time, there was much talk of ‘irregularity’ of paces and he said that the judges have to decide early in the test whether to ring the bell or to allow the partnership to continue. He didn’t say whether he’d have rung the bell, but he certainly noticed the ‘irregular’ steps.

ETA to clarify - Selina Milnes and Gelmar

They were mad to run the horse cross country let’s hope it’s not career ending as a result .

Selinas didn’t look great when it finished XC…

Selina's was withdrawn overnight; Sam Lissington's posted about her horse who was pulled up on xc course

It felt like there were a lot of mares this year, which is nice. I’m a bit of a mare fan.

Was a bit reluctant to join Burghley TV a few years ago, but I’m so glad that I have it! Very useful and way better than the BBC coverage (which is such a shame!)

I agree. I grumbled about it, but it’s been superb coverage. My only criticism is it’s hard to get to where you want to be if you need to rewind/fast forward. I wish it had times rather than how far into the coverage it was. Or could be broken down into shorter sessions like they used do.
