Can you dressage on a shoe string?

I think scores must be different in the UK (was wondering how the percentages were so high), and of course I was also competing a good few years ago, and on another continent :-)

When I first did anything affiliated, I was happy to get sixty and a point. These days, at Novice or below,, I'd have to get seventy to feel any sense of satisfaction. I managed that once eventing, and then twice on a dressage bred horse I bought, before he got sick, and I still didn't win either competion or lead the eventing dressage!

Standards have just risen and risen in the last thirty years.
