CDJ withdrawn from paris

I know this thread started about CDJ but I think dressage is slowly improving, my horse (no longer here) used to piaffe at the gate when she was waiting to come in and regularly passaged round the field, also would do pirouettes if she was feeling lively, none of these movements were taught by me or her previous owner. When ridden she would do these movements if she was excited so the movements in the tests are not alien to them. I’ve just seen this monstrosity on a post about show jumping which doesn’t seem to have any controls at all .
OMG that is absolutely dreadful. How could anyone put that on a horse!!

I think that generally with the concentration face, you don't get the wild-eyed, clenched jaw panicky look. They seem to have a more "Oooo, this is HARD" frowny face, rather that "I hate my life, when is this ever going to end?" stress face. The position and movement of the ears is also different.

I agree, and for me, this is the difference between positive and negative tension. Positive tension is concentration and/or effort, and it can cause a bit of a frowny face, passage is both physically and mentally hard for a horse, certainly until they gain more physical strength and mental confidence and understanding, and so some positive tension occurs. Whereas I think negative tension is a very different thing, its the result of pain/discomfort, anxiety, stress, becoming trigger stacked, etc, etc and we should everything in our power to not let it occur.

My Spanish horses all have/had the same concentration face. Ears turned back, but not pinned, and just rather serious looking. Usually when both ears were forward it was because they weren't paying attention to me/what we were doing and were about to spook/be distracted 🙃

Forward ears locking onto a jump is also a type of focus though, so ears forward aren't always unfocused. I just know that on my recent young one, it meant possible shenanigans if I didn't regain his attention 😂

So true, ears are very individual to the horse, I have one horse whose ears are up and forward 90% of the time, its just him, but I have others who have ears out sideways as a happy place, and up and forward means trouble ahead! Its just a vague guide really, its all about the individual, you have to look at everything, ears alone are unreliable.

Parra full report out. Warning - some distressing details.

Metal under nosebands ffs.

Some of em don't learn, they go backwards, they start off with aspirations dreams, and learn nothing from horses, who can be the greatest teachers

If it was isolated they wouldn't need to do it at all, they would have advanced in skills and found better ways

15 years suspension? What a joke. Should be a life ban and criminal charges just for the horse he permanently damaged.

Back to the old "isolated incidents" again, too. When you've been training horses for as long as Parra, there shouldn't be any incidents that look like cruelty to other experienced people.
He should be suspended alright, from a rope.

The fact that the details are so awful and upset me when I read the H&H article 'cold' was why when I posted the link here I gave a warning.

He should not only be banned for life but his bank accounts and assets should be seized and given over to appropriate USA equine welfare charities.

We can't now relieve the suffering of the horses he abused but I'd like to see him forced to fund equine welfare in some way to reduce the suffering of other equines in the USA. I know it will never happen but to me that would be some form of 'justice'.

What I found horribly sad and upsetting was that they said that the same horses appeared 'over and over' again being systematically abused. Given the evidence spanned several years, I just can't contemplate what those poor horses went through :-( How this vile person got away with this for so long just beggars belief

Am I alone in thinking the email I received today from H&C is a bit... Distasteful?

Blergh. She is no longer the golden girl, people.

I am not entirely sure of their motives.

Is 'money' a little too obvious and cynical? It certainly doesn't seem to be 'improving welfare'.

In addition to promoting their exclusive coverage to generate money, I actually wonder if some sort of CDJ 'brand' advertising deal has been struck between her management and H&C...

Maybe or it could be simply that a lot of people want to comment. I think that helps their revenue.
