I very much doubt it’s anymore than the stewards asking Paul what happened which they always do if a well fancied horse pulls up. I would be amazed if they said the horse should have continued regardless.

It’s not on the stewards report but Gamebird is there and would know what happened. I expect he was called in to explain what happened.

He really does. I'm a bay fan myself so plenty there for me to drool over but there's something about Grey Dawning that makes me think wow.

ETA - Yes, Hewick is being saved for the GN they said.

I love a grey, although mine always seem to be tinged pink. My first pony, as a kid, was called Dawn, and grey so I have a soft spot for this one. How they get his tail so clean though...
