Black Jacks and Fruit salads were lovely and I also like Aniseed Balls.
We had a tuck shop at school so we could buy whatever we wanted from there with pocket money but I had to be careful not to spend too much as it was also my dinner money.

I can remember vividly going into a corner shop and the bloke behind the counter was a heavy pipe smoker and of course in the 70's you could smoke in shops. I wanted a Dib Dab so Dad bought one for me but when I got home and opened it I complained to Dad that it tasted 'really funny' so Dad had a taste and said it was tainted by the pipe tobacco.

Mum and Dad also gave me pocket money for the ice cream van, I used to think I was really 'hard' in my early teens having Cider or Brandy flavoured ice lollies. We heard the chimes some time after dinner and all the kids would run over shouting "Mr Whippy, Mr Whippy". I used to mainly buy Tudor Crisps as they used to have a 'medal' in them and I used to try and collect the set. Spicy sausage and Hedgehog flavour were my favourites (no hedgehogs harmed in the making of this fabby flavour a cross between beef and pepper)

Our Ice Cream Van Man (Mr Whippy) would tear off cardboard from the crisp packet boxes and skim them along the top of the ice cream dispenser giving us a real hit of vanilla creamy foam.

"Mr Whippy please may we have some fluff" was a popular request! Poor bloke spent more time dishing out freebies of 'fluff' than he did ice creams and actually making any money!!

Sorry I seem to have gone off on another tangent. Happy memories.1661412096039.png

Frys Five Centres, apparently. I thought it was more fancy than that:D

Five Boys? Think there were five boy's faces each with a different expression.
Bags of cream soda and kayli, with a stick of liquorish to dip in.
Flying saucers, Black Jacks, Bazooka Joe bubble gum with the paper insert detailing all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff you could buy if you saved enough tokens. The penny counter where various items all costing 1d could go in the pick and mix bag.

Thank you for posting this!! I was trying to tell my OH about 5 variety Fry's the other day and I think he thought I was losing my mind.

My favourite sweets were the penny and ha'penny sweets behind the counter at local post office - couldn't even tell you what they were now but I looked forward to shopping day ☺️

Ooh Bourneville Selection. Not sure if this was sold throughout the country or only in the Midlands conurbations because Bourneville is an area in Birmingham where the Cadbury's factory is. It was a selection box in a bright red box and I used to love the bitter lemon, it was a stick shape.

Where I lived as a child you could smell the chocolate from Bourneville, depending on which way the wind was blowing.
