I was told many years ago that travellers eat hedgehogs. Apparently they pack them with clay and put them in the fire. Once cooked the spines fall out with the clay. I'd like to think no-one eats hedgehog these days.

Not so far, although if the cost of living goes on rising, I may well need to so thanks for the cooking tip?

Sorry I haven’t read the whole thread.

My grandmother had a sweet shop in her front room.

Mum remembers having to let her tea get cold to go and serve someone with a farthings worth of sweets.

Grandmother also sold home made ice cream and had the ice delivered in large blocks.

Not surprisingly Mum had a sweet tooth and loved, as do I, shrimps. flying saucers, aniseed twist, marshmallows and many others.

Although she always said the new stuff never tasted as good.

Farthing ?. That was before my time even !! I bet half the people on this forum struggle to remember the half pence ?, let alone a halfpenny...

I have a vague memory of being at the seaside with Mum, Aunt and cousin and being given an ice lolly that was in a sort of paper bag. That must have been home made by the vendor (60+ years ago sadly?)

Flying saucers and a sherbert dip (Bassets?) in a yellow tube with a stick of liquorice.

Refreshers, Spangles and Tic Tocs ( Who put the chocolate in the mint, the mint ...)

Mum was born in 1923 so I suppose it would have been in the middle to late’20’s / early ’30’s

I bought some licorice allsorts yesterday, after thinking about sweets and sherbet dibdabs. Ate a couple and thought they weren't very good or like I remembered and guess what? They DON'T HAVE LICORICE IN THEM.
Checking ingredients it's just licorice flavouring.
So disappointed and cheated.
Lovely son did send some proper Turkish Delight selection as a treat. last month, so will have to put him onto it.

I was going to ask if no one else remembers Caramac

But does nobody else miss Terry’s Chicolate Lemon?

Boxes of Neapolitans?

And Tudor Roast Lamb and Mint Sauce crisps

When my parents first married, Mum was the nurse at Cadbury’s factory. They were allowed to eat all they wanted because they soon grew bored of it.

As a special treat my grandad used to buy me Callard & Bowser Nougat. I remember nibbling off the rice paper they were wrapped in.
Omg I have never come across anyone else who remembers this!! It was a real favourite when I was little. I used to get a box every Christmas, they seems so special wrapped in silver paper. I’m so sad they stopped making it.
