hello,

a good friend of mine has asked to borrow my clippers, i am considering it but am a little reluctant because of the cost of them (cost £250 last year) and also the cost of servicing and blade sharping. would it be reasonable to ask her a small fee to use them fir her 2 horses if yes how much? or am i being completely unreasonable?

I would just ask her to return the blades to you freshly sharpened, although me being a soft touch would (and have done) just let my friends use them without paying anything towards them. If I was worried about my friend damaging them I would probably clip her horses for her.

I used to lend my clippers out for the cost of sharpening the blades. However I'm afraid I found that people weren't always as careful with them as I am and I now prefer to clip the horse for the person rather than lend them out!

I'd try to get out of lending them, its sods law they will comeback dirty, broken or something and if you lend them this time she will no doubt ask again. If you feel you have to lend them to her then definately ask for the blades to be resharpenned. Failing that say you will clip the horses for a small fee. Its hard though when its friends.

thanks i think i'll say to her i'll clip them for her, they are just too expensive to replace if she breaks the, i do trust her but accidents happen and if i break them then its my fault and it won't make tension in our friendship

My two best friends have asked me for the use of my clippers, one has used them but brought her own blades, but I know if anything happened she would pay to replace them, the other friend has asked me to clip her three ponies for £20 each which is fine by me!

When it comes to clippers my motto is "Never a Lender nor a Borrower be" I learnt that the hard way when a brand new pair of clippers I had lent to a friend flew across the barn and smashed against a wall. Never again.

Having loaned mine out to find they came back stuffed with horse hair,
