Comp report (with pics)- I am such a numpty!

Took Andy to Summerhouse today for a bit of jumping had a good/ bad day what ever way you want to look at it.
First of all I am going to register him BS tonight as I cannot bare to jump another unaff with all the kids on the ponies that have no respect in the warm up!
We had a lovely warm up, half of the arena was cut off as their expanding so the already small arena was even smaller :eek::eek: but he went lovely and jumped the practice fenced very nicely at the speed I wanted to go :)

So got in the arena we entered the 85cm, wanted to do the 90cm but got there early so just did the 85, which he jumped amazingly! He didn't look at any of teh fillers, didn't nap one bit and just flew around the course. I wasn't even trying to get a fast round because with 40 odd people in the class I didn't see the point.
But I finish to find I had jumped the wrong fence!! Basically the last fence was two jumps side by side, both the exact same height and the one I jumped wasn't sectioned off so silly me got them confused and did the wrong one :(
Then we find that we would have come 4th or 5th! But, I had a nice round which has given me a bit of confidence in him.
Went to book in for the 90cm and they were full up so we decided to head home.

I really hate my position so any tips to help this.
Also going to have a nose at the proffesional pictures once he uploads them :)
 
haha how many times have I done that? even been known to jump a spread backwards...at least you won't do it again though ;) and your position is okay, you've got nice hands which is most important :) well done xx
 
I'm sorry but i don't think you should be out competing him when he looks incredibly poor, he looks scrawny and weak , I can't imagine its doing him any good at all to be out and about putting stress on his muscles when he looks so under developed, sorry but that's just my honest opinion.
 
I sympathise with your navigation problems as I did a very similar thing today and eliminated myself - glad to see you are bonding well with your new boy :)
 
Well done fences are easy to get wrong didnt think I would remember the course on saturday :o
as for the position my instructor tells me to feel like I am pushing my heel out the front (although obviously it dosent look like that when you do it) and I love the picture of him looking in to the car
 
Thanks everyone, I do feel very silly but atleast I got to finish the course before the judges noticed :p

stroppy- I think that is your opinion, he wouldn't have done it if he wasn't up to it, and he was happy as you can see from the pictures so I think its perfectly fine to be jumping him. Its not like we were jumping anything big either and he's well up to fitness didn't break a sweat.

Clannad48- I got it yesterday, give it a week and it will be brown :D

Lovely pictures of him jumping, looks as if he is really enjoying himself. You've bonded together in such a short time. :)
 
Remember that Ellen Whitaker jumped the wrong course at Olympia!

However I have to agree, horse is very thin and undermuscled. How old is he? He clearly is enjoying himself but perhaps wait a little before you do more with him and get his condition a bit better and he will go even better for you :)

I think he will definatly be better when he's got more condition but I also think he's fine to be jumped now or he wouldn't do it and found it easy, if I felt he struggled I would stop.

He does love his jumping bless him, sometimes a bit too much :rolleyes: I really feel I have bonded with him aswell :)

Thats a maybe but you don't know what damage could be being done to his musco - skeletal system, Just because a horse seems happy and willing does not mean everything is ok on the inside, if your not jumping 'anything big' then an unfit cilpped horse would not sweat either.

Im afraid i totally agree with stroppy. This horse is skinny and looks very poor I would be embarrassed to put pictures up if my horse looked like this. Call me harsh but this horse is far too skinny!

Wow this is really harsh. There are nicer ways of putting it. Stroppy put it in a nice way and this just seems a little uncalled for
 
The OP is aware of his condition which is why she asked about it on another thread.

This thread is about her competing, so comment on that. Comment on condition on the condition thread.

Koko - I hope the condition comments haven't put a downer on your happiness from the competition :D:D

Sorry but I have to agree. The fact he will do it anyway could just show how genuine he is.
If you give him a few easy months he will put the weight on easier as he wont be burning it all back off again.
 
You'll always get some who like to see fat horses so I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm right in thinking he's sway-backed anyways? It always make them look far worse they they actually are. He lacks muscle but I don't think he's particularly thin: he's actually got quite a decent neck on him for a poor-doing TB coming out of winter.

He looks like he's really enjoying himself, more than up to the work your asking of him and you look like you're having a ball too! :D
 
Just a thought..... a horse that is honest will do whatever you ask of it until one day it all goes wrong ... i speak through experience :( !! you look like you had fun and i am sure he loves jumping (as did mine if they like jumping they will do it whatever condition they are until its too late to prevent rather than treat) however its important to be careful as when horses arent in as good condition as they could be the amount of added stress put on joints and muscles(or lack of) can have serious longterm affects .... Please dont feel I am being rude i just know what its like to have a horse go wrong when they were going so well I actuall cried when i found out what damage had been caused and how she never showed a sign the whole time !
 
Well done - he looks like he's really enjoying himself! :D Shame about the last fence though.
I understand you're concerned about his weight and are currently increasing his feed to help him gain it slowly.
In my opinion, however, I wouldn't be doing many competitions whilst he needs the extra weight/condition. :)

^^ Afraid I have to agree. Although your horse does look like it enjoys jumping, it doesn't look good condition.
 
Kallibear, I don't like fat horses, as being fat does as much if not more damage as being under weight, but there is a BIG difference between Fit and Lean horses and skinny under weight horses, Andy seem's to me to be on the verge of the latter, nothing a bit of TlC and good management can't sort out.
 
Thanks guys who have put it in a nice way. Like I said in previous threads I am building him up slowly I'm not all of a sudden going to give him a huge bucket of food and give him colic.

I don't compete often I only did this to see where we are if you see what I mean. Until he is built up more I am doing dressage comps or PC rallies.

When you actually see him in person he doesn't look that bad either, pictures can be decieving. Yes he is genuine, but he won't jump if he couldn't I know because when he had a bad fitting saddle he wouldn't jump.
Now please stop jumping down my throat- lesson learnt don't jump him.
 
Glad things went well, and I know how you feel about the kids on their ponies! Dare I say it, but he seems from your posts to enjoy SJ more than dressage!

Good luck with the condition putting on, and look forward to your spring/summer posts with you two winning everything!
 
Spring is just round the corner and good old Dr Green will do little Andy the world of good as will the new feeding program you are getting together for him to gain condition.

You know to take it easy with him for now so I'm not going to offer you anymore advice there ;)

He looks like he loves his jumping. You've got a little cracker there.

Best of luck getting condition on! And we can only go by what we see
I dont think anyone was trying to be rude and jump down your throat! I think its just a subject close to alot of peoples hearts time is of the essence and all that! And also another thing to remember is it may not hurt now but it can sometimes take a while to come out I think people have seen read and heard of horses being ruined from people who dont stop and think (in no way am i suggesting you are one of them) I am just trying to say i dont think anybody means to be rude and you know your horse best!
I hope I havent offended you in anyway because that is not my intent
