On Sunday, Jake, my Springer, was very wobbly on his back legs. I could see something was wrong through his back so took him to the Vet as soon as I could on Monday morning. We were referred immediately to the RVC to see a neurologist. The neurologist was convinced it was a slipped disc and said 80% of cases are easily cured. I left him there for an MRI.

2 hours later, the neurologist phoned to say not good news, there are 3 tumours on his spine and one in his abdomen. The tumours on his spine were causing the back legs to lose all control. He said we could try steroids and that might give him a few more weeks to live. We very quickly decided not to put him through cage rest and pain again after 2 cruciate repairs and phoned our usual vet yesterday to come and PTS our little lad this morning. I'm so shocked as one minute he was fine, the next, he's been given a death sentence.

It was peaceful, his brother sniffed him after his heart stopped and the vet took him away for us. I didn't want him being maggot food in the garden. He was 7 and the best dog ever.

Im so sorry, he looks absolutely stunning. I had a similar thing earlier this year, 1 day Sophie spangle was right as rain, within 10 days I had made the decision to pts. Like Jake, she did not suffer and I refused to put her through treatment that at best would prolong her life a little. Absolutely heartbreaking for you but in time you will take comfort from making the right decision for him, and from your memories. Take care x

I'm so sorry to hear this but you did absolutely the right thing for him and you gave him 7 wonderful years. Big (((((hugs))))) to you

I'm so sorry. I lost a dog to cancer that came out the blue. I thought he had a broken leg but sadly it was more than that.

Jake looks a superstar.

Heart goes out to you. Exactly the same situation with our greyhound 3 years ago. Still hurts and still wonder if I did the right thing though I know in my heart that I did. Our vet was wonderful trying to reassure me. The extra time surgery would have given her, would been spent recovering from operation, so no life for her. x

lost my previous dog very suddenly, the shock and grief is tremendous. you have my sympathy and huge hugs to you. he looks like he was a lovely chap

I'm in tears. What an awful shock.
((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

So sad to lose him unexpectantly like that. You did the right thing for him.

Lovely photo of him, we were only admiring the other day when you posted it.

Sweet dreams Jake x

i'm so sorry, i lost 2 of mine, 1 was poisined about 8 yrs ago. if i every find out who done it argh. my other took a fit at age 17 and had to be put to sleep as he would come out of it. i never cried as much. i know how you feel, but its worse when people ask you about it, makes you feel worse. this is a good way to talk it through.
