Today I took Snoop over to Nigel Taylors for a last minute jump before our BE debute.
Feeling slightly better about our dressage after yesterday I planned to put snoop over a course of fences and hopefully Nige would let me walk through the water jump at the end.
Slightly unsure of how he may behave i gave him a scoop of his new calmer (its only to be used before stressy situations/comps not fed daily like most).
So after taking winston out this morning i popped some powder in snoops bowl and gave him a handful of feed.
3 hours later arrive back at the yard and load up, snoop was far more settled and mum popped the rope behind him and he walked straight in YAY no rearing!!!
We arrive with plenty of time, tack up and hope on, little pig decides he would try his napping, but didnt amount to much and walked to the arena where Nigel was riding a horse.
Nige sent me down to the xc course so he could finish off with jumping the horse he was riding and so i could go and warm up, and take snoop chops through the water then come back and have my jumping lesson in the main arena.
Great, although snoop had other ideas and literally stamped and stormed both feet down, nigel looking over saying *god hes an argumentative so and so*
We eventually make it past the arena, and going towards the gallops but he really did try it on, although it wasnt rearing it was just throwing his front hooves out in temper!
This continued all the way down to nearly the xc course, but i wasnt giving in.
Then I think he had a light bulb moment as all the naughtyness went and he cantered around in the xc field like he knew what he was at.
Straight through the water, no hesitation YAY straight over the rails, over the ditch and trakehner through the water and up over the house YAY my boy was a star.
So walking back to the arena and it was back SJing.
Warmed up over a wall filler thing lol yes i know! gone are the days ppl use x poles lol
Then up over another and round over a descent one strided treble across the diagnal.
Snoopy answered every call, he really was operating today
Nigel really helped me sort out my hands and got me thinking of half halting sooner rather than later.
I was beginning to get the idea lol YAY light bulb moment for me lol
We got some smashing spots but we had the fence down because snoopy is actually waiting for ME to back him off the fence, but now with this new method hes having to do it himself.
We flew the water tray oxer, the fences were getting bigger and finish around doing a course of 1.10m YAY.
I was so thrilled with him.
For the first time today, snoopy settled and wasnt running on adrenaline, he got tired so we finished and i took him all the way back to the water again to walk in and out and hack back. He did it without having a nap!! RESULT!
He tied up to the lorry, not a peep out of him washed him off and bless him he was as quite as a mouse.
Loaded him up, he walked with no hesitation and mum wasnt even there with the rope, what a good boy!
Those who think i may have killed my horse, he cantered off across the field to join Winston and Bert, so i dont think he was that exhausted.
So tomorrow is FLATWORK and hopefully then we will be ready for wednesday.....
Thanks for reading.
