Today I took Snoop over to Nigel Taylors for a last minute jump before our BE debute.
Feeling slightly better about our dressage after yesterday I planned to put snoop over a course of fences and hopefully Nige would let me walk through the water jump at the end.

Slightly unsure of how he may behave i gave him a scoop of his new calmer (its only to be used before stressy situations/comps not fed daily like most).
So after taking winston out this morning i popped some powder in snoops bowl and gave him a handful of feed.

3 hours later arrive back at the yard and load up, snoop was far more settled and mum popped the rope behind him and he walked straight in YAY no rearing!!!

We arrive with plenty of time, tack up and hope on, little pig decides he would try his napping, but didnt amount to much and walked to the arena where Nigel was riding a horse.
Nige sent me down to the xc course so he could finish off with jumping the horse he was riding and so i could go and warm up, and take snoop chops through the water then come back and have my jumping lesson in the main arena.

Great, although snoop had other ideas and literally stamped and stormed both feet down, nigel looking over saying *god hes an argumentative so and so*
We eventually make it past the arena, and going towards the gallops but he really did try it on, although it wasnt rearing it was just throwing his front hooves out in temper!
This continued all the way down to nearly the xc course, but i wasnt giving in.
Then I think he had a light bulb moment as all the naughtyness went and he cantered around in the xc field like he knew what he was at.
Straight through the water, no hesitation YAY straight over the rails, over the ditch and trakehner through the water and up over the house YAY my boy was a star.
So walking back to the arena and it was back SJing.
Warmed up over a wall filler thing lol yes i know! gone are the days ppl use x poles lol
Then up over another and round over a descent one strided treble across the diagnal.
Snoopy answered every call, he really was operating today

Nigel really helped me sort out my hands and got me thinking of half halting sooner rather than later.
I was beginning to get the idea lol YAY light bulb moment for me lol
We got some smashing spots but we had the fence down because snoopy is actually waiting for ME to back him off the fence, but now with this new method hes having to do it himself.
We flew the water tray oxer, the fences were getting bigger and finish around doing a course of 1.10m YAY.
I was so thrilled with him.
For the first time today, snoopy settled and wasnt running on adrenaline, he got tired so we finished and i took him all the way back to the water again to walk in and out and hack back. He did it without having a nap!! RESULT!

He tied up to the lorry, not a peep out of him washed him off and bless him he was as quite as a mouse.
Loaded him up, he walked with no hesitation and mum wasnt even there with the rope, what a good boy!

Those who think i may have killed my horse, he cantered off across the field to join Winston and Bert, so i dont think he was that exhausted.

So tomorrow is FLATWORK and hopefully then we will be ready for wednesday.....

Thanks for reading.

For the moment yes lol

The video is fabby, mum got most of it, so its great to see the little guy and watch my faults.

Now if we can just sort out our flat work... thinking Madmare should ride him in the dressage for me, then the SJing might be okay, and Mrs T can stand waving her arms up and down to get him out the start gate, we may just get round our first intro lol as long as I dont fall off

It sounds as though he certainly has a lot to say for himself V!

Lots of questions as I haven't been on here for so long.....how long have you had him? Where/when's the BE debut? What calmer did you use?

I'm pleased you've got something to event - how's Winston?

no more questions now, I promise!

Brilliant BBs.

It is lovely when you have a good day, makes it feel all worth while.

What are you planning with Snoops this year?

Hi ya Cob

Bought snoops end of Oct 06, hes 16h just (with shoes on
wink.gif
) KWPN rising 5.

Hes highly opinonated, very affectionate, loves attention but likes to think hes knows best.
Hes off to a BE intro event on wednesday.... our prep has been shocking as hes been off for over 2 wks with a skin infection (caused by fly bites).
So we are cramming in a months amount of work into one week.

Thank god he can be adaptable lol

Calmer is from horse health wessex, will find out the name and pm you

Are you still renting your own yard?

BYEH! Wow, you must be proud to have a horse of that quality.

Snoops is really turning out to be a little cracker. So should I be ticking you and Bossanova for 2012 then?

Snoopy sounds very similar to Kiri with his naps....if i stop her rearing, she starts leaping off the floor like a stag along with grunting!!

It sounds like you are getting the better of him though, and bet there would be many people out there who would be scared off, letting him win each time!

Good luck for wednesday - he sounds like he's got more than enough scope to do really well!!

Yep still have my little yard

HAHA If i had a 5 year old donkey we would be going to BYEH I wanna be able to say Ive competed at Gatcombe

I think I will be a bit too old for 2012! but snoopy might go

Marvellous stuff! Have you considered giving him the calmer for a few days running, I know it's not designed for that, but just to have a few consecutive days without arguments?

[/ QUOTE ]

Its actually x my mind Vic.

I did wonder. I know YO uses a smiliar calmer and feeds it the day before and morning of an event/hunt.

I have dressage with joss tomorrow night, might be nice to have a nice quiet pony instead of tense electric buzzy pony lol

Hows Winston doing? Didn't he get diagnosed with a terminal problem a while back, sorry I am trying my best to remember.

Winston is fine. Although has ringbone.
Hes still sound tho and enjoying a slightly easy life, he will bsja overthe summer too, but im hoping he will have the treatment this summer so that he may come back and go eventing again. However, im glad i didnt run him this summer, i would have had to withdraw from everything.

Excellent, sounds like you are on track for a good day on Weds.

HAHA I live in hope he behaves and doesnt get a big fat E in the dressage or gets sub 50.
Then again he could be an angel in the dressage, have 5+ fences down in the SJing and storm the xc - whats the betting our best phase turns into our weakest lol

What ever happens i just hope we come home safe and sound.

Well done V! I was thinking about him yesterday. He is opinionated but it sounds like he is starting to work through his temper tantrums and hopefully you will be able to use that spark to your advantage.
Hope Joss lesson goes well today.
Can't wait to hear about Snoops big day!

x

Fanks everyone.

MM its def working to my advantage atm, he really jumped out of his skin yesterday, but was gernerally tired which was fantastic because for the first time I know how much work to do with him where as like on saturday he could have gone on for another 5 hours!!
Fingers x tonights session - but you would have been pleased, he really did do some lovely work in the SJing warm up, really carrying himself in trot and canter without relying on me to hold him up
grin.gif

Arghh starting to get really nervous about wed now
