I'm going round in circles! Think I'll go for Heiniger Cordless but of course expensive and not the smallest hand size available. I will only clip 2, maybe 3, times a season, he's a warmblood so not too hairy except its very dense over his quarters. He's always very suspicious, not to mention a bit head shy, so think cordless will be the easiest for both of us.

Anyone recommend these clippers or alternatives? Thanks a lot.

Hi have the Lister Liberty and they are ace also not too heavy so you can hold then without your hand falling off.

Thanks to the both of you but I have another question! When using a battery pack attached to my waist there is a wire from the pack to the clipper. Can this be detached, for example when I clip up his neck towards head he will quite possibly, indeed probably, throw a wobbly cos of the wire rather than the clippers.

Love on-line shopping but it can be confusing!

I have just (this second) brough the Walh Avalon Cordless clippers, they look good and I got a good report from people that already have them, they also have a bigger motor than the heinigers that you've been looking at

The wire from the battery to the handset is what is supplying the power though? Unless I'm missing something!!

I have some small rechargable trimmers (i.e. totally cordless, internal battery) for doing ticklish/spooky areas - might be worth investing in some of them as well.

Yes milliepops I agree, but a fellow livery clipped him for me last year using clippers which were completely wireless. Sadly I've lost contact with her.

Yeah, I think you can get some proper clippers (as opposed to trimmers) with internal batteries but I would imagine they would be heavier and more bulky than normal ones). Plus the clipping time tends to be quite short IIRC.

I have the liveryman harmonys and they're fab. Really really quiet, charge lasts ages. Come with 2 sets of blades etc

(don't clip with the fine blades though

Don't know to be honest, only seen them online, not actually in the flesh. I use the little Element ones for the head and top of neck, they are completely wireless.

Have just read the end of this properly!!! The battery pack stays attached to the clippers at all times. The pack is clipped to your waist, then the wire runs to the clippers in your hand. I've never had a horse object to to the wire, only the actual clippers

They are proper clippers then? I was just reading through the description again and thinking that they might only be trimmers.

Would they clip hairy ponies OK?

My clippers have just gone in to be repaired but if they are going to cost me a fortune to get fixed I think I would be better off buying a new pair, especially as they have 20% off.

The Heiniger cordless clippers are great, really hard wearing and fairly quiet as well. I clipped mine this weekend with them and it is great to be able to just move around without trailing leads. She can be quite sensitive and I managed half a face and ears without too much bother so don't think she was worried about the cord from the battery to the clippers. Wouldn't recomment the Wahl avalon, I have the corded version and although they are sold as clippers they just can't cope and are more suited as a trimmer. Mine kept cutting out and it took my 1 1/2 hours to do a shoulder and half a neck. It is only the second time I have used them and I gave up in the end a borrowed a friends set of Heiniger's.

I've got the Heiniger cordless clippers, they are a bit big but are not as heavy as you might think. They are also quite quiet, I would recommend them.

I have the battery pack avalons and do several full clips a year with them. Had them for 5 or 6 years now, usually do 4-6 clips a year. Aniseed it sounds like yours are faulty, I'd return them, they are far more than a trimmer....

I have the harmony clippers. Yes there is a lead from the battery pack to the clipper! They do clip but I find they struggle with thick hair and doesn't give the best of clips. I prefer my normal clippers for body and harmonys for face and general trimming! I would go for the proper big cordless clippers with no wire if I was you.

I fully recomend the heiniger cordless clippers. Don't take long to charge, good length of clipping time and not to heavy. I really struggle to clip with anything else now! And they are very tough. My dad is a herdsmen and has these clippers aswell for clipping cows tails. He's had the same clippers for about 6 years and in this time they have rarely been cleaned/maintained correctly and are stil going very strong!
