My daughter (age 13) has a big dressage competition coming up on a native pony. She has been wearing tweed jacket, beige trousers and a tie to compete however with this big competition she wants to wear her navy jacket, white jods and a stock. Will this be ok with a native? The owner of the pony likes the traditional look with tweed but will the navy be ok? Any advice please. Thank you ☺️

typical dressage turnout goes for natives too! i’ve just started doing a bit with my sec D, wearing my tweed atm since it cost me enough, but if we like it and decide to stick to it i’ll get the usual attire - i might draw the line at plaiting her up though, even if we do look a bit odd🤣

Thank you for the reply. Yes owner has refused the plaiting 😂 good luck on your new venture of dressage.

I don't plait mine - her mane is down to her knees. I do plait up her forelock which I know is incorrect but she has the habit of giving it a good flick if it's loose and judges don't appreciate that.

Just let her wear what she feels most comfortable in. Tweed is correct for a M&M but some people wear navy or black. Have a look on one of the dressage streaming websites or maybe one of the M&M dressage groups, most breeds will have one. It’s not necessary to plait and unless you’re particularly experienced probably better not to.

I wear tweed and beige jods up to novice and then grey, black or blue jacket depending on the weather and cream jods at elementary and above on my warmblood.

These days the rules are not so hard and fast Aand it is more up to personal choice provided the outfit complies with the rules.
