Cross Country on TV today!

That was a lovely stylish round by Kitty! Bit surprised by the time faults though - she didn’t look to be going slow or wasting any time setting up.

I much prefer not seeing horses pushed for the tight times.
Surely the fact that they are still trying to get the time is resulting in a lot of the errors we are seeing, otherwise they'd all just romp round the long routes?

How many are round within the time? I didn't think it was that many?
counted, 13 of 56 who have run.

yes, 13 inside, and 31 outside, so almost 3:1 outside the time. Seems fair enough, especially on a hot day as MP says above.

I did include those that eliminated/retired in my 56 just to clarify as 'starters'. It seems a very reasonable % for me and plenty moving significantly up and down after XC.

I think when the time is really tight it can end up with some rather chancey riding esp with the added pressure of a team competition.

The time should be comfortable for a well ridden good horse IMO. It's not supposed to be a race after all.

The only riders to finish 30s ish (23/25) within the time vogel 9.43 and vogg 9.45 so easy to pick one! (time is 10.10 I think).

I just don't like seeing them not being given the opportunity to jump well by chasing tight times.

I hear what your saying , but I disagree , the course technically is about right imo but it’s a European Championship so the time imo should be harder to achieve .

The fact that 2 have managed to finish that much within the time surely adds strength to my argument , bet that doesn’t happen next week at burghley .

Of course it won't Burghley is a 5* but with a similar class of horse.
exactly, so easy to forget when it looks like a mega course but lots of these horses have plenty of experience at an even higher level.
I think the worlds make it more obvious because there are less experienced nations competing then.

You have the remember this is a 4* (old 3*) level competition so you would expect the experienced 5* combinations to out there and be able to jump clear inside the time. Add to that the fact it is effectively an Olympic trial so you have a really strong field.
I think it's a nicely balanced course and the time is fine, conditions and going are perfect for fast riding

I’ve been enjoying it. Testing but not punishingly so, and no one has seemed vastly out of their depth which has happened in previous competitions and is not nice to watch. Bad luck for Tina- I actually think her horse was a bit dishonest ducking out like that, she didn’t do a lot wrong. As ever the Germans are looking fantastic! Excellent rounds from Pippa, Piggy and Kitty.

Do you want to pick which one? we can scoot back and check?
You check and let me know I hope your not suggesting I’ve made anything up We are allowed to differ, I respect your opinion it’s not a competition to be right as no one will be .
Yes burghley is 5 star which means the jumps more technical and higher but should not necessarily be harder in terms of time . Anyone finishing 30s inside the time let alone multiple finishing around that imo suggests in any level of competition the time is too easy .

Should the time ever be that influential? I know it has been when weather/ground conditions have played a part, but I wouldn't;t expect it to when the going looks to be pretty perfect.

Huh? I'm interested and just wondered which as it would make a difference which slot to look at, I was trying to help you out with your ID. Vogel avoided the Budgie and went straight on there to the triple brush but it doesn't seem like a particularly long route as it takes you in the right direction. She was also a bit scary quick through the coffin and elsewhere, not surprised she avoided the turn.
