I’ve met some lovely poos and doodles. Unlikely to be from health tested parents but temperamentally sound.

It isn’t just genetics which have an effect on a dog's temperament and behaviour.

Dam's hormones during pregnancy (cortisol)
Early experience
Environment
Gut microbiome, gut brain axis
Type of exercise
Sleep quality and quantity
Single event learning
Medical conditions
Pain

IMHO it is the owner’s role to be a “safe space” and to support their dog in times of stress – not cause it. Dogs deserve to feel safe.

Broadly agree, but genetics and how they deal with stress, by nature, dictates how a lot of dogs get 'over' some of the things on that list. One dog might have a bad/stressful experience in youth and get over it OK, another might carry it for life.

Half the trouble with the poo mixes is they are the fashion and people will pay a fortune for them , fair enough, my friend has got a cavalier /poodle from a breeder who does health checks and is very particular who has them, she told my friend that if ever she has problems she will take him back. He is about 18 months old now and a very calm reasonably obedient dog , which is due in part to my friends training but also his temperament..so many poo crosses in my area seem very nervous and scared of everything , very sad for the dogs as they don’t seem to enjoy their walks just want to get back home or to the car
