Crufts 2025

For obvious reasons, me and my OH were cringing at the dogs smacking into the board during the flyball. There must surely be lots of injuries and it can’t be a long career for the dogs?
Depends on a really wide variety of things. My girl retired at 10, never injured and could have carried on but I wanted her to end on a high. She ran at 1 - 2 seconds slower than the dogs you see at Crufts though and current dogs (granted they're 6" and 7" height dogs which aren't sports bred) ran 5 -7 seconds.

I don't know if there's been any studies but I'd be interested in seeing if there is a correlation between those who start them early on jumps/high impact work to get them out as soon as they meet the minimum age to compete and those who bring them through slowly. I have my own anecdotal suspicions but would be interested in the science.

I loved the whippet but she looks so shut down, no joy in her , made me feel uncomfortable.. I liked the cocker spaniel best and I’m not a spaniel person
I agree, the whippet was lovely and very correct but didnt show as much ‘sparkle’ as l would expect from a winning dog. Maybe just tired and fed up? The cocker was also lovely but was definitely fed up and didn’t show well although got better towards the end. I would have expected a bouncy, wagging tail. Maybe just not enough time for a rest. These dogs are on the go for hours on end and although somewhere like HOYS seems busy and is very tiring Crufts is a different level of exhaustion and noise.
