What do you wear to the yard? I feel my equestrian wardrobe could do with an overhaul, I’m sure I’m about 10 years out of date!

Inspire me! ?

Morning its denim or bright breeches, polo t shirt. Roll neck if it's cold and perhaps a soft shell light jacket over. (Got several Horsewear ones, they live forever! )
Afternoon used to be office wear sometimes, usually my current wear is jeans and polo t shirt.

Musto or Mountain Horse anorak if weather requires it.

At this time of the year, whatever I grab! At the moment usually a t-shirt and trousers/shorts or if I'm riding an t-shirt and breeches.

I dont really bother with proper equestrian clothing, its usually a lot more expensive and the horses dont really care what I look like ? I do like technical wear though so I buy sportswear for running/cycling, it's about half the price.

Winter will be in jeggings/running tights, long sleeve top and gillet if not raining ( I dont like wearing coats! ) if raining i will wear a short jacket. I ALWAYS have a scarf and knitted headband on.

If its pi*sing down I wear an all in one waterproof overall, not flattering but fab for staying clean and dry ?

I came late to the party for technical sports fabrics, having only realised how brilliant specialist textiles are, over the last couple of years.
When my faithful old polo shirts and winter jumpers gave up the ghost, I've been replacing them with tops that keep you cool in summer and warm in winter, without the old fashioned bulk of heavy fleeces and woollies.
Musto and Ariat are my favourites, but equally Sportspursuit have some great bargains from Scanadivian manufacturers of outdoor sports wear. Good old Millets have some handy stuff for everyday yard work too.

The yard is where gear goes to die, so I re-use retired mountaineering clothes until they fall to pieces.

This! I only go to a yard for RDA volunteering, but I wear charity shop trousers and my oldest jumper. I'm always puzzled by people wearing decent stuff, especially the kind of fabric that hay clings to. Surely horses can tell it's new/nice and make a point of dribbling on/or rubbing their filthy itchy head all over you?

Currently just a t-shirt to catch them in in the morning at about 6.00 am(horses are kept at home) and then when I get up properly later in the day it is shorts and an Ariat top (technical sport fabric). In winter it is old jogging bottoms with a ski shirt and fleece. I put breeches or riding tights on to ride.

When I’m riding my winter uniform is - Dublin warm-it riding tights, Pikeur roll-neck base layer (got 5 in different colours) with regatta fleece (I’ve got about 10 in various colours I’ve gained over about 15 years) over the top and a Horseware gilet (2 the same). If raining either a thin North Face mac over the top or Musto long canter jacket. Wear Ariat Grasmeres mostly. If not riding then usually jeggings instead of breeches and Aigle Parcours. Mostly wear woolly head bands rather than hats.

In summer I usually wear a wicking gym top or other cheap tops from Asda or sometimes polo shirts. Wear Ariat Terrains with half chaps. If not riding shorts or jeggings and trainers.

I also work from home a lot so wear it all day too so I don’t have many other casual clothes in addition.

I overhauled my riding wardrobe when I bought my mare and was able to start riding again. I used to always look scruffy and badly turned out, but I’d like to think I mostly look okish now.

On riding trips, breeches, long colourful socks with fitted tops/jumpers/gilets. Brands wise I’m partial to Ariat, HV polo and schokomole but only ever buy anything when it’s on sale! I also have some smarter primark jumpers and tops in amongst them.

No riding days the breeches are swapped for jeans, but everything else is much the same.

In the winter whatever is going to keep me warm, my favourites are the fleece lined leggings from primark underneath a pair of old jods. So cosy!

I've recently bought a few ariat sleeveless polos for the summer which are nice. Bought 3 for £50 in the hope valley sale.

Riding tights - I wear them religiously, fleece lined in winter, thin ones in summer. Now i'm working from home all the time I also wear them to work :D on the top it's whatever t shirt I happen to grab plus a jumper normally to.
Normally I go the yard straight from work so change in the car, luckily I can be pretty casual so I just change my jeans to riding tights and i'm away!

Layers in winter too as i'm always cold :)

Top layer: technical tops, fitted fleeces, soft shell or puff jackets.
Bottom later: jeans, riding leggings or fitted breeches.

I like to feel put together and technical fabrics are so much comfier and practical. Washing is easy compared to layers of winter jumpers.

Much like work, if I’m not clean or smart I don’t feel like I’m set to perform my best. A weird way to think perhaps but I like feeling put together, and do so on a daily basis. Nope that’s not a full face of makeup but just feeling clean, with fresh, fitted clothes, make sure shoes/nails/hair etc are presentable. Perhaps that comes from working with horses on some smart yards, where the owners would have a fit if I turned up in joggers and a stinky coat. My horses also are not allowed to rub their dribble or heads against me... I’m not a fence post.

Slim joggers and a long sleeve tee shirt maybe a hoodie. Winter jumpers and coats are good ones which are past their best so they become yard ones. Ariat trainres and half chaps to ride. I always look clean and tidy at least when I arrive! Things with holes and stains are ditched.

Jeans and a geeky t shirt or hoodie depending on the weather. Currently in shorts between rides as it's bloody hot out.

I am a total scruff through and through though

Breeches and a polo top in summer, and in winter it's breeches and a fleece lined top from Decathlon with another hoodie & coat if it's freezing.

As I seem to spend more and more time in yard clothes I like to try and look acceptable, the sort of acceptable where I wouldn't be self-concious if I bumped into someone I know, as if I look scruffy everyday then I end up feeling a bit crap. Although I am always covered in Copra meal dribble or hay or the like.. par for the course!

Winter: Whatever random breeches I picked up as a bargain (I refuse to spend more than £15 on breeches), t-shirt that I've grown out of as a base layer, an enormous hoodie with a kangaroo pocket to carry everything in.
Summer: Ditto for breeches, a t-shirt that still has slightly more fabric than holes.

If I'm not riding, I'll wear shorts in a desperate attempt to stop my legs being quite so brilliantly white. If I'm hacking, the top will be hi-viz - I picked up a load of cheap hi-viz t-shirts and hoodies from a builders merchant, and they're far more comfortable than wearing a vest on top.

That said, today I'm experimenting with riding tights. In the hour I've had them on, I've decided I like the phone pocket on the thigh but don't like the fact I've had to fold them up two inches, which means the silicon knee patches are on my calves and covered up by my boots.

Jeans or leggings with a t-shirt. Cheap wicking sports ones are ideal. A fleece and jacket too, in winter.

Pre COVID whatever was clean and weather appropriate (I get hot really easy, so I'll be in a t shirt when everyone else is bundled up!)

Now, as going to the barn is the only time I leave my house, I coordinate my outfit with Sugar's saddle pads :D today I am in a mint green top, black breeches and she will be wearing her mint green and pink mermaid saddle pad with matching pink boots!

I have also started wearing a bit of make up and earrings as I am tired of always looking, well tired!

Do you mean just a t shirt ? I hope they are long or your fields are not backing on to s housing estate or the M1. If it's the M1 it would explain the high number of r t C's lol

Aldi Jodphurs & Crew Polo Shirts, Dunnes Fleeces all for mucking out don't mind if they get trashed, cheap as chips. My mum commented you have a hole in your bum ! so I laughed and said will get another 20 years out of these. I do have nice horse gear but keep for non mucking out occasions. I remember going around to family gathering and some said "oh you have normal clothes" I think she realised what she had just said as soon as it came out LOL

In winter - you don't want to know how many layers! In summer far less. I don't wear any equestrian branded gear. Far too expensive! So it's Primarni skinny jeans and cheap running t-shirts from sports direct and a hoody all the way!

I am a shocking example and should be ashamed of myself etc etc....when seeing my two retirees I currently wear shorts, a vest top and flip tops (I know, I know!). When riding I wear an old and very comfy pair of jeggings with several holes in them and my old ariat riding boots. Nothing fancy here!

I don’t see why people should judge what others wear either. If you’re riding and looking after horses everyday why shouldn’t you invest in decent gear if you want to? Likewise if you don’t want to then don’t. Over the years I’ve found the things that are the most comfortable and practical for me and as you get older you especially need decent footwear thats supportive and that’s not cheap. I’ve a range of clothing from cheap to expensive solely depending on if it does the job I want it to or not.
