I have noticed a decrease in the number of comp reports in here and wondered why this is, i have two theories:

i) some people have left the board or do not post as they don't like the new format

and ii) there has been a lot of negativity in peoples replies to some posts, in some cases resulting in name changes or even people leaving the forum altogether.

I've noticed a lot when people ask for CC they also ask people to 'be nice', surely cc is constructive criticism and not 'abuse me any which way you can'

I was at Salperton on the W/E but no point doing comp report as i got a very undeserving 43.5 dressage :(, one down SJ (which is very good for us) and didnt run XC as was too hard for my boy as hes done a leg previous and has mild atherites!!

I promise i will do one next time!! :) :)

I do agree thou - alot less people in here and some not too nice from some things i have been reading/reading inbetween the lines!

Hellooo

I am relatively new in here and I like reading the reports but I am too scared to do one, incase I get shot down :( confidence is a bit flakey at the mo as it is :)

hi i just did my second comp report last night :)
i think it might be because they vanish so quicky with new forum

i haven't had any bad comments on any of mine even though my spelling is pretty rubbish :o and have noticed people comment on this (spelling etc )in other posts

iv'e never asked for cc as im to lazy to learn how to upload pics :D
but think you need to be quite thick skinned to do this anyway as its a bit like asking for trouble ,although most replies are constructive ,some are not :D

Well. I'm not worried about criticism as I know I'm quite rubbish! I don't do them for three reasons:

1. I do PN/Disco/Newcomers, nothing massive, so I don't think people would be interested. (This is illogical, as I love reading other PN/Disco/Newcomers reports!!!)

2. My reports would be quite dull as they would all go like this: Arrived at event. Realised had forgotten [insert vital bit of equipment]. Did useless [DR/XC/SJ/first round/JO/fell off in the water]. But was pleased as did a good [fishes about for a positive]. Conclusion is that horse is fab but needs a new rider.

3. I can't put pics in my posts! I can only post links to my profile! So if someone can help with 3...... I'll get over 1 and 2 and tell you all about my next outing at Eridge!

They disappear so quickly and unless you know everyone on here well then you will often get a grand total of 1 or maybe even 0 replies. Really not worth the effort :)

Takes me ages to do a report especially with pics, pc and I do not see eye to eye:D then as others have said, they disappear quickly or get very few comments. Also not sure if people are interested as I compete at a low level.

Would probably do more report if we were out competing more, but atm life and horses are conspiring against us!

Also see peoples point about some comments that can be posted, I really miss some long time users reports, but can see their reasoning for not posting anymore:(

i usedx to do a few but im banned from doing any jumping so no one wants to hear my terrible dressage reports. And as others have said unless u know loads of people they disapear so quickly. I love reading them though

Things disappear so fast. Last few reports I've done I'd come to the conclusion no one had replied (as it had gone) but when/if I have time to go to page 3/4/5 have generally found lots of lovely people have commented after all. It was so much better before :(
Think a lot of people are using FB instead where if you haven't got time to comment properly at least you can do the 'like' button so the poster knows it's been read.
It's a shame but things change, that's life - sigh.......

Its a shame people are using FB more.. although I am an avid fan! but you can't meet new people on there as easily and read reports from people you don't know but are in the same situation as you etc :(
I personally feel that I need to know the person more than just an occasional comment on a report before I add them on FB too.
When I gather the courage I may do a report one day.. but I am with others in that I don't feel confident in doing so yet! :p

I try to do reports but I don't always have anything very interesting to say and I can't seem to make it all sound exciting and funny like some other posters do. I'm also always on my own so I never have any photos which would make things more exciting I am sure.

Also, some people who used to report a lot have been a bit quiet, e.g. The Carthorse, and...I am so **** with names, who is the lady who had Spooks the pony and then Jazz the lovely mare, and the lady who has Diva and just had a baby?

Must admit I don't do many because I tend not to have many photos to include - Mum generally videos me which is more constructive and for obvious reasons can't put in pro pics. Also it's very time consuming uploading the pics - assume I'm correct in putting them into photobucket then using the link?

Have been totally unsuccessful in figuring how to upload videos to anything. Managed the other day to turn an 8 minute clip into 11gb, way too big to upload so figure I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone help me with what software they use? I can't plug the camcorder in as it's a sony and not compatible with my pc/laptop (spent ages searching web and that model just won't unless you have a sony vaio) so any tips for getting things off a dvd that I've created?

I post reports but gets very disheartening when they get a total of 3 replies.

Sometimes I wonder why bother; unless you are well known people arent going to comment!

Plus, if no one comments, the post disapears after 10minutes usually.

I am definately not using the forum as much!

It feels a lot more unfriendly and nasty criticism as well, which puts me off.

If your reports were anything like this post they wouldn't be dull at all! Thought that was very funny (and sounds a bit like us too!)

We are going to Eridge too, which day are you going?

Main reason I don't do reports is lack of time, as it does take a while to do it properly, especially if you include pics.

I don't really post comp reports as I don't think being placed in the lower top ten at BE warrants much of a report! I'm afraid I don't have the enthusiasm to write a report taking everyone round courses jump by jump (maybe I'm just getting old and withered!). I don't find it interesting, so why should anyone else?!

However, I should have posted about my baby horse at the weekend as she waltzed in and got 71.4% in her dressage, but I couldn't stay for the results so I don't know what happened :-( No results posted yet either. She was on top form and I'm very, very happy with her :-) I can feel BD calling for the winter....

Gosh NJ- in that case I should give up writing up reports as "only" lower top 10 BE placings counts as a good day at the office to some of us?! :( I don't think any level is too "lowly" to report on here- the board is full of different people and horses at different levels doing different things and it's nice to hear of folk getting out and enjoying their horses, whether it's a RC walk/trot test or 4* eventing.

I am happy to blether away and share photos from my outings and share experiences, if folk don't want to read/comment then that's fair enough. Equally, if others don't want to report, then that's their call too. I like hearing about how everyone else is getting on, even if I don't always have time to reply. A "like" button similar to FB would be great!

I do feel the board has lost many valuable contributors though in the last year which makes me sad. :(

I tend to lurk in CR most of all - most people who post in here seem quite level headed compared to some of the more interesting characters in New Lounge. I love reading the comp reports (esp. ones with pics!), I dont reply though as I can't imagine who'd be interested in a total numpty like me saying nice things - I have no particular talent anywhere and therefore no positive input to make. I dont post reports myself as I suspect nobody would get too excited about my (usually) disastrous attempts at unaffiliated prelim dressage or crappy RC SJ. :)

Lurking is a safer option for no-hopers like me - but doesn't mean the comp reports aren't appreciated! You can learn a lot through other peoples experiences! :)

I have only just started writing reports, as they were demanded by langside who had received them by PM previously, as I was too scared/shy (not sure of the right word) to post them! :o But now I have done two and will continue to post more and get a cameraman sorted too :).

awww, i LOVE reports, with or without piccies, its nice to have a YAY with people when its going well or offer a shoulder to snot on when it isnt.

and i am forever doing reports on just about anything, people get sick of me im sure.....got a clinic this weekend so millions of turner towers pics will be headed this way after that!!!!

Well done!!! She looks gorgeous and I imagine she should have been really well placed with such a score! It's such a shame when centres take eons to post results on line, BD has a 2-4 week delay which is always annoying. By the time you get to see the results you have forgotten all about the test!

I have kept up the comp reports this year although they do tend to disappear quickly unless you have plenty of replies. You need to reply to the replies to keep them on page 1;)

I tend to only report on 'proper' events i.e BE but enjoy some unaff reports from others. I think Figjam's reports with Mr FJ's photos are great & Sarah Jane is very good at them too. Photos help loads but most of the rest of us have to rely on pro pics or our own dodgy snaps.

Its easier to do reports when things go well or very badly - middle of the road is harder to make interesting.

I am missing reports from some more experienced members like Baydale & Tabledancer.

Maybe for this reason or because of no replies at all, i recently posted a short report of how a comp went, asked for CC and had no replies.
