We had a Cushings horse after he was diagnosed we opted to treat him with prascend it cost around £1.20 a day ( after I sorted out a prescription hugely expensive directly from the vet)
He also had to have 6 months blood tests to assess how the prascend was working to get the prescription. His readings were very high.
It wasn't cheap and getting him to take the tablets a constant worry as well get him to eat as prascend surpresses appetite. He was 26 when we lost him and we had managed hin for 3 years
I now wonder if I would take that road again but opt for PTS on diagnosis.
Well done for being the owner every horse deserves.

Please to look at your finances and decide on going costs are to much is a sign of maturity. I would applaud you to say ok enough. I did myself for different reasons. To make “that” decision is damn hard but I hold my head high because I did what I believe was right for my young girl. A shoulder is always here. X

i know i sound all over the place sorry but its looking like we are more towards pts. We sadly don’t have the money to keep looking after her and thats not fair on her. i really hoped i could help her but we really cant afford it. My mam is ringing vets monday and probably see how much everything will be and go from there x

It's no wonder you are all over the place, it's a horrible decision to have to make. If money is an issue then the hunt or fallen stock people are a lot cheaper and many people, including me, prefer the quick end over injections.

I hope you can sort things quickly.

update

Sadly bluebell was put to sleep this afternoon. I laid with her until she was picked up. It was very peacefully and I don't regret my decision, she's now pain free. Honestly I don't think I've fully processed it yet but it does feel like a weights has lifted off my shoulders, as awful as that sounds.

We had a little photo shoot yesterday and i want to share some of my favourites 💙

What a lovely girl she looks. She’s lucky she had her looking out for her. It is a relief to know they are no longer in any pain so I totally understand the feeling of relief. The grief of losing them is of course still there. Hope you’re doing ok. Big hugs.
She was honestly the best little pony. Everyone who knew her would say shes the most kindest and sweetest soul you’ll ever met xx

I’m so sorry to hear this, it sounds as though you’ve done what was best for her and that takes a lot of courage. I know what you mean about feeling bad leaving her as I’m the same when I have to say goodbye. She was certainly a much-loved pony and she has you to thank for that. She looks so sweet in the photos, what a lovely pony.

Aw LifewithFlash, I'm so sorry. But you did the right thing for your lovely pony. The fact that you felt relief amid the sadness is perfectly normal in these circumstances.
Sleep well sweet girl

What a lovely pony, she looks very gentle and content.

I'm sorry you will be feeling so conflicted, but please know that's how many of us feel after a long fight for our horses. Grief can live very easily alongside relief. One does not cancel the other. You have done the last kindness for your girl and she was lucky to have such a caring owner.

RIP lovely Bluebell. Lifewithflash take some time to care for yourself now xxx

OP, that brought a tear to my eye. Well done on making the decision. The last act of love we can give our animals.
I am glad you feel relieved and you should be proud of yourself.
Bluebell is now at peace and your worries are over.
Have a hug if you need it x

I still cant believe she's gone. I hope I gave her a good last day, filled with lots of food and even had a pot noodle which she loved. I am happy with my decision as she went when she was still happy and not too late.
I wish I could have known what that inflammation in her airway was and what was wrong with her legs but oh well. Now she'll never feel pain ever again.

I have my other pony to focus my full attention on and I'm glad bluebell met him and almost approved of him. He stood at the gate and was winning when she was getting loaded onto the wagon which broke my heart.
It's been a lot harder than I thought it would be. I cant look at pictures or videos of her yet without crying, I just wish I could just go back and spend just even a bit more time with her.
Thank you everyone for the kind words, its been what feels like a long journey since I first posted about her, I really appreciate it xx

So sorry for. Your sad loss. Bluebell was lucky to have you there to make the toughest of decisions which are so very hard for a caring owner.
The photos are lovely and in time you’ll be able to focus on the happy times you gave her. Xx
