Did your horses come to you named? If they did would you have named them differently? And lastly, did you change the stable name of your previously named horse?

I ask this because My oldest boy "Chester" was named prior. I hate his registered name of "Mega Chester" I would have put more thought into it. I could have changed his stable name, but for some reason I just cannot bring myself to change the name of a previously named animal

It seems like a "lie" to me

Out of the 4 that I have now I only named one (Cahsew

, but he is a mini so forgive me for that!

)

The others, "Tex"(registered name Tex Zippo Pine is not so bad) and "Charlie" would never have been named this if I had been in control of the situation?

so anyhow....what is your story

My 2nd pony was called Dexter and really suited him...he was named by some young children at the yard he was previously, but then we found his name was actually Jester! But kept Dexter anyway
smile.gif

Bailey was named when we got him, don't think its that great or bad just tink it suits him now..

We have just bought one whose name I shall not reveal atm, but lets say, most people have recoiled or laughed when they heard it. I have been whinged at to change it, but i won't because he knows his name, and it suits him. Too much confusion for them coming to a new home then burdening them with a new name too.
(I actually quite like his name, it reminds me of Black Beauty).

I like Camelot!

Chesters name just seems like it should have been "sexier"
grin.gif
He is so sexy and when the breeders names him as a baby they really could have cared less I think

All the horses had names, Mini Cooper stayed as Cooper, the paint is Outlaws Robin Gold (what a mouthful) and is Robin the Dobbin, or Dopey Daisy and Lola was called Sky but it just didn't suit her at all, her reg name is Baikala Bey, I think I'll have a poll on here to name her foal when it arrives (all being well of course)

Bertie was my first horse bought 16 years ago - his name was Bertie but I had no idea of his competition/racing name - so I named him Bertie Bassett.
Our next horse was bought from the sales and only had his racing name so we called him Arnie.
The next horse came from the same dealer we bought bertie from, she was named after a planet, just because the dearlers daughter was going through the solar system of names - I didnt like the name and just looked at place names of where or close to where the horse was from in Ireland - I called her Ballybay.
The next horse was Winston, and he came with his name. Although he does seem to have a few names on his passport. He was called winston because he was born on D day 6th of June.
And then there was my latest purchase, Snoopy - who was called Noppy at the same dealers yard due to his very long dutch name that ended in oppus so they called him noppy for short - i didnt like that and for some reason just came across the name Snoopy/Snoop and it suits him to a T.

Phew sorry, rambled - what was the question again

I wouldn't have chosen Spring as a stable name, but quite like her registered name of Spring Gambul. Not sure what would suit her as a stable name really
crazy.gif
I won't change it now though as she knows it. My old welshy came with the name Llwellyn which I changed to Louis as couldn't face shouting Llwellyn across the field! Louis suited him and it wasn't so much of a change for him.

I didnt name Ginny. When she first came to our yard to be schooled we couldnt remember whether her name was Ginny or Gena. Hated Gena so it ended up being Ginny
grin.gif

It actually quite suits her but I would never have named her that. The dealer who she originaly came from called her summer
tongue.gif
There is no way she is a summer, shes too naughty.
She got her show name, gingenie, from the YO's OH. He kept singing it whilst doing yard work n it kind of stuck.

One of mine has the stable name 'Eric' which although I thought was a little odd initially it has grown on me and it does really suit him.
He had competed BSJA (not too successfully
crazy.gif
) with the name Southmoor Cantona which I didn't like but wouln't have liked to have changed cos I think it could be unlucky but then when I got his passport he had a different name again. It turns out that his owner previous to me didin't like his original name (given to him by his breeder) so changed it for BSJA.
Anyway I now compete him by the name given to him by his breeder (even though its definately not what I would have called him) which I think is the one we should really stick to if at all possible.
Dunno if thats any help

maddie was called jaszmine I think we bought her from a dealer he couldn't tell us her name but his stable lad said her name was jaszmine. she didn't came to it or look like one so we called her maddie.

althoungh Up here its, unlucky to change a horses name
confused.gif
or so they say!!

Bo is Rambo according to his breed papers, and so it stayed. However, his stable name was Rammy (
blush.gif
) at the dealers yard and we couldn't live with taht so we changed it to Bo
smile.gif
He was probably called something completely different in Holland anyway.......hmmm....must ask his previous owner that one...didn't think to last time we spoke

Would also like to add...

My boyfriends horses - came to him named, and perhaps he should have changed them!

Risky, turned out to be a complete nightmare.
Pinged a tendon, retired to the field, tried to breed from her but she kept aborting, decided to bring her back into work and then she hung her self on a fence stake, piercing her thoracic cavity.

Killer, named so because of past and present behaviour.

Royale didnt have a name so I named her after my dads new car;) Royale Cavalier - it suited her as she could be very snooty.
Ebony was unamed and yes she was black!
Tallagh was called Ruby and I hated it, who would call a dapple grey Ruby?! So Tallagh Mist she became - Tallagh was after a little village in Ireland my hubby loves and the mist came from the Jackie books (I always wanted a dapple grey called Misty!) how sad am I! lol
Georgie came as Georgie - his registered name is Annestown Merger which I dont like very much buy hey ho.

The little 13.2 grey in my signature was called..... Barbie!

It wasn't my favourite name, especially not as a 13 year old teenager but she was only on loan so I couldn't change it!
I got used to it in the end and she used to have an army of little girl fans who used to follow her around at PC so it was actually quite sweet lol

My 1st pony was called Misty and I liked that so I kept it.
My 3rd horse didn't have a name bless her, so I called her Glory which I really loved but has painful memories now. Her show name was Mornington Crescent after the tube station as she had a moon shaped star.
(RIP both of them
frown.gif
)

Current horse I ride, also in sig, is April (show name Bay Angel) and I think her name is great.

My aunt just named her new Black Filly Ebony!
laugh.gif
grin.gif

her other horses stable names are.....Honey...Goodness, and Cuddles
smirk.gif
I told her no more sappy lovey names or we were calling her farm "The Sappy Ranch" ! lol
grin.gif

Ted came to me called Ted and it suits him down to the ground.
His Weatherby's name is 'Well Ted' and i really like it. It is a simple name and it just comes across as calm and in proportion after the the Van de val fen darfs around.
Lou x

Over the years ive loaned a Millie, Lucy and Bess all of which i think suited them.

The horse i bought of my own is called in full Calico, but everyone calls him cal.
He doesnt have a showing name so i can invent one for him if i ever show him

I have recently been horse hunting and some of the horse's names made me shudder. I don't know if I could have lived with a Bob or an Angel!! I wouldn't want to change its name either, but I couldn't have imagined myself going around a x country cross saying 'come on Angel/ Bob we are doing well etc...'

Luckily the horse I bought has a nice name (Pebble) and I got to choose his registered name which was fun.

lol Bob's quite cool
wink.gif

My cat was called Breezer when I got her so I changed it to Molly... wandering OT I know!

My very thick irish cob was called Dermot which suits him perfectly.
Clydesdale x highland mare was called Skye of lachranneach and Skye suits her fine

My Section A came to me named Sparkle - and when she's clean (which is not very often!) she really does sparkle - which is why her previous owners changed her name from Dusty!

(She's affectionately known as Tarnish at the moment because she's so grubby!).

The pony that is in my aviator (now sold) was bought from an auction with no name, im rubbish at picking names so called him Billy ( Little Billy Whizz ) and i must say it really suited him as he had such a cheeky character.

The horse i have now is called Lady, which i know is boring but i dont believe in changing names.

Mine have all kept their names, with the exception of Darcy who is registered as Castle Valentine and hadnt been given a stable name by the woman I bought him from, hes TB so i felt Darcy suited him (well bred, arrogant English gentleman...).

I have been given another TB on loan to school, she is called Pinky and she is a strawberry roan.. I hate pink with a passion as was determined to change it but I cant as it suits her. She gets refered too as Pinkz or The Pink Thing now.....
