It is a privilege to own any animal. It should be a privilege (no matter how painful) to end their suffering. It is something we can do for our animals and that we cannot do for our human loved ones. I have been present every time for all our horses, cats and dogs and I don't regret a moment of any of them. I sleep easy knowing they passed quickly and peacefully with loving hands on their backs and a soft voice in their ear. I have waited too long a couple of times as it can be hard to see what is in front of you but overall I am proud of the care my animals have received and as others have said "Better a day too soon than a moment too late", is my motto now.

As an update the owner of this dog is now not speaking to me. I thought it would pass, but now it is almost a month. She has told another mutual friend that I 'bullied' her into letting me take the dog to the vet, and that if she had kept him he might have responded positively to a tumeric paste supplement. Our mutual friend tried to reason woth her, and pointed out that the dog was of an advanced age and suffering, but apparently she is having none of it. I am a little sad to lose a friend, but honestly I would do the same again any day of the week:(

The dog was off its feet. Does she think turmeric paste has magical properties?

Thank goodness you took the dog to the vet. Poor thing could have been laid there yet. Dreadful woman

She has to blame you, if she doesn't she is complicit in ending the life of her dog and she can't face it.

Animals like hers deserve better owners, who can face their own pain and do the right and kind thing.
