Disturbing horse owner behaviour

Does it matter?

lol this!!!!
Is this really all you have to get worked up over in your life - jeez lucky you !!!

Im of the old school sticks and stones type - so words mean nothing to me - omg cant believe your so upset because owners call themselves mummies rofl!!! :D:D:D

My daughter was promptly put in her place when i over heard her tell her pony " Be a good boy "GRANNY" is riding you today" WTF!!!!

I refer to myself as mummy to the horses and the dogs. For the life of me, I can't see why it should annoy anyone, or have anyone think anything of it but me. For the record, I am not young and my horses are all very well behaved. I agree about the ponio thing and "foalie" also annoys me, but not enough to start a thread about it

Come to think of it, I often refer to myself as Auntie Naturally to other people's horses and kids so I am possibly just as bad :o I prefer the auntie connotation to mummy though.

My OH is "daddy" to two horses and two cats. Uncle to a little human boy and about 9 horses, another cat, about 6 dogs and two guinea pigs.

He thinks it's hilarious... so do his mates :D:D:D:D:D

Buds has a voice, he has a deep yorkshire accent with a lisp, cause you know he's a horse so has big teeth...

He has alot to say ;)

Growing up all the animals talked back and still do. Even my gran does it

OP, I don't want to worry you too much, but my OH calls himself Daddy and 2 of our horses Daddy's Princess and Daddy's Princess no 2...
It's just an endearing turn of phrase, we don't believe any of the horses actually understand English or care a jot what they are called. I also don't believe they are my babies.
I'm pretty normal, well, at least pretty normal for a horsey person.

Not in the grand schemeof things, no. Just a mild irritant. I think it's indicative of the change in general horse ownership. Years ago, horses were just - horses.

Oh, they are still horses.... just owned by hormonal women these days :D:D:D:D:)

I don't as a rule refer to myself as my animals 'mummy', though I have in the past in jest. I know I'm not their mom, and I care for them all as animals, not people. I don't see any harm in calling yourself your pets 'mummy' or whatever, it isn't hurting anyone. I certainly don't think that referring to yourself as such means that you aren't caring for them correctly, or spoiling them and letting them become ill-mannered. To each his or her own, I can't really pass judgement as someone who regularly has one sided conversations with my animals. :o I think I'd rather see the ones who care so much that they call themselves 'mummy' than the ones who seem to think their horses are machines. Just my two cents worth. :)

Wonder what Malteser's voice would be like if he had one....??? In my head he doesn't look where he's going and sings songs to himself all day.

Sorry, but why not?????

I don't care if anyone wants to call themselves "mummy". Do what you like. You pay for it. Strange that it bothers people so much.

Ye Gods. Forget about it.

:D[/QUOT

^^^this^^^ don't understand why it would wind someone up so much....no I don't refer to myself as 'mummy' but it certainly doesn't bother me when other people do......it never has!!!!!!

Is that better or worse than the valentines day card I got from mine a couple of years ago?!

Actually spat tea over the laptop, BRILLIANT! Haa. I also get mothers day cards and birthday cards and presents from Buddy, my dog and my hens haha :p

exactly and I would rather call myself mummy than ever call my horses "it"

Why should it bother you if someone calls their horse "it"?

If the rest of us aren't allowed to have an opinion on someone who chooses to call themselves their "wickle ponio's mummykins", why should you be able to judge others who call their beasts "it"

She was just stating her own opnion  much like you are...

So, if you didn't call yourself -------'s MUM, what WOULD you call yourself?

I am Fergie / Darach / J's boss.

I'm also Fergie's Defender of the Pony against the Monstrous Regiment of Birds, which lurk in hedgerows and crop fields

I honestly don't care what other people say, all I am saying is I would never call my horse, or any living being "it". I also never said anyone could not have an opinion, merely wondered why it would upset someone if someone refers to themselve as mummy. So not sure where I was judging anyone quite honestly.

She said previously she doesn't think it's anyone else's business whether she calls herself her horse's mum. If so, it's none of hers if I (or anyone else) choose to call our horses "it" ;)

Not entirely sure ANY of us call ourselves "wickle ponio mummikins" a gross, yet very effective, exaggeration in order to make us sound even more stupid than we obviously are.

Come on - if you are a "wickle ponio mummikins" type - own up!

so saying I can't see why it should annoy anyone, is NOT saying it is not anyone else's business. I am wondering why you feel the need to be so rude?

Hey my mum is the scariest bossiest person i know :p

Also I think secretly you are Fergie's mumma, thats what mummy's do, protect da babies :D;)

I never refer to myself as my horse's mommy, and it doesn't really bother me if others do it with theirs - other things are far more important, e.g. the quality of horse care.

However, I do find it irritating to read an article in a magazine where the horse would tell me about his best friend in the field, about the day that his mommy came up late to the yard and therefore gave him his breakfast later than usual, etc. I usually only read the first few sentences and then couldn't be bothered to read any further.
