Disturbing horse owner behaviour

Oh God NO! No!!!!!

Not the OPINION definers!!!!!!!!!!

*runs awaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy*

Definitely not a 'mummy' here  I didn't (a) give birth to them (thankfully  ) or (b) sign any official fostering/adoption agreements. I bought them; they are my property, I am their owner.

Doesn't mean I care for them any less..

I'll have to add "mummy to a rottweiler" to my signature too...you tell me I'm not the boss of him bwahahahahaha :D ;)

On a serious note, I thought clicking on this thread I'd be reading about "disturbing horse owner behaviour". Oh, how sheltered we all are! ;)

Haven't read the whole thread, but REALLY people??? Don't we have more important things to worry about than what other people call their horses? That they own. And care for. And pay for.
Anyone heard of the concept of 'live and let live'?

Is it anyone else's business whether you call your horse 'mummy's ickle soldier', 'it', 's***head' or anything else in between???

I refer to my horse by his first name or "he". I see myself as his owner - by which I mean responsible for parting with ever increasing amounts of money. My God are horses high maintenance these days.:)

I never refer to myself as my horse's mommy, and it doesn't really bother me if others do it with theirs - other things are far more important, e.g. the quality of horse care.

However, I do find it irritating to read an article in a magazine where the horse would tell me about his best friend in the field, about the day that his mommy came up late to the yard and therefore gave him his breakfast later than usual, etc. I usually only read the first few sentences and then couldn't be bothered to read any further.

Yes! Threads where the horse is apparently 'typing' do my head in. That has to be worse than calling yourself the animal's Mum surely? Adverts in the first person are a killer 'My mummy is very sad that she is having to sell me as I am such a good boy and she says that I am really good for a beginner or someone who likes to jump.....'

Urgh. Kill me now!

I'm queen b*tch to my 3. I think the 17.3hh Hanoverian would take me out if I referred to myself as 'mummy', he might be a wuss, but even he wouldn't stand for mummy talk. Yesh, it does seem a little weird thought come to think of it, not something I'd ever thought of before.

And where does it say in the t&c's that every post on here must be of national importance?

Haven't you got more important things to do than criticise other posts and use excessive question marks??? ;)

Yeah, and then, you go to a tack shop and ask for a plain cavesson noseband.

The lady points you to a tiny little bit at the back, full of dust and cobwebs and says "Right there, past the pink and diamante headcollars".

Hey my mum is the scariest bossiest person i know :p

Also I think secretly you are Fergie's mumma, thats what mummy's do, protect da babies :D;)

It is, however, frowned upon, as a mother to crack your child one with your whip because he spooked for the nine millionth time at the a horse eating sparrow ;)

Billie1007, I used to be on a yard with someone who actually used that phrase on almost 17hh worth of warmblood. As I recall, she was never in control of the beast, but I think that she was about as extreme as they come!

HBM1 if you didn't mean to imply that it's not anyone else's business, what, pray, is the purpose of the phrase "or have anyone think anything of it but me." ? :) I find your manner quite offensive, if I'm honest. I believe the OP wrote the thread in jest, a tone which most of the replies are in keeping with.

I call Charles ponio, beast and if he's been really terrible IT

But he's fed, water and exercised well which is more than I can say for a lot of horses...

Again probably right, but my oldie is 36 now and I has been a pampered pony for 31 years. He had excellent manners until he got very old and we started laughing when he played up, just happy he still has it in him.

:o:p:p:D

Our 30 yr old gets away with murder! We wouldn't have dreamed of letting her wander round the yard nibbling whatever takes her fancy in her younger days, or pushing the stable door open when she got bored of waiting for us. But I certainly don't call myself her 'mummy' - she belongs to my Dad!

Excessive Question marks?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I can't think what you mean....

:D

Having re-read my post, I do concede that it makes me sound like a grumpy old fart. I'm going to go back to my hole now.

*slinks off, grumbling quietly to self*

Sister then :D :D :D

Buds has a voice, he has a deep yorkshire accent with a lisp, cause you know he's a horse so has big teeth...

He has alot to say ;)

Growing up all the animals talked back and still do. Even my gran does it

My old mare has a voice, it's like Madge Bishop from Neighbours. Our cat has one too.
Anything to make life a bit humourous!!

Red the first 5 pages, things were following the same pattern, looked at the 8th page and got lost!

Going back to 'Mummies'...
I don't call myself Alvin's Mum, to be honest I see nothing wrong with people using 'Mummy' but I don't use it, mainly because at only 17, calling myself a Mummy (albeit a horses) is altogether too weird. If I call myself anything, it's owner eg I'm such a neglectful owner leaving him out in the rain with no rug. Between my friends we've a running joke that if one of us does something not quite strickly BHS/ pony club manual, we say we're a bad ponyclubber :o

I can just imagine a load of 17 year olds walking about with great big clubs looking for ponies......

Crikey, I am doomed, or just confused... I not only call myself my horses' mum, my liveries horses' auntie but also refer to most of them as ''it''

I'm with you there I think! I call myself mum, him my baby yet hes currently out in a field getting wet. Hes a 17hh warmblood ;). He responds well to anything I call him from "baby" to "it" and everything inbetween depending on his mood! The horses that I look after are usually "it", "he" or "she". Sometimes they get names and the owners call me their "Auntie". So our whole yard is quite clearly barmy..... good thing everyone gets on and is lovely then!

I have a mummy complex.., so what, tbh I think there are things that we can find disturbing in everyone, I produced my horse, have been with her through every achievement over the years, have scolded her, coaxed her, directed her, praised her, been and continue to be proud of her. I call my oh 'baby' that does not mean I envision him in a nappy, it is a term of endearment! I refer to myself as my mares (and geldings) mummy, but I also view them as my friends and strength and they are mummy's little helper although a damn site more effective and you don't need a prescription for them! What business is it of anyones how we refer to our relationships with our horses? And fwiw I do not mollycoddle, over rug, over feed or pamper, my horses are left to be horses as much as absolutely possible...

I sometimes refer to Ned as my Brother, which stems from the song "Brothers Under the Sun" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Okl8Lgcx94w which is a song from one of my all time favourite movies.
I called my cat my Little Sister and I call my dog my Sister sometimes too.

I think it has the potential to be creepy, but just calling a horse "baby" or calling yourself it's mother is just fine :)

Ok,hand up-he's my baby and I'm his mommy(only when I'm talking to him at the yard tho...not when I'm out with friends or at the supermarket or anything-
then,he's my horse:) ) *runs off to hide*
