Flat - front brushing
jumping- front brushing
xc- all 4 brushing + over reach
hack - all 4 brushing- + over reach if likely to be muddy
in field- only the horse wears over reach cause he pulls his shoes off
Brushing boots as she is a little spooky and I don't want any cuts, Knee boots hacking as she's slipped over going down a hill once, thankfully she was ok but I'm not taking any more chances
I'm exactly the same as Rachael star for my current horse except I don't generally use over reach boots at all. I showjump and hunt my boy. I don't believe in using boots unless there is a particular need (horse is liable to strike itself due to conformation, horse is young/green/silly/unkown, horse is jumping very high).
b)jumping - Front Tendon and when they have studs in, hind fetlock - having seen a horse do serious damage to DDFT by striking with an (unshod!) hind I will never jump without tendon boots.

Totally agree with everything you have just said. My boy doesnt need boots at all, I only worse brushing boots as it was his first time xc and didnt want him to knock his legs hard, next time I doubt I will bother.
Thanks for all your answers so far! I was just thinking of all the boots and bandages some people put on there horses and wondering why...
Indeed Maggie is always in brushing boots but she is very safe and sensible and doesn't really brush! But that's what her owner has her in so i continued with it....
Do you think there are any ill effects from over booting?
Hacking - training wraps or tendon boots in front, normally use the former in nice weather and the latter when boggy (wraps are cooler, tendon boots easier to clean when dirty)
Jumping - tendon boots in front, fetlock boots behind. When SJing we used to use overreach boots too, but we rarely jump these days (just on fun rides). Used fetlock boots as Elz had a tendency to brush behind.
Flat - pro choice elite boots in front, occasionally behind if going is a bit dodgy (ie likely to make her trip or brush)
She doesn't jump, unfortunately but we do lots of pole work, so pro choice boots again.
Front pro choice boots out hacking.
Although pro choice are much maligned for making horses legs hot, they do give lots of support.
Nothing for turnout - I always used to turnout in boots cos she is a thug, but they made her fetlocks swell, think she is better without.
b)jumping + XC + Pole work
4 brushing and over reaches
c)hacking
4 brushing and over reaches
d)in field
over reaches if its really hot (shes got white feet )
when she gets older shell be turned out in 4 brushing and 4 over reaches
e) dressage warm up
2 fronts and over reaches
f) stable
looking at getting some magnetic wraps
i boot up because shes old and has got quite clean legs, so want to keep them that way
she over reaches
and back legs are too close, so are shod differently and booted up to try stop her clipping herself; used to use one of those sausage boot things on a back leg, but she didnt like that :L
Flat - brushing boots all round, I do a lot of lateral work and it would be irritating if a silly bump meant my horse had to have time off in the comp season.
Jumping - tendon and fetlock boots. Never used boots up to pre novice, but wouldn't be without now. Had a whoopsie out in the jump field last night and her boots took the brunt of it, so glad she had them on.
For xc - xc boots and over reaches - don't see the point in skimping when you are going over fixed obstacles at speed
Hacking - reflective brushing boots (reasons as flatwork, plus reflective for visibility on the road)
Field - nothing, unless there's a new horse being introduced to the group.
flat work - equilibrium stretch and flex boots and over reach boots if having a lesson as do more lateral work otherwise nothing
jumping - eskadron tendon boots and fetlock boots and over reach boots for SJ, prolite boots all round for XC plus equilibrium over reach boots
hacking - over reach boots if doing fast work
field - nothing
Wear them for x country, front, back and over reach. Occasionally for flat work and jumping but not as a rule just if I feel he's fresh. However, I do like to collect them, just a fetish I seem to have and ca't help buying them
Schooling - bandages over Eskadron pads and over reach boots.
Hacking or lunging: brushing boots all round and over reach boots.
Turnout: rubber over reach boots at all times! but nothing else unless in a new field.
a)flat - winter brushing boots all round & OR boots, summer tendon boots, fetlock boots and OR boots
b)jumping - don't jump but if I did as above!
c)hacking - as on the flat but inc knee boots if doing a lot of roadwork
d)in field - OR boots on the advice of my farrier all year round as both my horses are remedially shod. My old gelding wears bioflow brushing boots at night (alternate between front legs and back legs). Both wear Turnout socks in the winter when its really muddy as both have had mud fever before.
flat work :- polo bandages or brushing boots, over reach boots. For support and to prevent knocks and bangs.
hacking :- brushing boots all round and o/r boots. Again to prevent knocks and bangs.
I dont use boots for t/o as I like the legs to have some air and think it cant be good for them to be in boots all day. If the ground is muddy or slippy I will consider brushing boots.
a)flat - bandages or brushing boots & fetlock bootsas she is pigeon toed at the front and tends to take chunks out of her own legs and seems to be a little close behind
b)jumping - brushing boots & O/R boots, however after reading one of the posts above may investigate tendon boots
c)hacking - brushing boots and O/R - as a!
d)in field - none while she is 24/7 in the summer and no boot can do that long! When she starts coming in at night and in winter, if conditions allow, she will go out with the equilibrium close contact boots ( the stomate ones) as she does get mud fever and they do seem to help
Flat - generally nothing if he is in a silly mood bandages - his legs go everywhere!
Jumping - nothing at the moment as they are very small fences.
Hacking - knee boots, white OR boots with brushing boots or bandages and hiviz wraps. - He can nap when hacking by spinning so want as much protection on him as possible in case he goes down also his legs have a mind of their own generally.
Field - at home he is out 24/7 with nothing on. When at the uni yard and out for a few hours with different horses brushing boots all round.
