Do you think this horse is greying out & what colour? pics

So I wonder what Princes parents were? I don't know anything about himeexcept his last owner brought him from Derby market.

mjcssjw2 does your horse have leg barring? Is that a dorsal stripe I spy.

You're asking all the right questions Cloball. :D Just remember that dorsal stripes do not always equal Dun.

oh this is a good thread, sorry op, yes dorsal stripe, dont think there is any striping on legs, looks orangey coloured in some lights and i am sure i see dapples in some lights.
 
that ticking is really common, almost all of mine have it, maybe its a cob thing? Its just sabino, in some cases it can be maximally expressed sabino which makes the horse appear almost white. I had a bay and white who actually looked pink there was that much flecking :)
 
Roaning is often seen on coloured horses that have sabino. Most of my paints have roan patches here and there, none are roan, or greying out. I think your boy is a bay tobiano with sabino.
 
This is interesting....how would you class my boy. He does have slight roaning in summer.

Sorry to hijack, have always wondered what he would be classed as!

Faracat and Cloball ill go out on a limb and disagree on mjcssjw' lovely boy and say I think its dun, looks like a splash of Highland in there, can see leg barring through the winter coat at the back of the knee, faint but reckon it could be there in the summer, dark down the shoulder and face, and a distinct look of Hipo in the face , Hope im not wrong, will hang my head in shame :o
 
i will let you disagree between yourselves lol, but i do have a dna testing thingy, but she isnt the colour shes supposed to be- well not yet anyway.
 
Starbar - Bay sabino (possibly has splash too).

Trying to work out the genotype (the genes that the horse has) from it's phenotype (the way the horse looks) is not foolproof. ;)
 
Quick question for all the colour experts.. I have a 4 year old currently presenting as strawberry roan. Mum was a grey highland and dad was a trakener (not a planned mating!). Is the 4 year old destined to grey out as mum is grey?
 
well there are lots of letters i don't understand it and its in the car, i might be a sight going to get it as i have the hands of a 100 year old so am wearing white cotton gloves with lashings of hand cream under, big thick fluffy socks and my big fluffy dressing gown!! But here goes - I will have another mouth full of wine before I set of for dutch courage lol

Were either of the parents a true Roan with the roan gene?

Does the foal have a chestnut head, legs, mane and tail?

It's probable that you actually have a rose grey at the moment (if a grey, will continue to grey out so wont stay rose forever).

i am back and brrrr its cold out there, her genotype is GGEeAACCppchchzz, colour TORDA, I think shes taking the mick! shes dapple grey!!
