my previous mare, it all laid to the left, my new mare, it all lays to right? is there a right or wrong way?
To the opposite side to which you mount is correct (the off side) ie to the right ... It'll be something to do with how you draw your sword or sommit... so unless you're into showing it doesn't matter...

It's traditionally the right side because as the knight approached the horse from the left (to mount), he wanted to get a clear view of its conformation and topline without the mane in the way. And the reason we mount from the left is so we don't chop our leg off with our sword.![]()
Ooo, I never knew that. Which side do I wear my sword then? I can't imagine mounting and not chopping my leg off whichever side it was but then I don't mount so much as scramble. That could be why.
Mane on the right though. Even though I've been doing it for years without knowing why![]()
