Does it matter which side the mane lays??

To the opposite side to which you mount is correct (the off side) ie to the right ... It'll be something to do with how you draw your sword or sommit... so unless you're into showing it doesn't matter...

To be "correct" it should lay on the off side - that is the right hand side as you are sitting on top...

Actually, it doesn't really matter which side it lays on, although some would beg to differ from my opinion...

It's traditionally the right side because as the knight approached the horse from the left (to mount), he wanted to get a clear view of its conformation and topline without the mane in the way. And the reason we mount from the left is so we don't chop our leg off with our sword. :D

traditionally to the right, and should always be plaited to the right, however at home i dont really mind... my boys is mostly to the left, but a bit all over the place! :p

Ooo, I never knew that. Which side do I wear my sword then? I can't imagine mounting and not chopping my leg off whichever side it was but then I don't mount so much as scramble. That could be why.

Mane on the right though. Even though I've been doing it for years without knowing why :)
