BD is a governing body whose job is to oversee the sport of dressage - sitting under the BEF umbrella and linked to the FEI. There is no need to have a competitor in the market - you can't have multiple governing bodies for exactly the same thing.

Yeah, I'm really not sure what this is offering that makes it a better option than BD. Better IT? Paperless scoring? Perhaps it will be massively cheaper, once they announce pricing?

The handicap system may make more sense when it's actually up and running but, at the moment, it seems a definite negative. "All riders have an equal chance to go home with a rosette regardless of who is in the class"? Frankly, if Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro are in my intro/level 1/whatever class, they SHOULD have a better chance of getting a rosette than me!

How is it going to be funded, surely the people who have set this up aren't going to work for nothing and I cant see competitors paying 2 lots of subs for themselves and for their horses. BD have a considerable amount of money behind them enabling them to pay for staff, IT and all the others things that go with running such an organisation. I think I shall stick with BD I dont have any problems with them there is plenty for all levels and if I need to know something I can either ring or e mail them and they come back to me.

Though a BD judge yesterday told us Lottie had missed out the counter canter in the Prelim7! But hopefully that was a non typical abberation.

Im all for new ways of supporting people to access competition and a progression structure so I have had a look at the website. But I have to admit I don’t get it.

I definitely want properly trained judges. There needs to be consistency in scoring or your 70% test might turn out to be more like 55% when you do other events and that wouldn’t be good. And you want genuinely helpful comments by people clear and consistent about what is expected.

I also really don’t understand the point of the handicap system. That doesn’t appeal at all. If I had a very favourable handicap and therefore beat people who were far better than me then that would not feel like an achievement at all. I’d actually be embarrassed I think.

Yeah at least BD have a fairly decent procedure for "feedback" re judging and a consistent system of progression and testing of their judges. Dressage is subjective and prone to human error by its nature so I do feel that this is important, tho you'll never be able to screen out all mistakes of course (i got the error of course bell rung at a champs by the C judge who was having a brain fart, it happens :p )

Dunno. Obviously DC's criteria might be quite strict, we won't know until someone has a crack at it ;) but there's a finite pool of people with the skills, knowledge and inclination to sit in a car or shed for hours at a time for £peanuts, coming up with remarks for hundreds of movements...

According to the site the DC judges will be unpaid - so not even £peanuts...

so... you don't get owt for nowt. I can't see BD judges swapping allegiance, they do at least get a tiny payment for judging affiliated shows. I can't see how this will sit within the unaff calendar. different venues? or trying to replace existing unaff shows run by show centres? round here they tend to use BD judges so presumably are giving something whether it's £ or payment in kind.

I'm fairly put off now I've seen that about the judging. I assumed they would be using decent judges. But its cost nothing to join and theres lots on local to me so I'll see what happens I think. I still think its interesting and a good idea, and a real shame if the judging lets it down.

I am all for other choice in the market. However, having their own judging system and training is where they are stepping over a boundary for me. I also am not 100 percent happy with all of their comments about volunteers and we are all doing this as volunteers etc. Those running this certainly will not be doing it for free and there are already links from judge training to DC etc.

I think that they are also controlling the online system for the centres so presumably that is another source of income.
