This is a bit of a fun thread and looking for inspiration!!

As some of you know I have a 4 year Welsh part bred who to be honest looks more cob than anything else, fairly well put together but nothing spectacular. I've shared before that he's had some issues in the school particulalry on the right rein canter, I've debated with myself whether to completely forget school work for now or to get the basics established ready for some down time over the winter. I toyed with the idea and decided to have weekly lessons at a local instructors yard to just establish the basics, that he can walk trot and canter confidently as he is a bit of a worrier by nature. So we now hack a few times a week, do a bit of groundwork and have one flatwork lesson a week.

Well to say he has come on leaps and bounds is an understatement. Had our third lesson this morning and we already have softening and collection, and the start of some decent canter work. So to get to the point he is proving to be rather trainable and willing, whilst we are planning to keep things very simple and relaxed this summer due to him being obviously very young still, my instructor thinks he may have a real aptitude for dressage as he's rather athletic and can be quite exuberant for his build!! So whilst we are long way off dressage competitions, it's something I had never even considered, so hopefully something to work towards for next spring/summer.

So looking for inspiration really! Any of you have one of these super duper turbo cobs with a talent for dressage I've heard about? Would absolutely love to see pictures and hear your stories of training your cob for dressage!!

A few necessary token pictures of Arlo, he even had a bath and a bit of a tidy up as was starting to look like a bit of a bog pony!

Ahhhh go on then... :D :D

14.2 Section D. Arrived as a project intended to bring on and sell, turned out to be completely feral and basically too niche to sell on easily... she doesn't like jumping, finds hacking quite scary, but LOVES learning and has really taken to dressage. She did her first prelim show 3 years ago this week, and is now at PSG :D We're hoping to have a go at inter 1 before Christmas.

She's got a really trainable brain and finds collection and sitting easy, but she has strong opinions about the amount of effort she should put in ;) it's been a little tricky to teach her to stay in front of the leg all the time and while she can extend well, if she's tired it's the first thing that goes. But she is quick witted and has learnt changes easily, we're learning 1 tempis together and having lots of fun. Never think that the native types can't do the fun stuff :D

Wow wow wow!! She looks super thank you for sharing!

So pleased things are going so well for you!

This is Florence aka the Diva coming reserve champion in Intro at a local dressage championships. We were hugely struggling with her in canter as she couldn’t breathe, so we got a bit stuck having to do Intro.
A month after these pictures were taken, she was given her diagnosis. She works novice/elementary level at home, depending on how her breathing is going.
Super trainable and gives 110%.

Thank you for sharing, she's beautiful! Nice to see a more traditional type out strutting her stuff too!!

We did it with a friend as Fiona and her grey as donkey ;). I made him wear a bow tie and cufflinks that day too :eek3:

So far he hasn't had the vet out this week (or if he has Mum just hasn't told me) so that seems like progress after last week! :D

Fwiw I think your chap would do a lovely test :). Frank was still improving into his 20s- I'd have loved another 10 years once I'd worked out what we were doing :D

I'm glad he's currently keeping out of trouble, I hope it continues!!

Well I'm hoping we'll have many years ahead to learn together!

Why not just enjoy him and see how far you and he can take each other? There is deadly serious dressage, and there is taking dressage seriously (IYKWIM). Cobs are super little horses that can do as much as they can, but probably aren't going to cause people at the top of the "serious" sports too many sleepless nights....

That's the plan Cortez, I know he's not going to set the dressage world on fire - will just be a joy to work with him and see how far we can go. I've never competed in my life it's just exciting to think I finally have a horse I may have the opportunity to get out doing stuff with.
