Just a musing but do most of you who do dressage as a sole discipline, do you use your dressage saddle all the time - so for hacking? Have only recently come into the world of dressage saddle owning and had been mixing and matching. Saddler said it was a good idea. However, now love the dressage saddle so much don't like riding in the GP. Just wondered what others do?

Well I always use the dressage saddle for schooling and the odd time for a slow hack, but the gp or jump saddle for jumping, fast work etc.
My mum is the one who generally hacks her and she always uses the gp.

Should probably get rid of the jump saddle as we hardly ever use it, much prefer the gp than it but as it was a bargain it has stayed :D.

Personally I don't use my dressage saddle for hacking. I find it comfortable (very) for schooling, but not for 2 hour hacks. it rubs me up the wrong way!
I came to dressage via eventing so have always had a jumping saddle as well as dressage. I use my jumping saddle for hacking, unless it's just a quick scoot up the woods after schooling etc.

I used to ride all the time in my dressage saddle (unless we were specifically jumping). Quite often we'd pop a log or two out hacking (in the dressage saddle), it was incredibly comfortable. Sadly my boy is no longer with us, and his saddle doesn't fit G, for whom I only have a GP at the moment.

When I had two saddles for my mare I always hacked in my dressage saddle - but then I do struggle finding a saddle that is comfortable for me and horse, and I think the dressage saddle was always the better bet.

I've now owned up to the fact that I don't do enough jumping to warrant a jump saddle and sold it ;)

Yep, i ride in the dressage saddle all the time :) find it very comfy for hacking, and have jumped in it as well, no issues :)

I would use the jump saddle if we were planning a fast hack, or going on a xc ride etc :)

I find both saddles very comfy though, they are both ideals :)

I hack up to/over 15 miles in my dressage saddle, over 5hr rides, have done XC schooling in it, jumping, go galloping in it etc! I feel lucky though it's the comfiest thing ever! :P I only own the 1 saddle so no other option at the sec anyway!

Now just hack in the WOW dressage saddle, although have sabre GP.

The dressage one is incredibly comfy - I find! The sabre is lovely too, but think I enjoy the longer leg position, meaning a more relaxed ankle for a decent hack.

Maybe if the horse was more of a monster whilst cantering etc and was inclined to throw a huge buck I might prefer a GP. ? Or if it was defo going to be a fast paced hack etc. I now find though I struggle to get my stirrups shorter for jumping and it feels really precarious having mega short leathers (when told to by an instructor for jumping!) and try and get away with them as long as I can!

Dressage saddle for everything on my mate I have a selection of saddles for cobbo but use dressage saddle for hacking - gp comes out only for jumping and farm
Rides etc. he also has a suede showing saddle that is only used in the show ring...

I'm used to having a dressage, GP and a jumping saddle. For the past 5 months or so I've only had a dressage saddle. I do hack and jump in it - it's fine, but I prefer to be able to whack my stirrups up and go for a blast.

And I am very much looking forward of doing just that tomorrow, if I am very lucky.

I was borrowing a (old) GP when I first bought my horse. I have since bought her a dressage saddle in January and I won't ride in the GP again (to be fair it is a bit on the older side) but the dressage saddle (Kieffer) is just so so comfortable I ride in that for hacking as well.

I will probably buy an event/jump saddle for faster hacks/rides on the moors and obviously if we decide to do any jumping/hunter trials but i doubt I will buy a 'GP.'

I have dressage, GP and jumping saddles. Very rarely use the GP nowadays. Will sometimes do fast work in dressage saddle if I've been schooling first or to mooch around fields after schooling but jump saddle is so comfy use it now for hacking and obviously jumping so think I'm going to get rid of the GP.
