Early June weekend plans :D

The weather is crazy! Gone from a 24+ degree sunny weekend to 8 degree daytime temps and hail storms within 5 days!

We are due 12 hours of heavy rain overnight so everyone is in and very happy about it they are too!

I know!!! 4 seasons in one day today Wheels! We’ve brought all ours in tonight. 17yo mare danced up the road like a prat while my friend brought her 4yo mare behind, not a care in the world.

I took this little bugger out for a ride today. The one on the left with the evil look in its eye. It's lame behind and it damn near killed me. I've renamed it Genghis Can't...

The one on the right had a day off. It's been alternating between quiet, calm and sunny, and the apocalypse of rain, hail and wind today. I rode both ponies and the malevolent torturer, so I'm quite happy for thunder thighs to have a day off!

I’m taking my friend’s horse to a working hunter/ XC clinic tomorrow. I haven’t ridden her since January, popped on a neighbour’s horse for ten mins the other day but that’s all I’ve done in months! I’m sure it will be fine!
then home to keep working on getting new 3yo to lift her feet. First farrier trip we managed fronts, but her hinds are starting to split and I suspect she’s tender, so I’m getting him back earlier than I would’ve liked (in terms of training her to lift and stand).

MP you could always slip a random foal picture in here every now and then ? I’m sure no one would protest!

I’ll be preparing a nice warm stable for new little Bella, who will be arriving late Monday. Can’t wait to settle her in with my little herd ?

Have a good weekend all!

Gorgeous girl, did you decide on a new name, Northern?
Malachy had 3 hrs of surgery to cut grass seeds out of his mouth on Thursday :( we have horrid barley grass which we are trying to get rid of. So obviously nothing for him for a few weeks. Might walk him in hand with the dogs again. He is supposed to be having chlorrhex rinses and honey applied which is NOT going well!

Well the physio said yesterday that she wants the Appy referred back to the vet - physio work isn't holding and she now seems lame front right. I was supposed to ride the micro cob after the physio visit but the wind had got up and we were having dust storms - the rain in the past 2 days has completely missed us.

So micro cob can be ridden today. So far (touches wood, crossed fingers....) this one still has 4 working legs. Really green, can't bend left and gets herself in a right tizz if she doesn't understand what you want - but I'm really enjoying her! I just have to remember the ground is very close when I get off....

I think she’ll stay Bella, perhaps she’ll stay sound then ?
Poor Malachy, can you get your hands on some hexarinse?

Haha good plan!
Ooh, that looks better, sounds like more palatable. I'm going to just sedate him to do it tomorrow, I didn't like how head shy he got so quickly. Am already on damage control counterconditioning mouth touching with carrots, don't want a head shy horse. Going to smear some raw honey on too.

Had a nice lesson this morning! All my bad habits are fully back in action but didn't make a complete tit of myself in front of a new instructor so happy enough! Pony was a lovely boy and gave me such an easy ride which my weak noodle legs appreciated.

OH came with me as I am a still new-ish driver and hadn't done the route before and he had a significantly worse morning than me ? you'd think I'd had a two month break from the car instead of riding.

Had our first session in the school for almost a year yesterday, eyes on stalks to start with but settled down after we’d had a trot and did some nice work. Hack round the block this morning and now having his feet trimmed, good few days!

Want to cry. Boggle above fetlock joint is a bit swollen and very hot. Cold hose, bute until Monday :(

On injured leg too.

Sounds like a productive morning! You’re braver than me, the weather put me off riding today haha. I’m local-ish to you (not far from Lisburn).

Michen, everything crossed for Boggle, hope it is just a tweak & nothing serious x

Oh cool! We were dry and quiet for a very lucky 40 mins then it started lashing on the way back to Belfast so I don't blame you for not risking it!

Sending good vibes to Boggle :(

No riding for me yet either, weather is awful. Hoping it will clear up a bit late afternoon but we will see

Fingers crossed that it’s a minor problem for Boggle Michen :(. How do you think he could have done it? Iirc he’s not on full turnout yet?

I'm still getting to know Toby. He is far greener than I expected/wanted. If he has been under saddle for 18 months I'll eat my hat. But I can tell he has the makings of a very lovely horse.

I am frustrated with myself because I keep having flashbacks to Amber chucking me off while I am riding Toby. Which is very disconcerting! All Toby has to do is a baby-pony leg splay halt to nosy at something or a head up 'what's that' snort and I imagine him launching into orbit. Then feel on the verge of a panic attack and tears. Not what I expected at all as I felt very happy back on Amber. I had wondered if the accident would have affected me and was delighted that the answer seemed to be no. But instead of being afraid on the wild orange beast who DID throw me off, I am afraid on the calm, kind horse who hasn't yet put a foot wrong. The brain is a very weird organ!! I know it's just neural circuitry trying to tell me I'm in danger and it will go away if I keep having successful rides - replaced by new circuits. But in the meantime I am riding like a lemon and wanting to just give up riding or just pootle about on Dolly instead. I won';t though. I know there is a way back to confidence and am determined to get there in the end. Gah - nerves! I used to be quite bold

In slightly more positive news, I managed to jump Dolly! I even strung a few fences together. They were up at about 60cm which looked like mountains to me but it's a start. :p

Confidence is a funny old thing AE! But I am sure toby will help you :)

I got to ride, the rain finally cleared at about 4.30 so jumped on for a quick spin and so glad I did as M was really on top form! He was so soft and light one of those rides where you dont want to get off but decided to keep it short as a reward.

Jealous of everyone's rain, we had a light shower earlier but nothing more in the forecast.

Went to the beach this morning, in glorious sunshine which had turned overcast by the time we were back so had the best of the day. Nelson was incredibly well behaved, as ever, first time on the lorry for almost 2 years so was chuffed that he went straight on.

Sasspants :p

I STILL haven't ridden any of mine, Salty has been a bit under the weather yesterday afternoon and then again today lunchtime so I've not wanted to leave her particularly. Today we had a spendy weekend vet visit to check her over as it just seemed to not be resolving. Vital signs all good but her heart rate was a bit raised and she had a grumbly belly so she has had some buscopan and bute to try and settle things down. She looks bright and happy again tonight so hopefully it's just one of those things. Hera couldn't care less!
