Easter Weekend Plans

Busy weekend all round!

Yesterday i took Ruby for her first solo hack off the yard which involves going down a busy road, across a motor way bridge round a few quiet housing estate roads then back over the m'way bridge, and down the busy road, thinking at 9am on bank holidayFriday i would be quiet . . . it was not . . . we met tonnes of cars, lorries, white vans, even loud vintage kit cars! But she was super, didn't spook or worry about anything, marched out the whole way like a pro!

Then Non-horsey (doesn't happen often!) I went with my parents and god parents out on Dads boat to the IOW for lunch - weather was just gorgeous, but i'm definitely a dry land bird!

Today i have a jump lesson at the yard, but i've woken up with a bad back, its absolute agony, i just sneezed and thought i was going to black out, no idea what i've done so dosed up on super strength Ibuprofen and deep heat spray

Tomorrow going to head back to Tweseldown for another clinic with Mark Corbett, praying the weather will behave and we don't have quite such a dramatic time as last time!

Then will just go for quiet hack/ day off monday!

Everyone sounds very busy!

FW, I can't believe the saddle issue is still ongoing . It's absolutely ridiculous.

Nice jumping photo JFTD, and D is looking good vallin (well, apart from pink fences ).

A very boring and quiet weekend for us. We hacked yesterday and I probably won't be doing anything else until it stops raining. Ho hum, maybe one day I'll have a competition report .

Today's XC session was a bit disappointing, though this time not because of D. There were 5 of us in the session with horses jumping from 70cm up to 100cm, however every exercise was aimed at the bottom end with no challenge for those of us jumping larger heights or more technical courses. Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting every exercise to be massively differentiated but a slightly trickier line or larger jump would have been nice. No-hum, at least I've reminded myself why I don't do group clinics and D behaved herself.

JFDT the OH somehow managed to get lost around the course so no pics currently!

FW's saddle sitch is insane. Truly ridiculous. And has totally put me off the company involved for sure! (And I'm right in their target market too...)

What I learned today is:

1) Cleaning your entire house is boring but the end result is good.

2) the spring grass effect, has nothing to do with grass and can only be to do with daylight or temperature because Daisy doesn't eat grass at all ever, and is jumping out of her skin just now.

3) when Daisy is in this state of mind, riding and leading from her is not an enjoyable process.

4) officially my left leg is completely inconsequential as far as D is concerned and her left shoulder can do WHATEVER IT LIKES, mainly but not restricted to to barging into Peaches.

5) riding with a schooling whip in my right land laid on her left shoulder (because there's a crazy Welsh cob in my left hand) solves issue 4 however it hurts and Peaches (crazy Welsh cob) does not like it being there.

6) it does not matter how fast Daisy canters, or how much I click, tug, say canter, attempt to whack with schooling whip or anything else, Peaches can trot faster. 10km of mainly trot and canter depending who you are, will not even take the edge off either of them.

7) this means I now have a sore left shoulder, sore left leg and a sore throat. Slightly wheezy and glad to be back inside where I am looking at the last few cleaning jobs I need to do tonight and then comparing them to my bed.

Good news is I'm going SJ with Peaches tomorrow. Yay what a great idea 🙄🙈

If I cluck at Dae, he'll canter, but he's too fast for F, so always ends up doing his ridiculous trot instead. I don't tow the other way as F hates it. A 10k before jumping will warm her up nicely

In other video news, I've just posted one of Dae on fb, and (more importantly) I have retrieved my camcorder to film D on Monday. Just so there's videographic record of me being towed around the course while projectile vomming and sobbing into his mane...

Had a day out with friends doing v touristy things today which was good fun.

Got my horsey fix in yesterday enjoying the fab weather and squillions of jumps out at Milton Keynes eventing. The jumps look titchy though! First time xc here without an instructor. We did fine, he jumped everything but he felt a bit sticky at times and I didn't ride him v purposefully, so next time I'll book a lesson/clinic to keep us on track. But had a really lovely day out and he wasn't a total fidget when we got there, which is an improvement!

Do you know, for years I'd look at the weekend plans thread and wish I had something to post, and now I seem to be starting them every week

Tomorrow we're out for a training day, an hour of flat and and an hour of jumping, should be good fun. Will hack on Saturday and Sunday we have anThe SJ clinic. At 8am. After the clocks go forward :eek3:

The forecast for Monday is horrific, so I think I might give G the day off, but if it improves we'll go to Coombelands for their UA showjumping - I will take him into the 80 and my friend will take him into the 90. If he's good for me, she'll give him a lovely round and if he's naughty for me, she'll make sure he jumps well for her, she's a super rider. After last weekend, I've asked her to take him to a couple of shows for me to get him back into the swing of competing - apart from dressage he hasn't really done any competing since I got him 4.5 years ago so he's probably just as nervous as I am!

We hacked this morning, on our own for the first time in ages, and he was a really good chap.

My weekend is a fly by,it will fly by like any other weekend nothing special, no card from hubby or flowers or chocolate. I was Working yesterday ,today tomorrow and Monday and carrying on working. There is No such thing as a day off on any bank holiday. Day. So Easter is nothing and will fly by like any other boring day working lol


The disadvantages of being a yard owner, people say did I have a nice Easter I say whoosh it flew by without me noticing

Not bad actually, it's only just opened so not chrpurned up. Tiny bit wet in places but didnt Impact any of the jumps. They've got loads out so plenty to jump, although I didn't pay much attention to the bigger stuff. As you can tell haha.

Saddle issue is not what I expected that's for sure. Hopefully have an answer on Tuesday as to what will be done but that's a further 3.5 weeks with no usable saddle at the start of the season! Got a very very fit and ready to go galloping cob and I am riding her in a bareback pad with utterly no chance to compete at all.

Luckily I have a stand in who does have a saddle:

Two double clears with excellent behaviour from Peaches all day gave us two wins on the same day (never had that in my life!) and both classes we entered (60 and 70cms). Good day to win as there were Easter egg prizes and we got two

Meanwhile, my arena eventing outing - Dae's first competitive outing ever, my first competitive jumping outing in years, carefully selected for appropriate nature (quiet, good venue, safe surface, local, small etc) - was cancelled due to the ridiculous weather this morning. One hour - one single hour - after it should've started and the wind has gone and it's all blue skies. God knows when another suitable competition will come along and I'll be able to get him out. I can't even jump at home now it's nice, because the ground's saturated...

I'm going to cry in a corner.

Millie had a super lesson this morning - the penny has finally dropped and we are getting clean changes. At long last. Feeling really motivated and hatching a plan for another go at advanced medium after our 3 day dressage bootcamp next month.

Thanks. It was absolutely the right decision this morning, but looking at the weather now, it's so infuriating.

I'm mostly gutted as I wanted to have it "over with" by now so we could get on and jump properly next time - this was more of a trial run to make sure he didn't lose his brains with the atmosphere / people / horses / distractions and could still concentrate on a course - hence why I picked somewhere quiet/tiny etc. Gah. Britain sucks!

I survived both my outings. Really pleased with how he went. Was a little green on Saturday, halted at x on the first centre line when he saw the judge at C, his eyes nearly fell out of his head :eek3:, he's been to the venue before to school but there was no one sat behind a table then.
Managed to tip toe up to C and then the penny dropped and apart from giving the horse eating flowers at K a good look (all the flowers at the other markers were fine, just K :rolleyes3 he was fine.
Came last but I got him round and everything happened pretty much where it should and under control so was happy for our first time out
considering he spent the first couple of months with me trying to nap to the gate, planting, reversing, standing on back legs and doing 0-60mph spooks at nothing to see if I really did mean what I was asking. I came close to selling him several times.

Sunday we went to a venue that neither of us had been to and he was a total star. Got straight on, took him in the warm up and he relaxed, focussed and worked. Took him down to the arena for our test. He goggled at the judges box, considered napping to the warm up, and then switched on and went for me. Got 8s for our trot work and 7.5 for rht canter, he dropped me for the second canter so we were late getting it otherwise we would have won our section :redface3:. Ended up on 65.7% and a yellow frilly (our first) with highest collectives in the class. Lots to work on but over the moon with him.
Back to the same venue next Saturday to have a go at BD My Quest.

Feel your pain. I get all excited when spring arrives and think it's all blue skies, then I'm v quickly reminded how unpredictable the weather is and that horsey plans are easily scuppered. Before,you know it, the ground will be too hard!

Well done to FW too, mPeaches is turning into a little superstar, must be great to see all your hard work paying off in spades!

My quiet hacking plan for today went t*ts up when D and I got attacked by a dog and I ended up eating dirt whilst she bolted in the direction of the road with the dog trying to bite her fetlocks. I hate hate hate irresponsible dog owners who shouldn't even be on the sodding private land - D could very easily have killed the dog and both of us could have ended up seriously injured.

Thankfully my yard owner and and fellow liveries came to my aid and after my YO made the owner cry I don't think we'll see them again. (I should clarify that she merely pointed out the facts and that there was no violence/threats of involved)

Jeez that's grim. We get a lot of dog walkers round us, most are v considerate but I do get nervous when they don't put their dog on a lead or call it back, and it comes over to the horses. The dog owner might feel confident of their dog but they don't know how the horses will react.

No I know, she's fine with dogs - that's completely reasonable given its behaviour. Poor animal shouldn't be allowed to get itself in that sort of position.

That's what my mother said, I did very pointedly say to the dog owner as I was chasing after my horse that if D was injured I'd be tracking her down and handing her the vet bill. Think I might have scared her a bit...apparently you could hear my teacher voice from the yard
