Starting the thread a bit early, because my plans have been cancelled so I want to know what everyone else is up to!

I was meant to be heading off to Kelsall farm ride with some friends but Blue's arthritis has flared up so I'm not going. She's only showing 1/10th lame on her off hind, but it's a long journey and hard work once we're there, so I'm not putting her through it, even though I'm sure she'd enjoy herself. She's getting her hocks injected at home next week, then spending an extra month on the winter fields to lessen the risk of lami, while the other horses graze the summer fields down a bit. It's been nearly a year since her last shot, so I already had it in the back of my mind that we'd need to treat again soon. It's just sod's law it would really show up when I had actual plans, damn it!

Nothing much special here, more of the same for Kira...more poo picking for me ?

Fencing the corner of the oldies field which has been looking dodgy for a while. Some new posts and wire to go in, a load of quickthorn to rip out. OH has threatened to make me drive the digger. I think not. he reckons he will use it to set the field shelter the right way up again. Hope it survives ?

I will come and drive the digger! I've always wanted to drive a digger!

That's a shame about Blue Pippity - horses do have a great knack for timing!! On the digger topic, I had a go on one when we were digging the foundations for my house extension last year. I managed to do no damage but would have a way to go to be able to dig anything accurate!!

Can I sneak in a report from our trip out yesterday? Dead chuffed - Danny was immaculately behaved from start to finish, I think he was happy to be out. I'll just link to the FB report and vid to save space!

We were supposed to be hiring an indoor tomorrow but clearly that's off the table now :( I've asked if we can hire the outdoor instead so will see what they say. It's a venue with one of each and we were supposed to be competing there on 11 April but presumably they'll have to cancel - I can't imagine BD allowing a warm-up on grass!

Other than that, a friend is coming over on Saturday for some pony time as she's been a bit deprived during lockdown. Will probably do some hacking / schooling stuff and then a bbq with friends on Sunday - yippee!

But most exciting...I plan to get back on Chilli!! Woohoo!

Lovely test J1ffy, I'm very jealous! I'm gagging to get out and compete, I was due to BD at Onley next Friday but I've just had a cancellation email so I might see if there is anywhere offering arena hire outdoors so we can get out.

Not masses planned for the Easter weekend, we have a lesson with Super-Instructor tomorrow and we are going over to her which will be a nice change of scene.

I did have high hopes for good weather and a family bbq but I'm not sure that's going to happen, the weather looks to be taking a turn for the worse again.

He looks lovely Jiffy, nice springy rhythmic paces.
You might be ok, lots of places seem to be offering warm up on grass. I had seen warm up outdoors and test indoors as it was apparently ok if its just you and the judge, although that might have changed again ?
I wonder what theyd make of my old work - we had huge barn doors which we would open and let the judge drive up to A.
Anyone who thinks an indoor is truly "inside" should try doing 8 hours in one in the middle of winter or a blazing hot day in summer.
Good luck with the digger MP - I can manage a tractor but thats about as much as I would want to do!
Hope Blue's hocks settle down, shame to miss your ride out but better to notice early and act than her injure herself.
Weve got a jump lesson Saturday morning, and boxing out to hack on Monday

Pippity I feel your pain, I wonder how many others will have horses will have managed a sick note for this weekend after feeling amazing for the last few months.

I'm lucky that my other horse is still bouncing around enthusiastically (*touches all wood frantically*) and he can take both of their activities over the weekend. So I'm off to an arena hire and a clinic. Can't wait.

Jiffy Danny is looking great, hope you enjoy your ride on Chilli. Roxy hope the lesson goes well and MP good luck with the digger!

Pippity what a shame. They do time it well don't they. I love Kelsall so I hope you get out there soon.
J1ffy what a fab test! Ive not seen any wasps yet this year.

Katie is U18s training at Somerford on the 80 acres with Dag Albert. She's not had him before so it's always interesting to see what a new instructor does/says. She is also at Somerford again on Easter Monday to help prepare her for the season as her first event is next weekend.

Toby is just hacking till after he's seen the vet/osteo.

Happy Easter everyone.

Mostly hacking this weekend I think. Layla (my 2 year old daughter) is going to pony club on Monday for the first time with her 4 year old pony. Whether I will get her to actual get on when we get there is a completely different story but it will be nice for her to see other kids almost her age doing the same. My horse is going to pony club camp next Wednesday to Friday with a friend too.

Ooo, lovely test Jiffy, D is looking great.

Sorry Blue is a bit off Pip

I'm loathed to say anything in case she chucks in a sicknote, but I have booked into an arena eventing clinic on Saturday ?. Plan is to take Arty, and Pebbles is probably just about at the level of an 'in case of desperation' backup.

Other than that it will mainly be hacking for fitness. Pebbles is starting to get a more muscular shape to her bum now (see below), aiming to shake off the little fatty pony stigma, meanwhile Arty has gone full racing snake on me and looks more like she belongs on a racetrack than in a dressage arena, so she's on double rations. The fun of mixed needs horses!

Busy one here- fun ride Saturday morning (I am really not convinced by the 'fun' part of the name but I'm borrowing back my old little event pony who has promised to look after me) Saturday PM Elana goes showjumping with the aim of not having a meltdown as she is eventing on Tuesday ? We went and jumped round a course on Monday which went well until she had a nervous breakdown about the final fence- a little white filler that was clearly the devil itself. Luckily she redeemed herself by being awesome xc schooling afterwards
The 4yr olds have their Aunty coming to visit to help do a couple of short sessions in the arena- Nova is probably ready for a little canter and the mule needs 'help' to go on the left rein. I'm hoping that will help progress them both to the next level so I can achieve a bit more when I ride them on my own.

I know that you are very experienced and have a handle on it all but I saw that Warwick Schiller had some videos working with mules so thought it might interest you. He was posting on his fb page about some of the training differences between mules and horses and how to work with "mule mentality".

Thanks, a friend pointed me in their direction I've been watching a bit and it does make sense. She's a very sweet little thing who does really want to please, but she gets herself into a pattern of behaviour that I just need a well-timed hand to help me break! She is certainly a lot more challenging to train than the horse baby, but there is no malice in her

Horse still has a bump on his face. Maybe he's about to hatch another horse out of it, I don't know. He's on meds, and the vet said some sort of jaw infection (which makes little sense to me, but I suppose the lump is sort of on the upper jaw bone?). Bump is not getting smaller, but is a bit softer. If it doesn't resolve with meds by Tuesday (after Easter holidays) I imagine we will drive to the clinic.

He seems totally not bothered by it and the vet approved light riding so we've been hacking and doing basic light work in the school. Which is what we will do this weekend.

The possibility of a competition looks bleak (Corona) which makes me so sad as I thought we'd finally get out more this year. So I'll have to live vicariously.

Hope you all have a nice Easter ?

Looking good Jiffy and exciting about Chilli, plans to attend breed show this year?

Good luck everyone else out and about!

Baby Spanish's wound is looking great and should have minimal scarring.

Big Spanish potatoes foot was a puncture wound and has gone a bit squishy so is now on antibiotics.

Unfortunately my poor other horse suffered a gastrosplenic ligament entrapment and had to have emergency surgery. Fingers crossed for him.

After 10 years without injuries I am wondering what I've done to piss the horse gods off ?.

Usual hacking etc, a long one planned for Saturday I think.
Friend coming over Sunday to ride B again to escort me out on G Fuzzy who is new to all this stuff.
In between, I'll do a few practice loading and maybe a short drive out with G Fuzzy, just so I'm happy that she's happy in my box as she's only trailered or huge box to date.

Gosh yours are in the wars!! I hope they all get better soon, glad to hear baby Spanish is on the mend.

I'm really not into showing so I doubt we'll be at the breed show! I mostly plan to just potter about and get him seeing a bit of the world around the yard :)

Deza should be at her first ever fun ride at Peover on Saturday, but I'm not going if it's snowing! I think she'll behave fine, but first one is always a risk and I'll be wearing my L plates to let everyone know she might be unpredictable.

Ludo had a lesson yesterday where he was bent and not going forwards very well. I don't know if he has tweaked something, he has a scab on the outside of each hock which was new yesterday. The quarters to the right was always his go-to at 4, I weakened him by letting him get vitamin E deficient in February, and he has suddenly got more mature and bulky, and one way or another he doesn't seem able to handle it. He seems sound but he isn't "right". I have a vet-chiro coming soon to give him a once over. Meanwhile this weekend will be more gentle, steady fittening work at home, if the weather allows.
