Easter weekend plans

Gosh yours are in the wars!! I hope they all get better soon, glad to hear baby Spanish is on the mend.

I'm really not into showing so I doubt we'll be at the breed show! I mostly plan to just potter about and get him seeing a bit of the world around the yard :)
I was going to go for the dressage but not sure now. If I can get the baby out and about I might take her for showing but that depends how the leg goes!

I'll take a look at the schedule when it's out - I suspect it would all be a bit busy for a green 4yo! Mind you, he's such a dude that he's probably just take it all in his stride. We'll probably target a wobbly Prelim at some point but I doubt I'll affiliate him this year.
Fingers crossed for your baby's leg and that the scaring heals up.

Unfortunately my poor other horse suffered a gastrosplenic ligament entrapment and had to have emergency surgery. Fingers crossed for him.

After 10 years without injuries I am wondering what I've done to piss the horse gods off ?.

Oh my goodness, that sounds horrific! ?your luck changes now

We did a 10 mile loop around a few of the beaches yesterday, with looooots of cliff top cantering, so she had today off.

Tomorrow we’re schooling to try and get forwards *and* relaxed - normally she only does one or the other but not both ?. Saturday we’ll do a fast hack over the common and then Sunday just a quick spin round the block. I have tentatively pencilled in a jump school for Monday but it’s the first time she’ll have jumped in nearly 5 years so we’ll see how that goes ?.

I hardly dare write for fear of something going awry but Alw and I are off for an actual arena session - a lesson and all!! :) :) I can't wait to see my instructor again, having not seen her for 5 months. Alw is a good 10-15 miles brisk hacking fit and cantering well for stretches now but she is not arena fit so it will be gentle for both of our sakes. I am really glad that I have been able to do a good 12 weeks of base fittening work up our hills; bless Alw, she could still do with losing a bit of weight but she is not on the grass yet, her muzzle is on order and she is working well when she is out. In the next few weeks if it is possible I will need to think about what she really enjoys doing; flatwork or jumping though she will do a bit of each in any case. I had thought I might galvanize myself to get out to do some dressage but madam will need to be on board for that too so for a few weeks I am hoping I can now start to ask a few more questions to see how she feels about all that. :) I can't afford to event and love jumping when it goes well but still quite attracted to civilised stuff - if I have a willing partner in crime of course!! In any case there is a great deal of basic work to be done - I am actually turning my head from that reality and imagining the dizzy heights of early lateral work to keep me encouraged...

Gorgeous horse, gorgeous view. :) Happy times.

Finally out out! Running HC at a driving equivalent of combined training with XC schooling after. HC as going to do the new out this year FEI 3* test. Entry is in collected canter and we’ve not had shoulder in during a driven test before either so should be educational.

I am so fascinated by this ?

Well, we went to a pole/grid work clinic today, which was run in the outdoor arena ? soon got warm though ? bonus was the cafe was open for takeaway meals too so actually had lunch out!!!!
He’ll have a day off tomorrow then a lesson on Saturday to practice for........... (drumroll).....................my first dressage test in nearly 11 years on Sunday ???? !!
So good to be going places again but decided not to take newbie youngster to an inhand show on Monday. I don’t think it will be low key enough for a first outing (qualifier for something and everyone wanting to get out and do things!!)

DF that looks amazing. Where are you?
Swansea! That’s Pwll Du bay, the tide isn’t normally that low but we’ve got a great route that goes from the bay all the way to the top of the cliffs, and the top of the cliffs give a good 2 mile canter stretch (depending on walkers and dogs!) all the way to another beach that’s further on :). I’m very lucky!

Just got a text confirming my first lesson since December 23rd on Saturday morning. To say I am BUZZING would be a hefty understatement.

And I'm off work so with an extra day at the sanctuary on Monday to help out with the dentist being there it is shaping up to be a lovely long weekend indeed!

Usual hacking etc, a long one planned for Saturday I think.
Friend coming over Sunday to ride B again to escort me out on G Fuzzy who is new to all this stuff.
In between, I'll do a few practice loading and maybe a short drive out with G Fuzzy, just so I'm happy that she's happy in my box as she's only trailered or huge box to date.

Yay G Fuzzy! Did her journey to you go okay? Have you got pics? :D

Great to hear people's plans being able get out and about again although sorry to hear about Blue, Pippity. Also such a shame about the indoor arenas decision - makes no sense to me at all.

I'm hoping it won't be too much longer until I can contribute some actual riding weekend plans again! I had a great lesson at RS on Tuesday and two more booked next week. Depending on how those go then looking to take up an offer to ride a friend's horse (probably would be totally fine to do now but promised myself to take my time) - if that goes well perhaps I can start regular hacking again. My hacking buddy is about to lose their other hacking partner so if I can get on with a new steed she'll have someone to hack out with again :D

Yes, arrived mid Tuesday morning, rather smaller than I'd been allowed to understand, makes B Fuzzy look tall lol. Have ridden her yesterday and today, just short hack out, v forwards going.
I'm sure you'll be having riding coming out of your ears soon! X

Oh woops on the height! Sounds like she's getting off to a good start with you though :)

I think my plan to deliberately make myself miss riding has worked rather well so I went for it with the lesson booking, then when the first one this week went well it was a huge relief that riding is something I can actually still do (and with no nerves)!

Chilled day in the field for my boy today xx delamere trip to hack out tommorow and then Somerford Saturday xxx enjoying 4 days off xxx hopefully catch up on some sleep one day ????

It is such bliss to be doing stuff!!
Busy day tomorrow - xc schooling one in the morning then off to combined training on another in the afternoon.
Hacking for 3 on Saturday, xc schooling for one on Sunday and then an emergency back up of Sjing on Monday if needed for the one going to combined training tomorrow as sometimes she has a meltdown and cannot cope with busy atmosphere.

Urgh. Something is wrong with Bear. We’ve improved the angles in his feet and I’m still not happy with the left canter. I can “make” him canter on the left lead by flicking him with the lunge whip where he does a clean change but the canter itself is just not as good. Hurried behind. Had vet out and he agrees and we can see a very mild right hind lameness which we put down to the foot balance issue but is now ongoing.

Given he’s not been cantering left happily for a while (I put it down to a baby thing) I want to work it out. We blocked the sacroiliac (a likely contender with foot balance being out) and no change. Suspensory and no change.

Vet doesn’t think we will get very far given it’s so minor with nerve blocks, so we are going to work hard and then try again end of next week. I want to rule out stifle and hock particularly after he did have a minor kick to the area about 3 weeks before it all started (an IHW had a similar experience with a young horse being kicked).

Frustrating, so minor.. and I would chuck him in field and ignore for a month but I think given how persistent it is (if the lack of left canter is relevant which it must be.. this has been going on near on 2 months ish now I think) despite him being in really quite light work we need to try and work out what it is in order to figure out if it needs treating.

Horses eh. But at least Bog is on top form so he’s giving me a break, for now ?

Bon weekend all!!

Sorry about Bear ? I feel invested in Bog and Bear ? this is a genuine question but how do they block sacroiliac?? My lad had ultrasounds on SI to diagnose. His steroid injection to the area didn’t work but vet said it’s 50/50 chance of getting it into the right area as so deep. Are you thinking of scintigraphy? Really is frustrating when you just know there’s something. Glad Bog is on form ??

Ummm not sure exactly but it was a big needle and it was only one side we blocked.

I am not thinking of scintigraphy yet, at least my vet doesn’t think it would be helpful at this stage. I’d prefer to try and isolate it with blocks and if that’s not successful I’ll lob him out for a couple of months and see.

It’s minor and intermittent and difficult because he’s feeling great out hacking and only improves in the school bar that left canter. It could even be something soft tissue that we may never find ?‍♀️.

It could even be nothing, the left canter may be a baby balance strength thing. But it seems too coincidental now.

Have you popped him on bute for a week to see if it makes a difference? Often my preferred way of trying to narrow options when blocks are not quite coming up with pinning stuff down. It’s especially useful with a specific ridden issue like you have and L canter. If that miraculously gets resolved you know to keep digging.

Thats a good idea actually. I’m not sure why my vet and I didn’t discuss that. Maybe he feels it’s not always conclusive enough? I think because there is an actual lameness, even if it made him go sound i would still want to know what it is

I really suspect that whatever we block we would still not get left canter as it’s such a habit now.

I’ll chat with my vet about that on Tuesday though, thanks. Interestingly he looks great on a hard trot circle ??‍♀️

When he does get the left lead, does he canter a bit haunches in or anything like that?
