Packing Ludo's suitcase on Saturday and moving on Sunday. It will be a very big change for all of us. I just hope I'm right in thinking he's the sort of horse who's going to love being in a busy place!

All being well, farm ride "free" (no additional charge, covered in the £££ livery) on Monday.
.
Good luck! Moving is always nerve wracking bit more so I think when you've been in one place for so long!

I'm sorry, I couldn't 'like' your post @Michen, hope you are well soon. I know a lot of people with Covid like symptoms but testing negative too, so either there is a funny bug going round or the tests aren't that great. Look after yourself.

I am having a quieter weekend. Took baby horse on an unexpectedly long ride on Wednesday, he was a bit spring grass fresh so we went further that I anticipated as I decided that today was the day he would learn the lesson called, "The day may be long!"

Yesterday, I had planned a shorter one, which we did, but he was a lot more tired that I thought. I'm talking, wanting to get off and push tired. Bless him. He was sound, and I suspect it could have also been that he had field time before he was ridden, whereas normally it is after. His tummy was noticeably stretched when I saddled up!

Anyway, we went on a ride through the village, met the bin wagon twice (once it chased him down the street, the other time we stood behind as it tipped bins) and he was a champ at ignoring it. He was bin proofed after a previous ride where he was silly with bins - that time I took him home and taught him to drag one down the road with us, while I was till on top. So, now black bin proof. Sadly, yesterday was recycling day, the blue bins were OK, the recycling boxes on top not so much. He was 'good' in that he passed them all OK, but was clearly perturbed, so we came home and did box training! Good baby horse!

Today is farrier day, will give him a steady day today as well. The weekend - well the past few weekends I could have had the pick of a stack of things to do, this weekend there is nothing special that he is ready for. He is lovely but a slow learner, but once he has learned something, he has been solid. So I am being carefiul.

Monday is our first farm ride, locally. Hadn't realised it was a Bank Holiday when I booked it, so it will be a bit busier than I expected. Ooops.

Next weekend I am at Somerford. Very exciting!!! Hey, @ycbm, maybe we could meet up?

I had a burst of energy and feeling well and cleaned the trailer, now my limbs are juddering again so I don’t think I’ll be riding Bog today but I’m banking on being well enough by tomorrow to event. So he won’t have been ridden since his last event a week ago.

God help us in the dressage if we do go.

Yay!! We had great fun at our 70cm grids clinic. Alw was thoroughly enjoying pinging away and we finished a bit early having done a decent course with spreads and fillers. She was puffing at the end of it though so I might ask the vet to discuss how we can get the anti-allergy support a bit better. It's a high pollen count day and no snot or cough but resp rate at the end of the session was a higher than I would like to see. Having said that, she was full of beans and giving everything plenty of air and in a good rhythm without running out of energy so I am pretty delighted. Onward and upwards. :)

*rant incoming*

Currently sat tearing my hair out over show entries.

Was supposed to be taking two to our local show centre this weekend but when I went to email them to withdraw Blue I noticed that Raz’s class was no longer showing on the schedule despite my entry having been accepted more than a month ago.

No reply until yesterday, when I got a refund notification via HorseMonkey. Thankfully I managed to get a (very) late entry at another venue for tomorrow, but Blue was still showing as being entered when I checked to make sure he’d been withdrawn. ?

And breathe… ?

On a slightly more positive note, I finally have answers as to why Blue has been so difficult under saddle recently and also had a mini Aha! Moment with the 4yo today so I’m hoping that’s my run of bad luck over for a bit ??

Hope everyone has a good weekend ?

Having hacked Mr D on Wednesday, we schooled on Thursday and I hacked him out again today in the sunshine with owners daughter on her youngster, he'd just done a novice, second after the Dressage, rolled a pole in the sj but a good clear in the time xc. He's really amusing as despite doing some big boy stuff he's still such a playful baby but today he was a sensible hacking companion! I'm just doing more of the same next week but stepping up the canter work and just aiming to get more quality when we school, it's all about the detail. I must get a vid to post as I feel straighter, stronger and just so much more confident. Have a happy Easter and enjoy your ponies!

Charlie found his intervals a bit hard work today. We did 4 sets of 3 minutes and he was about done by the end. He's stronger and better balanced now, I can keep my half seat a lot more rather than needing to sit up and hold him as much. Eland might be a run out rather than competitive, he's fit enough for the day but it's a hilly course so I expect we'll have time faults.
Bon meanwhile demolished 20ft of fencing and 2 (quite rotten) posts. We're not quite sure how he got stuck, it is sheep netting but even so he clearly doesn't do things by halves ?. He is now a bit wary of fencing, sound with a single cut and a graze on one leg (miraculously).
He was however a super boy hacking last night, he is brave for all the buses now, had a slight wobble about a chap on the floor fixing a car (but was fine with the one on his knees digging the garden) and coped admirably with the ice cream van that came past playing his music close enough that I could have helped myself to a cone ? honestly it was a shame neither of us had a hat cam.
Little bit of easy stretching tomorrow for Charlie ready for Monday.

I am having a great weekend. Took Stormy to King's Forest for the first time today. It was her first time going out since June apart from vet visits. She's never been out to the forest or ridden outside of an arena away from home and is an ex racer.
She was ace, a bit hot to get on but so chilled once we were out. Even when we got over taken by an Endurance rider from the Team GB squad. Her cobby friend got excited but Stormy was not bothered.
After an hour and a half she was as fresh as she was at the start which was great considering her long rehab from KS, PSD and SI issues.
I feel this is just the start now. She also loaded like a dream which has not always been the case.
I now have a nice young horse that I can take away from home by myself and have a lovely time. That's a win for me.
I made a silly video to mark the occasion too ?

Lovely to see all the sunny pics and read all the fun plans! I hope those of you who are under the weather recover soon (please be careful Michen!).

I did a quick schooling session on Chilli yesterday then headed over the hill to the Lambourn open day. It was good fun and lovely to see horses at Seven Barrows looking very relaxed and happy to have cuddles! I wasn’t sure if a stable visit would be interesting (horses in stables - we see them all the time…) so just did the one yard but I’m keen to do a few smaller yards next year.

Boxing to a cake and coffee hack today then some more short schooling sessions, I’m hoping to bore Chilli into good behaviour in the school ?

Cracking lesson today - same horse as last week but found his fifth gear and just played for an hour. Went like an utter dream*, accidentally rode a change, (bloody schoolmasters ?), and the best he’s ever gone for me. Considering that’s the second time I’ve ridden since December I’m SO chuffed. ?

It’s a pity the weekend lesson availability is so poor (and not from being booked, simply very limited provision, not entirely sure why…) as the horses and coaching are worth the trip, and there’s nowhere closer that rivals.

*bar a completely unnecessary spook at a small child ??

I'll update bons own thread, but he went the best he's ever gone today in our field. My yard owner had her first sit on him (loved him) and Charlie's owners 11 year old daughter had a play in the arena with him, walk trot and canter both ways, super cautious from both of them, but she's not a subtle rider and used to a 14hh plod of a cob. Couldn't be prouder of the pair of them ?
Charlie did a bit of schooling - no stirrups cos I've lent them out I've got to nail sitting somehow ? - some shoulder in, travers, messy half pass both ways in a slightly uneven grass arena. Super pleased with him too.
And I got a sit on my yard owners B stallion who's a little pocket rocket and a half ??? all the pony fun today

Had our last session at the cold water spa this morning, legs are consistently feeling goooood and horse is becoming more and more thuggish by the day, so we are going to try him on Monday - will get on board in arena first to ensure no stupid behaviour, then a short hack.

Last time I rode (or tried to) I lunged first, but he went absolutely nuts so I think it’s a case of neck strap, BP and sit up ? he’s usually a gent so I think he will be OK.

Had a very pleasant day fence judging at EI, a gorgeous (chilly) afternoon down by the seaside, with my little assistant:

He went on strike though after a while

It’s started well anyway. Finn has been on the back burner a bit whilst I’ve been getting to know Bertie, but having had 2 not so great xc outings on the Tigger like Bertie, have to confess, it was a nice change to get out on Ole Reliable Finnegan. He’s like your favourite pair of slippers, but in a good way!

He came off the box happy, relaxed and interested in what was going on. Push button warm up. We jumped the whole course, practised the start box and first few jumps (useful as he did wobble off the line between 2 and 3), and ended with a few sj. He was moving really well, popped everything easily (they are v small!) and felt great. He does sometimes ‘prop’ a bit just before the fence but he took lots of them on a more forward stride this time. Weather was glorious and there was a nice atmosphere around the course (inc TFF who was also on course at the same time ?).

I was fine doing the xc but as soon as we went into the sj my stomach gave a big lurch, but he jumped them lovely (having opened up on the xc). Needed to do it though as I haven’t jumped him for months.

Hoping I’ve not overdone it cos we’ve got a xc lesson on Monday too, eek. And my back is complaining already after yesterday ?

After our lovely long hack yesterday, I dragged some SJ out into the school and had a play. Only teeny tiny, but it was a huge improvement on last time. My arena is only 30X30, and now we can do a little course, changing rein in the middle over a fence.

He was also ace on a little ride out afterwards!
