I listed a running martingale (new just tried on horse) bought for £45 at HOYS and a saddle cloth bought at HOYS, but it's still in bag with tags, £15 from HOYS.
A woman bid on both items, won them, I posted them , she received them and promptly open a case against me stating the martingale is not as described and saddle cloth has stitching that's uneven, saddle cloth was only cheep, she won it for £5 and martingale she said the rings had signs of tarnish on them and punched holes in martingale were unevenly spaced , she won that for £19. So she had £60 worth of new tack for £24 And £3 post. She is willing to have a refund of £ 10 !!!! So she said... Well I never saw anything wrong when I bought them, they just don't suit or fit my horse, I am sure the saddle cloth don't have bad stitching, but you get what you pay for it was only £15 new. I can't say I examined it with a magnifying glass! I asked for them to be sent back, and I will refund, thats when she said she would take a part refund, but i said no send them back, now eBay said she can keep them and I must just accept the decision, my funds are frozen anyway, I can't acces it, and she will leave bad feedback, I have been told to refund her by eBay, this is week 3 of arguing with eBay, I am thinking its just not worth the hassle .. Any one else had this sort of thing, I feel I am going to have to refund in full and just accept I have been done over by her and eBay, they really don't seem to help sellers, just buyers.

Keep fighting it - each time just email back and refuse to give the refund. I have done this and it works - ebay rely on you not being bothered to fight any more. They are very biased in favour of the buyer. You have every right to offer a full refund and take the goods back.

My friend had an issue with a rug she sold - same thing happened to her! The buyer said that the rug was damaged etc but it wasn't. The buyer also wanted £10 refund. Wonder if it's the same person? My friend opened a case against the buyer after she paid her £5.

I don't sell on eBay any more after we had similar problems with a watch sale. The watch was brand new, never worn, buyer got it at auction for a bargain price. When it arrived they said it was filthy dirty, scratched and clearly worn. They refused to either provide photos or return the watch for a refund and pushed and pushed for a partial refund (almost 50% of the sale price). I just kept refusing. This is the latest set of scammer buyers on eBay. They want the item and your money. Keep fighting it as I did and in the end they kept the watch and I kept all my money. Never again though!

If there were pictures of the items then I can't see how she can say things like that. Keep fighting just say you will take the items back and refund her the money and postage. Even if you have to pay for the postage for her to send them back you'll still be better off than her keeping them. Then relist them and add extra pics, I've been having a clear out selling on ebay and make sure I put up close pics of everything to be safe.

Yes she wanted a £10 refund so she would only have paid £14 for goods won at £24 , which I paid £60 for at HOYS... I am sure there is nothing wrong with them. Now after 3 wk arguments eBay said refund her and she can keep them,,,!!! No I want them back then I will full refund her. She won't send back, cos I know there is nothing wrong with both items, she wants her cake and eat it in other words! I have sent a message saying I want the goods back. eBay are the ones who are saying let her keep and refund also!!! I really can't believe it, I will be sticking to horsey car boots from now..

I had a problem with a saddle, buyer said the tree was broken and ebay seemed to automatically find in favour of the buyer, despite evidence. I had it back, had my saddler open it and evidence with a report and photographs that the tree was perfectly sound, and kicked up a fuss with ebay, including their UK CEO. They refunded me in full after several exchanges of messages. This is a useful list of CEOs and contact details http://www.ceoemail.com/

Go get 'em!!!

Yes the only way to beat this current scam is to refuse to pay the partial refund & sit out the suspension on your account.

My friend had this partial refund scam pulled on her with a saddle. Measured by saddler at 17.5 ". Listing clearly showed a tape measure correctly measuring the seat at 17.5".
Sold saddle for £450. Buyer then went for a partial refund of £200 claiming that the saddle was 18" & therefore not as described. Refused to return for full refund as it fitted her other horse. eBay found in the buyers favour (as they always do!)
Friend actually contacted the buyer & told her if she did manage to get the partial refund, friend would open a small claim against her to attempt to get the money back. Friend listed all the evidence that she had that the saddle was as listed & not 18" also she had a saddler valuation that the saddle was worth £550 so even if the saddle WAS 18" the buyer was trying to drastically underpay her.
TBH I don't know if this is correct but the seller dropped her case & kept the saddle!

It might be worth taking this to the eBay message boards as they have lots of advice.

Ironically I actually have a case for a partial refund. I bought some clippers listed as used but in perfect condition. Although they work fine the blades had a snapped piece internally which means they didn't cut hair!
I just shrugged it off as one of those things & as I got the clippers for a good price just bought a set if new blades.

I feel your pain, I had one customer on ebay who bought a pair of new loveson boots off me at less than trade price as I was clearing stock.I gave ALL measurements as is in my advert on my website so leaving nothing to chance after 4 weeks she emailed me to say they didn't fit and she thought I had put the wrong boots in the box, NO, I check them all before they go out.I then had a ebay dispute on my hands as she wanted her money back, I was more than happy to do so if she returned them at her expense and saw no need to get ebay involved as I wasn't being awkward at all.Ebay/paypal froze the funds in my account so I could not access all of my own money only some, 21 days later and she still hadn't sent them back or responded to my inquiring emails and I heard no more, paypal eventually gave me back the money but it mucked me up big time. It's all stacked in their favour and in the favour of the person who buys, hope you get your money, Oz

I smell a scam!

In fact, I was so concerned about this recently that when I sold some stuff on ebay, I put in the ad that I wouldn't accept partial refunds, and would video myself packing the item 'to avoid confusion'. And I did! I got a full video of each item in HD on my phone so I could prove there was nothing wrong.

Lots of honest buyers and quite a few scammers out there, it seems that tack is one of the big scams now.

Ebays horrendous now. Tell her to return the goods. And if she asks for refund of Postage tell her no, unless you have a registered business account you don't have to refund P&p
The partial refund is a ridiculous scam that seems very popular. If you sell again make sure your terms state no partial refund, this hopefully puts a lot of idiots off buying your stuff. The fees are horrendous now too, they even take a % of your P&P! How can that be right?
Facebook groups are becoming more popular for small sellers. Only big business can cope with Ebays robbery now, and they struggle I think.

Ditto! I also sell my stuff mainly via FB now, with the cuts that EBay take, the 3 strikes for non payers before they boot them off (grrrr! We had a person win our lorry and not pay!!!) and being unable to leave bad buyer feedback I've been put off.

Ebay is FULL of scammers - it's not an easy place to sell or buy anymore.

I've just bought some jods - sounded great, but they are only any good if you are seven foot tall.

My advice is to hang in there and fight. Do you have the selling pics ?

Yep, had this too. Sold three rugs in a good used condition that no longer fitted. Got really good feedback from two buyers who were delighted and the other 1 of the buyers reported me a day after the advert ended claiming she hadn't received the item! Smelt a rat right away given she hadn't even had time to let it come in the post. eBay took her side even though I had receipts , just no tracking numbers. She got her money back and probably the dam rug as well which was a good make! Wouldn't sell with eBay at all now. I refused to give them the money they automatically refunded so I got suspended.... Even though I had about 8 years feedback with 100%!

Definitely dont issue a partial refund. If the case has been running for 3 weeks Im not sure how Ebay have told you what the conclusion of the case is yet? Just stick to your guns, provide evidence that she is talking rubbish by uploading pics into case file of the items when you listed them and also receipts if you still have them. Offer her a full refund if she returns the items and if she declines that then just leave the case open for ebay to deal with.If you stick at it and provide evidence there is every chance they will decide in your favour. This worked for me recently, good luck.

I like the idea of the 'partial refund' clause.
Something like
'I am an honest seller. I endeavour to describe clearly. If however I have missed something & you feel this item is not as described I will happily offer a full refund on return of the item. I will not ever give partial refunds'

This has happened to me before! Not with horsey stuff but with a worn once in immaculate condition TopShop dress - Bought for £40 sold for £15...

Buyer messaged me to say that the stitching had become undone and it would cost £7.50 to get stitched up.... Which I know is nonsense as it was in mint condition. I did refund the money... Just because I didn't want to deal with all the agro for £7.50! But still annoying!

All other experiences have been positive...

eBay have offered three options to me, don't know what they have offered her
Option one... She return goods, I do full refund, this is what I want done...

Option two... Part refund £10 at Byers request( claims goods not as described)
I don't want this, would rather have them back and keep or give away to a horsey mate.

Option three.. She makes so much fuss. She keeps goods and to keep my feedback at 100%. I am forced to allow this and refund the £24 purchase price.
I can see it going opt three way, as its wearing me down.

I can do without this , I am looking after step father recovering from hip replacement, and have my aunty in hospital waiting to have lower leg pinned after being knocked over by a 10 stone dog!! ( not her dog either)
I have sent another message to both eBay and Byer stating I want them returned and I will pay the £2.60 for return postage. Trouble is she takes days to respond!!! She is just dragging it out till I give in. I am done with eBay now.. I am sorry to hear others have had similar incidents, but when things get so stressful it's sometimes easier to give in and be done with it.. Will give it another week..
My eBay account is frozen at the moment, thank goodness there is only £40 in it. eBay have not refunded her yet, but I understand they can do so and I have no say so in matter.

I agree that Ebay is full of shysters now. They know that Ebay always side with the buyer so will try it on.I used to sell loads of stuff on there but haven't bothered for the past year,I use Preloved and FB now instead.

Interesting I have had similar. I did manage to stick it out and never received items back , kept the money .
There was a similar post not so long ago about a saddle , possibly the broken tree one. I think it has gone too far in favour of the buyer at all costs. I bought a saddle that was supposed to be in good used condition . It was knackered, it had gone so far through the synthetic covering that the material was showing. The seller disagreed and offered a partial refund but I didnt want it so sent it back and had a full refund , cost me the postage so I wasnt too pleased but nothing else I could do. They sold it several more times

I would be tempted to phone eBay and tell them you believe this to be a scam. You may be able to get your point across better than in text.

This happened to me but it was with a breyer horse. I sent it off recorded delivery just before I went on holiday to mexico. Half way through my holiday she sends me a load of abusive messages saying I had forgotten to send the item. I told her I had definitely sent it and had a receipt to prove it. The abusive messages continued. I asked her to at least wait until I got back from holiday as I was powerless to do anything. Well she whined to paypal and they took the money out of my account without hearing my side of the story. The event pretty much ruined my holiday and I spent most of the day crying and panicking as I desperately needed the money. I ended up spending most of my holiday fighting with paypal to get my money back (who actually charged me to receive a payment in the first place and then charged me to refund her! This meant I was actually in debt), they argued that a proof of postage receipt was not enough and they only refunded me after I threatened to take them to the small claims court. The woman got the horse and her money and I almost got nothing, she really was scum of the earth.

I have given up selling on fb and preloved now as it is just full of scammers and non payers. If I don't have a use for anything anymore I just bin it or swap it with a friend
