I think it's a wise decision and wondered if it might be the case before the announced it. He's no chance of being anywhere near placed, so might as well rest the mare, and call it a day.
Is it just me or is this discussion about selection a bit 'interesting'? 'god given right...' I don't know anything about SJ politics but that just sounded a bit strained!
Not in contention and had 4 down, save the horse for another day rather than risking it's confidence. He knows his horse so it could do her more harm than good to do a big track if she is not on form today. Takes mins to damage a SJ and months to fix...
Bottom line is that it really does not matter what team we select the best horses are being sold from under our riders and there is a lack of investment in the sport. Look at the Norwegians...that is what investment can achieve, they are moving into the sport from nowhere at all, we leave our riders to struggle too much on their own IMHO.
We just have to hope that whilst a fair few of the horses are a bit green now they will be ready for 2012 and not be sold on in the meantime...
