A happy post :)

Some of you know that just before Christmas I rescued a 9 month old great dane bitch called Evie. She was underweight and very very nervous.
Well she is now a different dog! She has gained some weight (still under weight but much better!), she is 100% better around people! She still gets nervous around new people, especially men, but with a bit of patience she comes around pretty quickly and loves a cuddle. She was amazing over Christmas, I took her with me to my family home, to the local pub, out for a big walk on the beach with loads of other dogs, she has changed for the better and seems a very happy girl! She is best friends with my little terrier cross, she walks perfectly on the lead, always comes back when called, she is just a wonderful dog to have around! Her personality has really come out in recent weeks, she is very much a diva! Refuses to go out in the rain, won't get dirty in the mud, if she gets tired she just refuses to move, and when she gets pissed off with little terrier jumping on her she just sits on him!
She has a very sensitive stomach and I'm finding it hard to get a bit more weight on her, the only thing that seems to suit her is Butchers tripe, pilchards and a basic working terrier mix.
Not sure if the link will work but here is a photo from Xmas ;

Oh how lovely and what a super girl.

This post could have mirror imaged the story of my rescued bullmastiff girl. The sensitive stomach was resolved by JWB and good quality food but it took a while for her system to get used to the possibly richer food. She was originally disinterested in food because I imagine it was such crap but now she's at the counter waiting for it :D

Keep up the good work, I was gonna say she looks a little star but of course not quite so little :D

Aww sounds very similar, when I first started feeding her she just pooped it all back out! Obviously not used to decent food in her system! She seems to be doing well now though, just a bit more weight to gain :)

She is stunning! more pics please :) I love great danes and would have one in a flash if i could; not enough room though. Used to look after one at weekends and he was so soppy. I am very very jealous of you!! Well done though she looks in such beautiful condition :D

Try here on Dr johns silver, my MIL has a whippet and he has a sensitive tummy used to go for number 2s about 7 times a day and never put weight on he looked poor when they first got him.

Ive always had my dogs on the above and when he came to our house he would go to my dogs food.

He is now on it full time and goes twice a day and has now got a bit of weight on him ( ie no back bone showing still skinny but he is a whippet :) :)

Thank you all :) She really is a star and I'm so glad I found her! Only worry is that I'm now addicted to the great dane rescue website (Dane Line) and wish I could have them all!!
KatieLou - Love the new sig photos!!

Welcome to the world of Dane ownership! haha.....all of our bitches were complete divas.....

As for the sensitive stomachs, my mum always fed on tripe (real tripe) and a winalot type mix and then added certain vits etc. Just be careful of bloat with danes (but you probably know that). Wasn't a problem with them 20 years ago but the introduction of complete dried food has a lot to answer for I think....she's gorge!
