She's a mature dog familiar with her home so I'd give it a go with paper or pads down for her. She'll tell you if she's not happy. It's not ideal but probably better than most of her former life.
I am less worried about her peeing than her being lonely but i am at home now and she is snoring away on her bed, if i was to go out all night, i bet she wouldn't even notice.
It's more the case of me missing her than the opposite, i think !
Nouiille's breeder in Lyon France, Nadine Vallez is giving up, she wasn't able to breed for the last two years.
She has financial troubles and has to sell most of her bitches.
The older one from 6 years old will go for a donation, the younger one will go for a low price, the place is more important than money.
I think that she likes her dogs but has been having financial troubles for a long time.
Nouille's daughter Ratatouille ( bicolor) is going too, she is 4 years old, i need to resist as my flat is small and i am very busy but i really
hope that she finds a nice family for her.
Beautiful dog
I'm sure she'll find a good home. Bassets are getting more common in my area but I get the impression they are quite "specialist" in their needs. Nouille has been so lucky to find you.
I have had Nouille for 10 months now, we kind of got a understanding between us and it seems to work.
However, i wonder if i am doing the right thing with her.
She has an extremely strong hunting instinct, hate cats and love following scents.
I had a Basset from the Blue Cross years ago but he wasn't interested in hunting and loved our cats, so that's new to me,
i follow a Basset group and most of them are just sleeping all day on the sofa being overweight tbh.
So basically, i spend hours in the forest following her on a long lead ( 10m) and let her go the way she wants, of course,
not on roads, crops or other fobidden places, like bushes ect.
She trots and canter off, i run behind and after a while, i make her stop, sit down, give her water and a few treats and
don't let her go on again till i say so. After a while, she relax and lie down, calming down.
Then, we are off again.
When i want to go home, i make her stop again, let her calm down, offer her water and treats then she has to follow me in the direction that i want.
Most of the time, she sits there, looking in the opposite direction, i say No calmly and just wait for a bit with my back away from her, once she understand that
i am in charge and that i won't give up, she comes slowly and sulk for a bit...
However she soon forgets about it and starts going forwards again trying to find another scent to follow, this time in the right direction.
I feel that she loves it and that it makes her happy, i also enjoy it tbh.
I could simply avoid the forest and all the excitement, trying to go where i won't meet any cats but i feel that she would be bored...
At night, she sleeps happily and seems content, tired most of the time but a good kind of tired.
My friend think that i am a bit mad to run behind her, she herself follow the track but i would find it so boring...
It's hard to do the right thing, i broke my foot and was with crutches for 3 months, so we just walked quietly on the road, i felt bored out of my mind and
Nouille looked miserable tbh.
I think you are giving her a lovely fulfilling life . I see overweight bassets walking round town sometimes and they never look particularly thrilled with life .
The good thing about all that running around in the forest is that i stay fit too !
This morning, a big deer jumped right in front of us ! Usually, you see a few of them together, maybe it was a male on his own ?
Nouille went in zig zag behind him , barking loudly but he was way too fast, very elegant too !
She will be 8 years old in January, so i guess, it's now that we have to have fun too, later on, we might have to slow down and join the overweight Bassets gang wadling sulkily down the street !
I work nights with drugs addicts, so running around the place with her, help to clear my mind after a complicated night...
It's very sad, at the moment, we have a 40 years old woman with two smalls kids, i really hope that she can make it, the kids are just wonderful.
