Exciting Weekend Plans!

We seem to have abandoned all competitive notions at the minute, and I'm right into getting Skye going common riding - which is like Scottish Summer hunting, without the hunting, with other traditional roots. She managed to behave on the last one, so we're off out again to one of the last in the season tomorrow, which is a step up challenge wise for her - she will really need to keep her cool on this one.

Wish us luck, petrified I fall off!

Well you see its acutally 3 horses as I still have my retired Andalusian too
But then up until last September I had 3 as I had two retired ones plus Daisy.
But 2 in work is more expensive and more time consuming than 2 retired...
This justification is not working when made at home ;)

Well, it was bad news from the physio about Blue, so all future plans for anything but hacking are on hold. 1/10 lame on off hind, 2/10 on near hind, after two weeks of bute. Keep on hacking, lay off the schooling, and she'll be going into horsepital for further investigations. Unfortunately, she's so stoic about showing pain that a) it could be a lot worse than it seems, and b) it's going to be difficult to get a reaction. Bugger, bugger, bugger.

Lots of people doing TREC this weekend. I was out riding a route for a TREC I'm tracing for the other day. And wasn't that fun. *drips with sarcasm*

Still, it was better than yesterday when Fergs got a kicking from our hacking buddy and my wheelbarrow was nicked from my field - and, weirdly, one of the six mouldy bales of straw which are targets in my field... why would anyone steal one mouldy straw bale?!

I'm not in the best mood this weekend...
That's horrible, someone taking stuff, whatever it's worth, how bloody unpleasant!
Hope your barrow turns up x

I'd still get them talking, I was happy with my 4 but OH said we should get another as I like having 2 to ride! He's an enabler

Sorry to hear about pinched stuff  and broken ponies :(

I'm out stressaging with my cobs tomorrow. N38 and E44 for the big lad, and just E44 for the little one. it is the first time they have competed against each other, so I'm feeling like a proper "2 horse owner" now 😄

Then jumping the big lad on Sunday. Maybe the little one too, if I'm feeling brave.

I've been off work for a week this week, and have just played ponies all day every day. It has been lovely. Although I got stung by a wasp which got trapped between my thigh and the seat of my saddle on a hack yesterday (no prizes for guessing where!), then by another one on the armpit while I was bathing the little cob this afternoon. Very sore! I also found a tick on my big cob, which I have never seen before. Thinking it was a grass wart or skin tag, I gave it a wee twist and pull and the whole beastie came off. Still alive and wriggling. Gross.

It's just baffling. The mouldy straw bale is quite funny (although perplexing!). The wheelbarrow / shavings fork is annoying, but also bizarre - the fork was all bent and I'd been meaning to replace it anyway but they left the rugs (a PE one amongst others) and my straw fork which was sticking out of the muck heap right next to the barrow. Just weird.

More importantly, Fergs is fine after being kicked yesterday, and it looks like it's healing well. Fortunately his showing days are over, as it will probably scar, but hey ho... And then Skye was a knob to hack, really upset about life around one particular spot - probably the guy we saw earlier was setting a trail for one of the hunts tomorrow, not that they've let us know they're in the area  People...

Good grief I hope M behaves better in his pammy lesson than he did tonight.

He just could not be arsed! Too much grass in the belly methinks! Will have to start bringing him into the yard during the day. He is quite a bit too fat! He probably says that about me too lol

Which ones have you done? We are on holiday in the Scottish borders at the moment.....

Good luck x

Oh no sorry about Fergs kick accident sorry you will not be able to show him any more but you had fun though?

Bernster, I was hoping to pop over to Wheatlands on Sunday morning for a quiet pop, haven't booked, haven't yet got a chum to meet there.....

I’m away this weekend. Centre Parcs for some faux sporty activity. I’m not v sporty but I do like it here. We’ve got laser tag, tennis and maybe archery booked.

All of which is more fun on a horse y'know ;) I'd love to play laser tag on ponies!

When did I have fun? When my horse was being booted out hacking? I did have fun laughing about the weird straw theft, tbf ;)

Just back from our first BD , I’m absolutely over the moon ! I’d given myself a target of 60% ( want to try and qualify for the BD draught champ) and we got 63 and 64% , and placed 4th and 2nd . Pip really is a total star ⭐️. Oh , and MP you where spot on , I did prefer the longer arena ( once I’d got my head around the extra letters 😂)

Haven’t been on here in a while as have been busy moving house but took Rosie to a clinic yesterday. Hasn’t been ridden in a week after moving, hasn’t jumped in a month after getting kicked and has never jumped on grass. She’d never jumped a triple before and hopped through an 80cm one in a green but relatively straight fashion. And jumped the wall without even looking at it 😍😍8D22FC20-2CA8-45C3-9359-B05DFEA0DF93.jpeg1CC0E45E-6EA7-43ED-88CE-7FAC7C79AD45.jpeg9B2D8707-9528-4B4D-AEEC-CAFDB3FD284E.jpeg

Been off grid for a few days so just catching up after a very wet pony club camp.

Left in torrential (biblical!) rain and arrived to a camping bog. But that was all put into perspective as news came in of the threat to Whaley Bridge where some pony clubbers live and where we all have friends. It looked desperate for a while but the astonishing efforts of the emergency services and the community seem to have seen off the threat for now.

Camp was awesome and the ponies were mega. Pics to follow.

Sounds like lots of people have been out and about: Hope the eventing/ Showjumping goes well A/E, SportstmanB, Reacher, Fuzzy Furry. A skeleton in the coffin is rather a ghoulish touch! But like you say the horses are oblivious.

MP = Pas de Deux sounds great. Hope you can post some video.

Well done Asha - that's brilliant!

AliB what a lovely looking horse! Congratulations. x

Abi90 - lovely pics. Looking good.

Wheels a Pammy lesson sounds brilliant. Terrifying but brilliant.

Pippity so sorry you had bad news about Blue. And JFTD-WS so sorry you've had a rubbish weekend all round. Hope Fergs is ok.

Chippers that sounds like an awesome riding holiday.

Looking forward to the pics AE - I hope all of your friends in whaley bridge are ok and can get back to normal as quickly as possible

Pic fest!! For anyone that knows Eland - they were jumping fences on the 80, 90 and 100cm course. Even little Jenny was jumping some of the metre fences both SJ and XC. Love these ponies.

Dolly

Oops got left behind.

Now for 300 loads of washing an a gallon of coffee. Then I have to ride my own neglected horse!

My exciting plans have happened already but this is a safe place and its sort of a weekend update, so I hope you can forgive me.
Wednesday was a big day for me.

I had a lesson and rode a 1/2 canter pirouette on an exceptional clever reining horse, only my lack of skill and leg power stopped it being a full one :D Its the equivalent of having a lesson on a GP schoolmaster so much fun.
The vet scanned Daisys pastern and pronounced it healing exceptionally well, to the point that once she's had her foal and its been weaned they see no reason we can't resume ridden work! Well baring any more accidents on Daisy's part.
She has got another month on box rest, but now with sessions on the horse walker and then 2 months restricted turn out and then she's can be out with the other mares.

Plus I have put a deposit down on this very pretty 3 year old.

So I will need some help on how to keep 2 horses for the price of 1. Plus how to get hubby happy with the thought of me doing DIY or at least part livery instead of full.
I am excited but very much tinged with apprehension as to how I'm going to manage this. But as I'm keen to keep riding and progressing, I need to do it.

Wow!! How is s/he bred? Are they backed or will you be doing it? So excited for you!

Well done everyone!
We had a slightly disastrous test today- we still managed 2nd on 70.86% though.

Millie felt not quite right this week and I couldn’t put my finger on it. I had noticed my new dressage saddle had been slipping forwards a bit so messed around with girth’s, point straps etc. She just felt as flat as a pancake, and doing things like going crooked, which she never does anymore. So I actually gave her the end of the week off and decided to take her out fresh to see if she felt any different.

So we headed out this morning. Millie seemed fresh and bright in herself. She warmed up ok but still felt weird for Millie. By now I’m starting to worry. Saddle had slipped a little again so sorted it out before the test. We were just doing one prelim test so I decided to carry on and go in but just let her tootle around with no pressure.

Started the test well, then the judge beeped the horn. Turns out she had me down to do the next test by accident, so she thought I’d gone wrong. Anyway, sorted that out, but as I don’t have a caller, it did throw my brain a bit and it took a bit to get me back into it. Anyway, all wasnt too bad until our first canter, when my saddle went absolutely flying up Millie’s neck! God love that little horse- she was swishing her tail like mad and as tight as anything but she tried to carry on. I pulled her up and raised a hand to the judge, who saw what had happened. By now I just wanted out of the arena, but the judge was very encouraging and told me to get off and sort my saddle out and then carry on. So I did. Rest of the test went ok, but the saddle was slipping forwards again and Millie just didn’t feel right- going crooked, locking her jaw against me. I was now starting to realise that it was probably the saddle causing Millie’s problems all along, but she’s too dam polite to tell me!

Got off feeling annoyed and upset for Millie and wanting to burn my new saddle! Messaged the saddle fitter straight away and, in all fairness, they have been fantastic about it and it can be returned no problems.

Was quite surprised to see a score of 70.86%, as the test was so disjointed with all the stopping and starting and Millie didn’t even go half as well as she can do. Some super comments on the sheet and the overall comment was lovely and very encouraging. So the lovely judge actually turned the day around for me as I was feeling really dejected until I read the sheet.

So a positive day came out of a not so great day!

Dressage saddle reccomendations needed please for a very wide welsh part bred. Current one is Kent and Masters cob.

Well I was pleased with Xc schooling session, playing over small jumps and working on pulling him up after jump to reinforce the ‘control’ message. Not wearing kineton as saving it for comps. He was much more accepting on discipline by the end and I was able to string together a few without him tanking off .
He was much better than last year in the working hunter, ie I had control! (Wore the magic kineton- do you get marks deducted this?) Knocked one down in the 75 cm, but went clear in the 85 cm, and judge said my round and show was much better in the 85. (No rosette though, there were a few clear rounds).
Great pics AE and Abi90,well done everyone competing

Bummer about the saddle, scats, but how lovely to have a judge on your side like that when you're having a trying day :)

Milestone day today for us, first solo hack for Darcy. He looked for his friend on the way out of the yard but politely kept putting one foot in front of the other even though he really didn't think it was a good idea to be out on his own :p about half a mile in he did a big nose-blow and relaxed. Super pleased. It's still like riding an ironing board but he's a very sweet ironing board. I hope that getting some hillwork under his belt will combine with the suppleness stuff we're doing in the school and he'll start to feel a bit stronger.

Even took one hand off the wheel to snap a thru the ears pic (never dared do that on salty! hoping he will be a nice hack, I haven't had one since Millie retired).
