Exciting Weekend Plans!

That’s super news MP. I do miss having a sane hacking horse. Millie goes out around our fields and up our lane but I wouldn’t take her on any busier roads as she’s very sharp and spooky when she’s out and it comes from nowhere. It does limit our hacking, unfortunately.
There’s nothing better than being able to potter about and explore new routes on a horse that you can trust.

Popping on very quickly to post this. Will read others' posts later!

Yesterday we went to the beach again, with Chilli behaving pretty much perfectly and enjoying going fast!

Today we had a lesson, Chilli was fabulous as usual! I just love my horse, we may not be world beaters but she is such a trier. No lesson pics, just her looking very cute beforehand:

I had a little jump at home yesterday (and I mean little, they were about 20cm high, I couldn't be bothered to get off and change them :D) but Buzz was nuts! Charging around at 100mph, he doesn't jump like that when he's out!

Well done everyone!

My dressage on Saturday was varied. My big lad was really quiet and not himself. He'd had his flu booster recently, so it might be that, with it being a live vaccine, or he has had some colicky episodes due to a gut imbalance, and we just started a trial without his pre/probiotics, so it might be that. Either way, he wasn't himself. We did the N38 while I was still pondering whether he was just feeling tired or hot, but it was so unlike him that I withdrew from the E44. I was convinced he wasn't feeling great by then.

My little lad, on the other hand, was a speed demon on acid. He was fabulous. Far too speedy in the canter to get good marks, but his trot work felt brilliant. His medium trots have really come on. Plus he thoroughly enjoyed his little self. As a funny coincidence, the transporter that took us used the the lorry which took him to Leahurst a few months ago. They have four in their fleet, and this one was called Albert. We had to take a photo

Yesterday was a day of jump lessons. Albert was first. For the most part with him I've just been doing canter poles into a small cross or a small upright. I'm not that confident jumping this lad, partly because he tends to over jump and partly because in the past he would stop quite a lot. In this lesson, however, we ended up jumping an upright of about 70cm and then a spread which was a bit bigger. I was super pleased. He gave it a ridiculous amount of air and I got a bit left behind, thus was severely reprimanded for letting my pony down 😄

In the afternoon I jumped a short course with the big lad. He was feeling better but still not as forwards as he normally is. Especially since he's been on his turbo feed for a few days. Still, he was nowhere near as flat as the day before and was acting normally otherwise (eating etc). He jumped really well and didn't knock anything down, so I'm really pleased with that. I just need to catch up with my position because I'm so untidy 😄

Which ones have you done? We are on holiday in the Scottish borders at the moment.....

Good luck x

Fiona

Thank you!

Haven't done as much this year, but I've done;
Berwick
Penicuik Tuesday Chase
Penicuik Saturday
Mosspaul
West Linton
Biggar
Galashiels
Jedburgh
Kelso Yetholm
Musselburgh Crusaders Chase
Musselburgh Saturday
Lauder...

... and now just Coldstream Flodden this Thursday and my own Edinburgh left to do!

I survived Lauder JUST - for the first time ever I had a handbrake failure and she found a secret sixth gear on the last downhill stretch. All good fun though.

Fabulous photos everyone!

Had a show yesterday, rode Elementary 3 again (2nd level). It was not amazing. Odin was not amazing. And I was definitely not amazing. The warmup felt pretty good. But in the test, after the medium canter, he just tanked me around. Obedient transitions in the sense that they happened smoothly and where they were supposed to, but HEAVY HEAVY on my hands and overbent and scrunchy-necked. And I just hate every photo and my results and my life choices.

(Just bear with me, I promise I will be more positive in a few days but right now I am demoralised.)

Ironically, we're getting really good scores for our halts, which used to be our worst. Imagine the scores if he didn't treat the salute as the ideal moment to sight-see :p

Those photos are so cool! Those rides look amazing. I wish I lived in the area. I'd love to do something like that.

I have had a very horsey weekend. I was at Gatcombe Park Friday - Sunday but took today as AL so this still counts as my weekend right :p
Today I took my 5yo for a ride around Badminton on our own for 2 hours. She hadn't been ridden for a while because her saddle didn't fit so I thought the best course of action would be to take her out on open fields on our own obviously .

She was an absolute angel. I know this isn't such a massive achievement to other people - hooray you went on a hack - but a year ago to the date she was in hospital having an MRI while I was sobbing my heart out in the next room being told by a specialist lameness vet that my horse, who was only 4 and just been backed, had at best a 30-40% chance of ever becoming sound again. If only I had known back then that we'd be where we are today...

^^ Me getting caught taking 55,000 identical pictures of my horse again

You could pick a week and come up- plenty yards hire horses, and accommodation is reasonable. Rides vary from glorified hacks right through to absolutely going hell for leather across the best country, up in the hills.

There are ‘holiday operators’ that can organise it all for you, but easy enough to do on your own.

The history of each town is pretty spectacular too.

Wow Jenni, that's a lot of rides 😱

We were in Kelso last week on holiday....

Fiona
Kelso is one of my favourites to visit. Their rides are some of the best, and their civic ball goes from 9pm- 5am so they also know how to throw a party!

Going to be sad going back to dressage for the winter...

I was super excited for my first event with my lovely boy, and first day off from scoring / organising this season
He did a lovely test for a 28, let down by the walk which was like a funeral procession but I didn't know how much I could kick him on without getting a jog (definitely could have kicked more!).
Jumped the clear round of dreams around a track which was causing issues all day. Don't think I'll get a round like it again, it was just amazing.
Didn't run cross country as was concerned about a little bit of swelling behind knee / top of cannon bone (suspensory? :() so taking him for a scan tomorrow
But we were leading when I withdrew!
Positives- he behaved like an absolute angel the whole day (and throughout the preparations, I do everything solo so this makes a massive difference)
Negatives- Please don't let him be broken before we've even properly started...

Well done for the dressage and SJ - I hope the scan doesn't show anything serious.

I've been away for what feels like forever!!(a week) celebrating my 21st :D
Had a birthday Jump lesson yesterday and Rocky was fab, was good to jump a decent up to height 90+ course to get us in the mood for camp!
I'm glad hes not looking too chunky as he had pretty much a week of munching away all day every day and weight is a constant battle with him.

We leave for Eland Lodge camp tomorrow so I can get him settled and have a chilled night before camp starts after our 4hr drive.
We have never done a camp before and it'll be Rocky's first ever sleep over so it's all super exciting :D:D

Can't wait to report back with a million photos haha!!

Lovely to see lots of pictures and news from the weekend :)

Haven’t been on here in a while as have been busy moving house but took Rosie to a clinic yesterday. Hasn’t been ridden in a week after moving, hasn’t jumped in a month after getting kicked and has never jumped on grass. She’d never jumped a triple before and hopped through an 80cm one in a green but relatively straight fashion. And jumped the wall without even looking at it 😍😍View attachment 35106View attachment 35107View attachment 35108

I think i've got your horses double! Even down to the bridle😂 Picture shared with permission from a clinic a few weeks ago - starting to look a bit smart and put together (horse, not the rider! Nobody told me there'd be a photographer!!!)

Ooohhh no.....

Fingers crossed for tomorrow, that its something minor like a boot rub causing the swelling x x

Goodness yes! Spooky!

Adding it on here because i'm pleased but it's not worth it's own thread...lunged Buzz yesterday and managed to get him to do walk to canter only using my voice! This is a big improvement, I taught him to do walk to canter whilst ridden and i'm so pleased he's picked up on those cues to be able to do it on the ground to. He's been a bit of a work in progress over the last two and a bit years, and i'm not particularly good at schooling so I'm pleased :)

Love it when you get a breakthrough - that's great chippers
