Quick update… F is well, no EFWS at all. He has had a slightly mucky bum a couple of times, caused by the crazy grass growth this summer, but it certainly wasn’t excess water! He is still on hay, Fast Fibre, Salt and NAF In the Pink Senior.
Great news- glad he is feeling better (and you don’t have a mucky grey bum and tail to deal with!)

My mare had this for a couple of years ..it was absolutely soul destroying , worse in the winter and I was forever washing her back legs and tail .. turns out she cannot have any haylage whatsoever and the condition continued for a further 6 months on soaked hay

I tried Protexin and it helped a bit … she is still on it just to be on the safe side

A couple of years later we had a very persistent skin allergy that was treated with oral steroids

This took 2 years to clear up

I retired her last year and she now has soaked hay , dry hay, clear skin and perfect droppings

Looks pretty sound too !!!!!

I would avoid haylage at all costs .. even the dry stuff

Good luck
