Fancy new products don’t always work!!

Funnily enough for you cynics, Forageplus Top Line Plus (a mix of pea and potato protein) does just what it says on the bag for my two older PPID ladies 🙂.

It was recommended to me by a vet who had seen it work very well on some of her client's horses. I noticed the difference when, to economise, I stopped feeding it to them during the summer months - they soon went back on it.

The younger mare doesn't need it and doesn't get it.

I can see the use of high protein feed for building muscle, but it will only help as long as they're doing enough exercise to build up the muscle- just as with humans, if they have extra protein in their diet and take reasonable exercise, the protein will be used for building muscle, if they don't exercise it will get used for energy/fat.

....and fat horses tend to be cresty, so job done (:);))

Have you ever used a haas schimmel brush - i was a total sceptic but its a marvel (cleans all colours though not just greys)

Definitely worth trying. I bought one as was feeling frivolous one day . Tried it on my grey mare who has never once looked as though she enjoyed being brushed . The difference was immediate. She absolutely loved it ! So now have a few of them .

Well I bought a Haas brush and expected miracles…. So far I’ve been disappointed. No miracles have occurred. It doesn't pick itself up and brush my horse, my horses don’t pick it up and brush each other either and it’s not magicked a minion to clean my horse for me.
Apparently I still have to go to the effort of brushing my own horses 😑

I’m not totally sure why I bought it as my grooming is minimal and I just use my cheap brushes to get the mud off. Both my horses are pretty clean anyway 🙌🏻 so I can’t actually comment if it’s a good or not.

But I bought the one for the bay horse coz one is bay !! 😂

I got given some Haas brushes. I do like them! Though the sheepskin bit in the Diva one has had to be glued back in 3x so far ... I wouldn't keep them for a specific colour, I use them on whatever. The racers do love the Diva for their faces though. Do they do a better job than other, cheaper brushes? Yes the do! They show just how much dirt and crap is in the coat 😂😂😂

Absolutely!
Watching your idols and wanting the same "stuff" as them would be something most people would manage to grow out of by, what- their late teens at the latest ? So that eliminates most people old enough to be on here without lying about their age.
Being susceptible to marketing would have an older cynicism cut off, depending how many riding years you'd managed fine without the product.
By the time you get to my age I'd guess most people are of the "if it aint broke don't fix it" persuasion. I love 😍 new technology but I'd go looking for it to solve a specific problem.
At the far end of the scale, you wouldn't get total luddites in an internet discussion room, presumably.

Would pretty much agree with this with one proviso - there's bits of me that are broken so I am going to have a look at new styles/tech etc to see if it helps my new problems ie stirrups, or is more comfortable for the horse ie bit design, or because modern life has changed ie hi-viz.
Without at least having a squiz at the new stuff you can't decide what's good for your particular needs or not and what is an absolute no-no for you however popular the item is (here's looking at you silicon seated jods!)

I have never understood how people believe this and it works as a marketing method.. as a human there is no one food you can eat that will magically put muscle on your body in exactly the places you want it. So why would horses be any different?
Albeit there is added lysine and it's got higher protein most likely, but if you don't do the correct work it's still just going to make your horse fat!
Exactly like the feed is some sort of anabolic steroid for horses 😂

Just thought this was interesting and want to here your thoughts…
Nowadays most riders are all using the new technology based tack and using gear they are given because they are sponsored but think about it… people promote these new innovative stirrups etc but actually they don’t make you ride any better! They’re there for the ‘look’
Charlotte Dujardin won gold in London 2012 using a pair on normal steel stirrup irons! And it goes for other things too for example these new fancy saddlepads thst cost a fortune! She used a normal white saddlecloth on Valegro at london 2012! He still won!
Just proves we’re all brainwashed into thinking that the new products work and that we all need them. I know I’m sticking to my old school stuff!!
She did use an innovative new Faufax girth. My son bought me one for Christmas that year.

See, sensible people buy black ponies that are permanently sparkly and shiny and rarely need 'a proper groom' let alone special magic brushes! 😁
Nah. Black ponies show mud. You need a dun one.
Anyway my pony was spotless yesterday. I think it was the 2" of rain that did it and managing to bring him in between that and him rolling in the mud.

I never said there is anything wrong 🤣
I’m saying it doesn’t make you ride any better and it’s all just trying to get you to spend money
Apparently there is science behind the theory that if you feel good, then you ride better. I read an article that said, say for example, you bought the Charles Owen Charlotte hat, that with the positive image of Charlotte in your mind, people found their riding improved. Psychology is fascinating.

Its interesting, if im struggling with something I ‘channel ‘ Carl and it defintely helps me ride better!

Rats stole all the fluff off my Diva.

I’ve got a Hass brush I have to keep re-glueing. Sounds the same one as it’s the lovely soft one. Mine were second hand and I do like them.

There is an element of science developing new things, I evitably, so something like the FF/Prolite girth has been surpassed, for many horses/situations. Personally I never liked it much though 😄

Oh, don't know, it hasn't come out of the packaging yet except to get stroked a couple of times. It's all lovely new sheepskin, too nice to use on the horse ;)

It's just a fully lined, edged, sheepskin saddle pad, but split and shaped as Reactor Panel booties. Glad I'm not alone in thinking the price is kind of spectacular though!

More like two actual pads than one, have always been expensive with the best sheepskin there is (expensive in itself) and the complex attachment mechanism of extra flaps, themselves edged and with velcro sewn into them. Would take at least twice the time of making a standard sheepskin lined pad.

It will work on horses which aren't getting enough protein in their diet, horses which have protein absorption problems, and horses where the diet is short on the essential amino acids (ones a horse can't make for itself) to make proteins..

Quite, and for the cynics who insist that no feed can assist top line it does what it says on the bag and it does that very well. It improves the top line without adding unnecessary blubber.

*Sigh: of COURSE the brushes "for greys" get stains off; so do brushes not for greys. That is not "proof" of anything other than your diligent grooming. You have done no research, you've read the advertising blurb. But if you want to believe it, knock yourself out there.
I'm getting a good shine on Old Horse - an expert in getting filthy in both stable and field - with non-specific coat colour brushes that I've had for the best part of thirty years. They were probably expensive at the time - I can't remember - but they're still going strong. I wash them on a regular basis and let them dry naturally.
The Magic Brush - plastic throughout, and cost all of £1 when I bought it - is still my favourite for getting dried mud off The Mud Monster when he's been enjoying himself in his DIY wallow.

You miss the point that it won't do that unless your house was short of protein for some reason and any sources of good protein or the right amino acids will do the same.

It won't magically build top line on a horse which isn't short of protein, just short of the right work
